Exports to the Other Europe are designating largely to
Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Serbia and
Norway, which accounts for 97% of shipments in 2015.
Interesting is that 2 biggest markets in the segment are
stable or growing, while others are negative.
Troubles in Asia are produced by only one market –
Taiwan (exports there decreased from almost 600k m3
per months of the boards in 2010 to mere 9k in 2015).. At
the same time, other big destinations of the European
producers like S. Korea, Japan and China are showing
positive dynamics.
Decrease in MENA by 90% is coming from 3 core
markets: Libya, Morocco and Israel.
CIS countries used to import from EU around 120k m3
per month in 2010. Now the biggest importers in the past
– Russia and Ukraine decreased their volume from
respectively 70 and 25k m3 per month to 23 and 4k m3.
Key developments of the European particleboard and OSB
export market
| 6
European particleboard exports is in a downtrend. Since 2010 exports outside
the region have been decreasing with remarkable 27% negative CAGR.
The decrease differently impacted European exporters. While some countries, like
Spain, have declined sales outside EU28 in dozens of times, others, e.g.
Romania, Slovakia managed increase of the sales.
The negative trends are covering largely mass exports segments like unworked
or melamine-impregnated paper covered particleboard. At the same time,
exports of OSB panels kept comparably stable with the big decline observed
already in the covered period of 2015.
The same heterogeneous picture appears with consideration of the exports
destination. On the one hand, they declined to all regions, with the largest
absolute drop in the demand for the European products observed in Asia. On the
other, the decrease in the most cases is linked to a couple of regional markets,
which were not substituted with sales to other destinations.
