Hazlina Hamdan is Associate Professor of Town and Regional Planning in the Faculty of Architecture,

Planning & Surveying (FAPS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Puncak Alam

Campus, Selangor, Malaysia. Currently, she is a lecturer in the Centre of Studies for

Town and Regional Planning, FAPS. She is also a teaching staff at the Centre of Post

Graduate Studies, FAPS, Shah Alam teaching Urban Housing for the Masters of

Urban Development and Management programme.

She received her PhD from University Malaya, Malaysia in the year 2010 specialised

in the field of Housing and Planning. After obtaining her BSc. degree in Urban and

Regional Planning from East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, USA in

1986, she pursued her MSc in Urban Planning and graduated from the University of

Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA in 1989.

She has profound teaching in housing, urban planning and development for more than 25 years. In 2015, she was engaged

with the Department of Land Survey, Sarawak to conduct series of courses in Planning Projects. She was appointed as a

teaching staff joining other Faculty members in 2016 to give lecture on the aspects of Housing Policy and Development in

Malaysia for Executive Diploma Certificate of Achievement Project Management Training Programme, UiTM-Sime Darby.

Recently, in May 2017 she was invited as a guest lecturer at College of Human Ecology, Kyung Hee University, Seoul,

South Korea to deliver a lecture on “Housing Development in Malaysia: Issues and Challenges.” Her research interests

include areas of urban development, housing, community and social sciences related research. From the year 2002 till

2016, she has completed 7 research projects (2 projects as Principal Researcher) funded by research grants from UiTM and

the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. Currently she is involved in a research entitled “Modelling Pedestrian Crossing

Behaviour Based on Human Factors” funded by grants from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. She has also been

appointed as panel of reviewer at the university level for research grant proposals funded by the Ministry of Higher

Education since 2014. Amongst her consultancy projects included Local Plan – Housing Sector for Subang Jaya Municipal

Council, Planning Guidelines for the Disabled Group (Federal Department of Town and Country Planning), and Social

Impact Assessment (SIA) for Special Area Plan of Petaling Jaya (Petaling Jaya City Council). Recently, she was one of the

consultant in Housing Master Plan Study of Sarawak State 2016-2030 for the Ministry of Housing, Sarawak.

She has presented papers at international conferences, published refereed articles in international publications and conference proceedings, co-editor/author of a book and co-author of a translation book.

Karim Hadjri Karim Hadjri is a professor in Architecture at the School of Architecture, University of Sheffield, UK. He is an architect with a Master of Philosophy and a Doctor of Philosophy in housing studies completed at the Joint Centre for Urban Design at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK. He has been teaching architecture and urban design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 1993. He has led large academic units and research groups and managed a self-funded research centre at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. Karim's research is concerned with inclusive and sustainable design of the built environment, housing and health. His current research is concerned with the challenges of designing age-friendly environments, as well as enabling environments particularly for people with dementia. He has led and participated in 28 research projects worldwide, secured over £1.5m in competitive research grants, and published 76 outputs. He currently supervises several PhD projects on people-environment studies and sustainable design. He is also a senior member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) validation board, and a fellow of the UK

Higher Education Academy. Karim is currently the principal investigator for the 1 million Euro ODESSA project (Optimising care delivery models to support ageing-in-place: towards autonomy, affordability and financial sustainability) in collaboration with Tsinghua University in Beijing and Universite Dauphine in Paris. The project is concerned with the creation of age-friendly living environments and connected communities to enable ageing-in-place and effective care delivery in the Chinese context.
