Shri Hasmukhbhai Upadhyaya, born in Gujarat, started social work at the age of 15 years in the fields of student and youth movements. His contributions in the educational, social and political fields are remarkable.He was the leader of the delegation of the Indian Youth Congress at the World Youth and Students Conference held at Helsinki, Finland and also visited USSR, France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Germany, U.K. and Switzerland for the study of youth movements in continental countries in the year 1962. FAREWELL FUNCTION Farewell function was organized on 8 th July, 2011 for Prof. G.K Upadhyaya, who attained superannuation in June. Vice Principal, Dr. G.K. Kalkoti welcomed Prof. Upadhyaya and his wife. Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Ancy Jose spoke about Prof. Upadhyaya and Dr.G.K. Kalkoti reminisced about Prof.Upadhyaya as his regular co-traveller . Prof. Upadhyaya himself spoke in his characteristic philosophical vein commencing with a Sanskrit ‘shloka’. Shri Hasmukh V. Upadhyaya celebrated his 80th

Upadhyaya, born in Gujarat, started social work

Prof.Madhukar Dalvi GANDHIAN STUDIES CENTRE Gandhian Studies Centre conducted Membership Drive from 14th July to 21st July, 2011. The first lecture of Certificate Course was delivered by Dr. Jayshree Joshi on “Relevance of Gandhian Values in daily life”.

Orientation program for NSS students was conducted

on 19th July 2011 which was attended by 120 students.

Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Ancy Jose was the chief guest for the

orientation program. A workshop on Hepatitis was held

on 28th July 2011, which was attended by 95 students.

Ms. Jasmine from Anubhav, NGO was the chief guest

for the workshop. A workshop on malaria was

conducted on 29th July, 2011 which was attended by 97

students. The chief guest for the workshop was Mr.

Ramteke, Community Development Officer. Prof. Vinay Prabhu

Carom, chess and table tennis tournaments for

our students were conducted in gymkhana unit.

MENTOR PROGRAMME

Orientation program was held from 5th to 8th July, 2011 for FY

B.COM/FYBA students. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ancy Jose and Vice

Principal Dr.G.K. Kalkoti addressed the parents and the

students. Mentor meetings were conducted on 9th July, 2011

for FY/SY/TYB.Com and FY/SY/TYBA students. A meeting was

held on 27th July 2011 with the students who were absent for

the mentor meeting

INSIGHT Ms. Rupa Chaubal, Counseling Psychologist,gave a talk

on "Alternative Therapies" on 12th July,2011 by Insight.

Reprocessing, and Q Gong. These are new therapies

practiced by counselors to help clients deal with their

PROF THOMSON THOMAS Attended a workshop on ‘semester based on credit and grading system’ in the subject of mathematics and statistics,organized in Mulund college of Commerce and MCC College in collaboration with University of Mumbai.

NITA DHOTE Attended a workshop on ‘Credit Based Grading System for FYB.com and Self Finance and TYB.com Classes’,at Nagindas Khandwala College.She also attended a workshop on Credit Based Grading System,in the subject, ‘Business Communication’ at Nagrik Shikshan Sanstha’s College of Commerce and Economics, Tardeo .She also attended a workshop in ST.Andrew’s College, Bandra on syllabus Change and Credit system for FYBA in the subject, ‘Communication Skills in English .She attended a Workshop for training of Teachers on ‘Capacity Building on Gender Sensitization Focusing on the girl Child Organized by the Women’s Development Cell, University of Mumbai, at Vidyanagari Campus on July 23, 2011.

The department was privileged to have members

from the media world address third year students on

the “Demands of the Advertising and Journalistic

Fields”. We are proud of Shraddha Sharma, Bharat

Maurya & Amitesh all from the TYBMM for their

efforts in Polaris.NK College was rejuvenated with a

breath of fresh air when our freshers joined us on the

1st of July. The second & third year students were

taken to ALL INDIA RADIO to understand the working

of their industry from within.

DEPT OF MICROBIOLOGY The following activities were held as follows, The Seminar on ‘Unleashing the Power of the Subconscious Mind’ was held on 2nd July 2011, the seminar was attended by 40 students. The Guest Speaker for the Seminar was Dr. K.N. Joishy The orientation program of F.Y.B.SC microbiology was held on 18th July 2011 by guest speaker Dr K.N.JOISHY.

Dept of B.Sc. CS On 30th July 2011 Orientation programme for FY B.Sc. CS (IT/CS) was organised. The guest speakers were Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Ancy Jose & Vice Principal Mona Bhatia. 129 Student had attended the programme.

SOCIAL CELL Social Cell started its third consecutive year with an orientation programme held on 26th July 2011. The Guest Speaker for the orientation program was Ms. Seema Sheikh, Principal of Pradnya Bodhi High School and co-ordinator of various NGOs. She sensitised students about various social problems and made them aware about their responsibilities to society. Social Cell conducted a Friendship Band and Rakhi sale from 3rd to 5th of August 2011. Social Cell got a tremendous response from this drive. An Industrial Visit for the SYBMS was organized to the Reserve Bank Of India on 28th June 2011.They were guided on the features of BANK and on the Indian Economy System. On 18th July 2011, there was an Orientation Programme organized for the FYBMS students.

BAF BBI BFM The activities held were Guest lecture on 6th June’ 11 and 21st June ’11 in college classroom. The guest speakers were Prof. KIRTAN SHAH for the CFP course and Prof .B.T. SUNDARI for guidance on projects. The students attended on 6th June-“360” and on 21st June-“120”. Orientation lectures were held on 18th July, 2011 and 20th June, 2011 in college classroom. The guest speakers were Prof. B.P. NANSI, Prof. B.T.SUNDRI, Prof. POOJA DAV. Prof. GAUTAM PAREKH.Industrial visit was held on 5th July 2011 and 7th July 2011 .The venue was Sundaram notebook and Printing press. 180 students attended.

Career Development Cell

The buzz word on campus in June was "Executive Volunteers" for CDC. After a round of interviews CDC found for itself its "select SY's" drawn from all the departments of the Self Finance section. “You all are truly executive material SYs!” Getit Services, pioneers in Yellow Pages in India visited NK campus in early July.Today we have a dedicated team of 20, interning with Getit Services. Dhruv from SYBMS and Jaee Rayker from FYBMM are Get It Team Leaders. We are proud of them. A workshop was conducted on "the Art and Science of Writing a Resume" for the students. We hope the students have now acquired a life skill.
