Music Notes 3rd and 4th Grade Adventure Concert Field Trip The students in the 3rd and 4th grade music classes will be attending a concert performed by the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic on Tuesday, November 13 at 9:00 am in the Columbus North Auditorium. Before attending the concert, the students will learn about the instrument families of the orchestra, listen to some musical excerpts, and discuss the lives of some of the composers that wrote the music that they will be hearing. Permission slips were sent home in the Gold Folders on October 30 and should be returned to Mrs. Dell by November 9 along with the $5.00 concert and transportation fee.

Veteran’s Day Program Each year the students at Parkside School present a program to honor our Veterans and this year’s program will be on Friday, November 9 at 1:30 pm in the school gym. As part of the program again this year, pictures of Veterans in uniform will be displayed on a large screen during a special song sung by the Parkside Choir. If you would like a family member or friend included in this slide show, please send a picture of them in uniform to Mrs. Dell by November 7. Photos should include the name of student that brought the photo and their classroom so that the photo can be returned after it is scanned. Pictures can also be sent digitally to [email protected]. If you sent a picture for last year’s program, there is no need to send it again this year since it is already included in the slide show. A special invitation form was sent home in the Gold Folders for students to invite a Veteran that

they know to the program. The bottom portion of the form should be returned to Mrs. Dell by

November 7 so that adequate seating can be set up for our special guests and their families.

PE News Roller skating is coming to Parkside! I am very excited about this, and I hope that your child is excited as well! It will be a great way to get some exercise during the cold December days. I have shared this information with your child, but I realize that sometimes that information doesn’t make it back to the parent. We will be skating from November 26-December 21 during PE classes. It will be during your student’s normally scheduled PE time. Here are some details about our skating program: We will be using skates from Skatetime. These are guaranteed safe for our gym floor. Unfortunately, we can’t let kids bring skates in from home because they may be safe for our gym floor, or they may not be. The company provides wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads. Students are welcome to bring in a bike helmet to use when skating. If your student doesn’t know how to skate or has never been skating, this is a great opportunity for them to learn. For the first day, there will be SkateTime Skate experts to teach the kids how to start, how to stop (without crashing), and what to do if they feel like they are falling. After that I will be taking over. - Ms. Wiley

Fifth Grade Fifth graders spent October 1st-3rd at Bradford Woods! The trip was a huge success! Students learned about tons of science concepts, including ecosystems, animal adaptations, the water cycle, food chains and food webs. They even learned about and caught benthic macroinvertibrates. Are you curious? Ask a fifth grader to tell you what THAT means! Along with all the science, students wrote stories, performed skits, presented the weather, learned about the American flag, and Native Americans. The weather was beautiful, and we enjoyed time with friends working as a team. We also took plenty of time to sing songs and be silly. The teachers got in on the act, showing off their crazy acting and singing skills at the nighttime campfire. Even the mosquitoes couldn't ruin all the fun!

Pre-K Edwards - Spiders! Edwards Pre-K has been learning about spiders, playing spider games, and doing observational drawings of spiders.

Pre-K Morlok - Fall Fun! Mrs. Morlok's Pre-K class enjoyed a crisp walk to the corner of Westenedge and Rocky Ford to visit the small pumpkin display there. Each student was able to buy a $1 pumpkin to carry back to our classroom. We measured and weighed our pumpkins and then painted them to bring home.

you’re more than a spectator; you’re part of the show with loads of audience participation. The experience can

only be summed up in two words: Awe-Inspiring! Check out last year’s event: Harlem Wizards vs BCSF

in the near future.

For Veterans – BCSF has received a donation to give a free ticket to 200 veterans to thank you for your ser-

vice to us all! If this is you, please contact [email protected] to get your ticket.

Come cheer Mr. Smith and watch the BCSF Stars “school” the Harlem Wizards!

Tickets can be purchased online at www.bcsfstars.org or in person at Viewpoint Bookstore - 548 Washing-
