for cities and local authorities

• Knowledge Center Flemish Cities (“Kenniscentrum Vlaamse Steden”) was founded in 2007

• Collaboration between 13 cities, VGC, VVSG

• The tasks and reponsibilities are centered around 5 pillars:

• Collect, unlock and disseminate knowledge

• Identify knowledge gaps and develop knowledge

• Ad hoc knowledge mediation: providing answers to knowledge questions

• Create and develop networks that facilitate/enforce interaction and exchange between cities

• Influence policy of other policy levels and aim for collaboration

Based on intense interregional exchange: KCVS + VVSG and UVCW will disseminateknowledge gained by BE REEL!

� GOALS

� Local authorities take up an important role in communication on and dissemination of gathered knowledge in BE REEL!

� BE-REEL! results are anchored in the long term strategies for climate neutrality and the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP’s) of the signatories of the Convenant of Mayors

� Safeguard coherence of BE-REEL! in relation to local policy in general

BE REEL! goals of KCVS

• In 2018: focus on developing a national network of federal, regional and local politicians and administrators, civil society organisations and private entities active in renovation.

• Network will be reinforced and fed throughout the whole project term by means of yearly gatherings.

Masterclass 1.0 (2020) and masterclass 2.0 (2022) each comprise of 6 days of training sessions, workshops, seminars and congress.

Themes:

• Building expertise in developing strategic long term actions, processes and policy instruments.

• Innovative business cases for renovation planning

• Integration of different policies (environment, social policy, spatial development, housing, taxing...)

• Support mechanisms and subsidies for energy efficiency investments
