Curriculum Presentation

What we do

At Northridge, students participate in lots of activities that help further develop the skills and the knowledge needed for when they leave school.

Students are taught:

• Vocational learning• Work experience• Developing independence skills• Health and wellbeing• Functional skills• Accreditation• Life skills

Cup and Cake Cafe

The cup and cake café is a student run enterprise where students learn how to prepare and serve food, greet and communicate with customers and gain experience in a real working environment.

The students learn how to prepare fresh sandwiches, use the barista to make a variety of different coffees and make sure the café is kept clean and tidy.

“2nd Hand Made”

At the 2nd Hand Made shop, the students have a variety of different roles. These include:Making products to sell, shop maintenance, serving customers, wash, clean and sort donations. Students learn a range of different skills including; communication, numeracy and life skills.

“The Unit”

Students work in the unit to support behind the scenes with washing and sorting donations, making gift items for sale in the shop and other jobs as required.

Functional English and Maths.

Students learn functional skills by applying them to every day situations for example shopping.

Students learn to read shopping lists and pay for items.

Manufacturing

Students make cards, candles and pottery to sell in the 2nd Hand Made” shop and on Etsy.

Voluntary work

The students are involved in a range of voluntary projects:

Class Nightingale

Class Nightingale have a variety of work experience placements which include: Theatre stores, Pharmacy, The Gallery Café, Freezer Store and Speech and Language. The students develop their communication skills and independence.

There will be some new additions!

• Catering business• Travel training• Visiting community facilities• Health and Well being will be community based.• Opening and using a bank account (students get tips

from working in the businesses and can bank these regularly)
