Specials Schedule

Mass Uniform and Gym

School Mass will begin at 8:10 AM on Wednesdays – All are welcome to attend BOYS:

• white short or long sleeved oxford shirts • tie • a plain white t-shirt should be worn underneath oxford shirts • dress shoes

GIRLS: • knee high socks or tights • plaid jumper, uniform shirt • dress shoes

Due to the fact that we will attend P.E. after mass on Wednesdays, please send tennis shoes to school in your child’s book bag. Boys will be permitted to take off their long-sleeved shirts and ties for gym and girls will be permitted to remove their jumpers for gym. Girls may wear appropriately-lengthed solid colored shorts (or change into solid legging/sweat pants in the winter) under their jumpers so that they may quickly change for gym. Boys can change into short sleeved uniform shirts for gym or wear a plain white t-shirt to gym class.

Weekly Newsletter

After we return from Labor Day break you can expect to receive a weekly newsletter in a

kindergarten flash email EACH WEEK. This document will be sent in a PDF format to the email address(es) you provide to me in the kindergarten registration packet and/or during open house. Please check the kindergarten flash email for information regarding: homework, learning topics, literacy centers, upcoming classroom events, deadlines, current “POPCORN words” (sight words), vocabulary, photos, and more! If you ever miss an email you can always find current and past newsletters on our classroom’s webpage.

Arrival & Dismissal

• Students are to arrive to school no earlier than 7:30 AM. If students arrive before the first bell at 7:45, they are to go to the cafeteria (please note: I may not be present in the classroom until 7:45. Therefore, it is important that your child understands that he/she is to wait in the cafeteria until the first bell at 7:45). During the first few days of school, there will be helpers at the doors leading the little ones to where they need to go (please send your child to school wearing his/her nametag during the first week of school). The tardy bell will ring at 7:55; at this time, we will listen to the school-wide morning announcements & prayer. Dismissal is at 2:35 PM. The 7th graders assist kindergarten with dismissal. Each 7th grader will be assigned to one or two kindergarteners and help guide them to their bus, car rider line, or aftercare. Each 7th grade “buddy” will help with dismissal during the entire school year.

• Car Rider Information:

o If your last name begins with A-M, you will pick up your child at the front entrance (St. Michael Blvd.)

o If your last name begins with N-S, you will pick up your child at the upper level of the church, DOOR 12

o If your last name begins with T-Z, you will pick up your child at the lower level of the church DOOR 11

Snack, Lunch, & B-Days J

Snack:We will have snack time each day around 9:00 AM. Please pack a small snack for your child every day and place it with his/her lunch or in his/her book bag. PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD’S SNACK WITH HIS/HER NAME so that our classroom aide may easily prepare the snack table for each child. Snacks will be immediately placed onto our snack cart as your child enters school in the morning (not with packed lunches). If you placed an additional drink order through the school’s milk service they will be made available to your child at this time. If you do not wish to order drinks through the school’s milk service please send an extra drink for your child to use with his/her snack.

Lunch 11:40-12:00 * Recess 12:00-12:20 Birthdays:Students may celebrate their birthdays by dressing down on their birthday. Students can also bring in a treat for the whole class to enjoy! If your child’s birthday falls on a weekend or a day off of school, we can choose a day to celebrate it. Also, if your child has a summer birthday you can pick a day for us to celebrate it during the school year.

• Parents are welcome to bring birthday treats in during snack, lunch, or at the end of the day and spend some time at school.

• Parents are welcome to read their child’s favorite story to the class when they visit on his/her birthday.

• Parents may eat lunch with their child on his/her birthday. • Please keep me posted on any of your birthday plans so that I may prepare for

them. *Health Information: I may not receive all student file information before the first day of school. Please let me know immediately if your child has any food allergies or any other health concerns.

Classroom Management

We will be using a colored magnet “clip chart” to monitor our classroom behavior. Your child will have a magnet that they physically move up or down the chart, depending on their choices. Please keep in mind that your child may not move up every single day! In order to move up, students must go above and beyond in their behavior choices. The table on the next page explains how the clip chart works. A “Cowpoke Behavior Report” paper will be placed in your child’s take-home folder. Please keep this in your child’s take-home folder at ALL times. I encourage you to check the chart for a daily report on your child’s behavior. At the end of each week please sign the report to show that you are aware of your child’s successes and challenges. Once a report has been completed for the month, I will keep it on file at school in your child’s portfolio (so please do not remove this paper from your child’s take-home folder). This school year, I plan to continue to implement the “Cowpoke Behavior Clip Chart” in my classroom. However, that will not be the only tool I will use to manage the classroom. This year, I hope to place a stronger emphasis on all of the positive actions and learning your child will be doing. Therefore, do not be discouraged if you see consistent green on your child’s behavior chart. If you see green every single day- that is A-OK! In my opinion, your child is OUTSTANDING, no matter what! The color chart is a useful tool for those students who require assistance in monitoring their own behavior. The chart represents our merciful Lord in that, if your child makes a mistake he/she has the opportunity to redeem his/her self. The chart helps little ones to understand how their actions affect other members in the classroom and models clear consequences. With that being said, my #1 focus will be to keep your child- comfortable, safe, and learning! Therefore, I plan to utilize MANY tools such as choral responses, music transitions, non-verbal cues, take-a-break space and many, many more as my primary approach to behavior management.
