Key person “Each child must be assigned a key person. Their role is to help ensure that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs, to help the child become familiar with the setting, offer a settled relationship for the child and build a relationship with their parents.” (Department for Education, P21, 2014). Regularly talk to you to make sure that your child’s needs are being met appropriately. Record your child’s achievements with written observations and photographs. Monitor your child’s development and review your child’s progress at regular intervals with you. Devise, share and agree upon short term goals for your child to work towards. These next steps will be reviewed and changed when necessary. Plan exiting and fun activities that can help your child achieve their planned next steps in learning. Your child’s key worker does not shadow your child the all the time. Other staff will also play and work with your child. Your key person will be happy to arrange a convenient time to talk to you at any time about your child’s learning and development.

“Each child must be assigned a key person. Their role is to help ensure that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs, to help the child become familiar with the setting, offer a settled relationship for the child and build a relationship with their parents.” (Department for Education, P21, 2014).
