Principal’s report Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Your Best

Dear Parents and friends,

Welcome to Week 6 of this term. In this week’s newsletter I wish to focus on our school value of

Respect. Our Principal Awards this week will have this strong focus.

Respect is about valuing people, including people who are different. When you have respect for

someone, you feel positive about them and admire or appreciate their actions or behaviour. You can also treat any-

one with respect regardless of how you feel about them.

It is very important that children understand the importance of respect in all its different forms in all facets of their

life – home, school and the wider community.

This value resonates with me because it would seem to be much easier to talk about respect than it is to action it.

Some people believe they are respectful people and yet show disrespect towards their partner, or on the sporting

field or with people that they see as an easy target.

I highlight this to you as next Monday it is International Women’s Day where we cele-

brate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year, the

theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’, which calls on everyone to call out gender bias, discrim-

ination and stereotyping.

Our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum which is appropriately taught at each grade level

seeks to promote social and emotional skills and positive gender norms in children.

Our Positive Behaviour Matrix shows our students that ‘Respect’ in the learning setting is demonstrated by:

Be helpful

STAR Listeners

Speak kindly to each other

Speak in an inside voice

Listen and follow all instructions

Hands and feet to yourself

Respect others and all equipment

Encourage a conversation with your child/ren around the importance of demonstrating ‘Respect’ and use our Posi-

tive Behaviour Matrix as a basis for your discussion.

Speaking of Respect ……..I wish to acknowledge our wonderful Parent & Friends Club. This team held their Annual

General Meeting on Monday at 2:00pm and I would like to congratulate the following office bearers for the next 12

months.

President: Judith Rainsbury

Vice President: Amanda Hooley

Secretary: Lauren Marron

Treasurer: Nicole Basham

I would encourage any of our parents / carers to think about joining our P&F Club. Their next meeting will be 3rd

May.

Second Hand Uniform sales

Our Parent & Friends Club will be holding a second hand uniform stall at assembly this Friday. Each item will be a

gold coin donation.

EASTER RAFFLE

Our P&F Club are holding their annual Easter raffle. They are asking families to donate an Easter

Egg /item to go into the hampers that will be raffled. The Easter raffle will be drawn on Tuesday 30th March.

Somers Camp:

Yesterday morning we had 5 students leave by bus from the stadium to

head to Somers Camp. This is a fantastic camp which students from a

number of schools attend at the same time. We were only given 5 spots

this year and so like usual we had to go to a ballot system. I’d like to

thank Faye Martin who has done all of the administrative legwork so that

our Kangaroo Flat students could attend.

COVID UPDATE – Department of Education & Training:

The easing of restrictions has been welcomed by all. The main changes or aspects that are relevant to schools are as

follows:

Face masks are recommended, but not mandatory, for use by staff, students and visitors when physical distanc-

ing of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained.

People aged 12 years and over must always carry a face mask.

People aged 12 years and over must wear a face mask when on public transport, school buses and when in taxis or

ride share vehicles – unless they have a lawful exemption.

The room capacities remain and must be adhered to.

Conversation starters for asking “How was your school day?”

It is the end of another school day and parents all over are asking the same question, “So how was your school day?”

And the most likely response is ‘fine’, or ‘good’ or a shoulder shrug. Well at least this is what happens in my house-

hold, particularly with my Year 10 son! This certainly doesn’t tell you much. Here are a few conversation starters that

might at least get a sentence worth of information.

What was the best thing that happened at school today?

Tell me something that made you laugh.

Tell me something that made you happy.

Where is your favourite place at school?

How did you help somebody today?

Reminders for next week……

Public Holiday – please don’t forget that next Monday 8th March is the Labour Day Public

Holiday and therefore no school.

Athletics: Foundation – Grade 2

We will be holding our Foundation – Grade 2 Athletics carnival at school on Wednesday March 10th starting at

9:30am and finishing just prior to the second recess break at 1:15pm. This shortened experience provides an oppor-

tunity for the students to participate without being overwhelmed. Parents and families are most welcome to attend

and support on the morning. You will need to enter via the office and scan / sign in. There will be seating available,

although it might be handy to bring a chair.

COVID GUIDELINES: Please remember that you will need to wear a face mask if you believe that you cannot ade-

quately socially distance yourself from others.

We will be holding an Easter Egg raffle to be drawn on Tuesday 30th March.

All donations can be dropped off at the general office.

We thank your help and support.

LOST: Hunter from Room 7 has lost his black folder of Pokemon cards.

He has looked everywhere for it and is getting quite upset. If anyone has seen these cards could they please send them to the

office as soon as possible. Thank you

Grade 3- 6

The Grade 3-6 Athletics Day will be held next Thursday 11th MARCH. Parents most welcome to attend and watch our

students run, jump and leap their way through the individual and team events. Students can wear their house col-

ours on the day.
