Keyano College in Fort McMurray Alberta is building the Oilsands Technology & Research Centre, the first phase is the Oilsands Power & Process Engineering Laboratory a $22 million project that will begin in 2012.

$22 million state-of-the-art laboratory and classroom facilities

Will feature a power and H-VAC plant.

Lab will provide steam time for 4th and 3rd class power engineers.

Enables new programming in: instrumentation, fluid mechanics, pneumatics and building operations.

Local Response

Currently Keyano instructs 165 students per year in power engineering and process operations co-op programs.

The new lab will increase our instructional capacity to 468 steam time blocks per year.

Classrooms have direct visibility into the laboratories.

Steam turbine generators, high pressure boilers and turbine steam condensers are aligned as in an actual oils sands facility.
