Time slows perceptively as you travel beneath ancient live oaks draped with Spanish moss to Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The ceaseless rhythm of ocean tides, the unbroken arcs of the sun and moon, and the perpetual dance of ocean breezes become more significant than minutes and hours. An emerald gem fringed with white beach sand and acres of swaying marsh grass, Kiawah Island seems to float between quiet river currents and the ocean’s gentle surf. Across the estuary and through the entrance, you enter a world apart from ordinary care. Glimpses of manicured fairways and greens appear as the road winds through a serene maritime forest that shelters wildlife as well as luxurious resort amenities. One final turn, and you arrive at your destination, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

Notable events, such as the dramatic 1991 Ryder Cup matches, the 2007 Senior PGA Championship, and the 2012 PGA Championship, infuse Kiawah Island Golf Resort with an esteemed golf tradition. Some of golf’s most famous designers have transformed the island’s magnificent setting of rolling sand dunes, expansive saltwater marshes, and quiet maritime forests into five unique expressions of the game’s challenges and rewards. The resort is totally committed to the game of golf and those who play it at every level. Our commitment to the game will be proven once again when the resort hosts the 2021 PGA Championship on the Ocean Course.

The Ocean Course/Pete Dye Regarded as one of the finest golf courses in world, The Ocean Course is unmatched in design quality, shot values and sheer beauty. The Atlantic Ocean can be seen from every hole on the course. A modern course based on classic design concepts, The Ocean Course is an easy walk with short distances between greens and tees. In observance of the traditions of the game and overall enjoyment, the course is walking only for anyone teeing off prior to noon (10 AM in June, July and August).

Proud Host of The2021 PGA Championship

Turtle Point/Jack NicklausLate in 2015, Jack Nicklaus, along with the members of his architectural team, surveyed the course and made recommendations for sweeping improvements. Renovations included rebuilding green complexes, re-grassing the greens, tees, and fairways with Paspalum, rebuilding all bunkers, laser leveling all tee boxes, including the range and re-establishing irrigation throughout the course.

Osprey Point/Tom Fazio Making full use of Kiawah’s maritime forests, lagoons and saltwater marshes, Osprey Point is one of the most popular courses with resort guests. Totally modernized in 2014 under the direction of course architect Tom Fazio, Osprey Point features tees, greens and fairways grassed with Paspalum.

Walking is allowed and encouraged at all times during the day, and each guest is provided a caddie at no additional fee (gratuity is not included). The Ocean Course served as proud host site of the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2007 Senior PGA Championship and the 2012 PGA Championship, and will host the 2021 PGA Championship.

Cougar Point/Gary PlayerThe last of Kiawah’s five courses to undergo renovation, Cougar Point reopened to great acclaim in October of 2017 after being closed for 10 months. Much of the renovation returns the course to Gary Player’s original design, including resizing all greens to their original dimensions while maintaining shape and contour. Like the resort’s other four courses, Cougar Point is now completely surfaced with salt-tolerant Paspalum, from tee boxes, to fairways to greens, providing a superior golfing surface, loft and year-round durability.

Oak Point/Clyde JohnstonLocated just across the Kiawah River, Oak Point underwent a complete renovation in 2015. In addition to significantly adding to the strategic challenges of the design, it added the enhanced playing surface of Paspalum.
