The Sutherland Sharks extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and

spectators of the Hakoah Sydney City East FC who are our opponents today. Both teams will be viewing tonight’s fixture as a “must win” game that could determine the goals to be set for the rest of the 2017 season.

The Sharks came back strongly in their last home game to go down 4-3 to APIA in a nail biting finish. We suffered a similar fate last week when, after Pat O’Shea had struck the upright with a fierce shot, Josh Da Silva unleashed a fierce volley to put us equal with Sydney United before a “freakish” goal against the run of play by ex-Sharks player Panny Nikas put United up 2-1. Despite our continual pressure this remained the score. Our losses do not reflect the amount of effort and dedication to training that our Seniors have, and are putting in. We hope tonight they are rewarded for their efforts.

The under 20s continued on their winning way with a convincing 4-1 victory with the inclusion of Chris McStay and Jack Press and the continued impressive form of Christian Torrelli and Tom Pappa. Coach Nick Dimovski and assistant Steve Gordon at times have an embarrassment of riches as the whole squad are performing well. We look forward to another strong showing today.

The 18s showed signs of reaching the level we know they are capable of despite going down 2-1 to Sydney United. Noah Chia is displaying excellent form along with the ever reliable Tom Woerndl.

Our half time entertainment is courtesy of the local association clubs Gymea United and Lilli Pilli FC. These are two of our largest clubs in the Shire association. We look forward to seeing the junior talent on display between games.

Now more than ever we need support for the Sharks. So please give them our vocal support tonight.

It has been a case of so close yet so far for Sutherland Sharks this season. Carlos Vilazon’s

outfit has at times played some attractive football but been let down by occasional lapses.

This round they host giant killers Hakoah Sydney City East and will hope their home ground advantage is enough for a maiden win for 2017.

Player coach Gavin Rae has built on Hakoah’s successes of 12 months ago and early season results against Blacktown City and Sydney United 58 has been signs of their development as a side.

Hakoah’s rigid defence will be hard to break down but the Sharks have the tools to get the job done.

Sydney United 58 FC 2 - Sutherland Sharks 1 at Sydney United Sports Centre

A magical strike from Panny Nikas helped Sydney United 58 FC to their first win of the 2017 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season with a 2-1 victory against Sutherland Sharks 2-1.

Goals in either half from Nikas were the difference as Sydney United 58 FC looked more like the side that dominated the 2016 season.

Josh Da Silva gave Sutherland hope in the 62nd minute when he tied the scores up at 1-1, but it was always going to be hard to stop United 58 in front of the vocal home support from the BOKA Stand.

The victory capped off a turbulent week for the Reds on a good note and should hopefully set the tone for a return to winning ways for the remainder of the season.

Hakoah Sydney City East 2 - Rockdale City Suns 3 at Hensley Athletic Field

Rockdale City Suns maintained their impeccable record with a 3-2 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s victory against Hakoah Sydney City East.

The home side had the better of the first half chances but didn’t capitalise on them and this allowed Rockdale City Suns to go into the break a goal up thanks to a strike from Aleks Canak.

Goals to Harris Gaitatzis and Jordan early in the second half stretched Rockdale’s lead to three by the 65th minute.

Hakoah mounted a spirited fight back with two late goals to Bradley Walker and Paul Orgad but it wouldn’t to be for the Gavin Rae coached side as Rockdale clung on for all three points.

UNDER 20s

Competition leaders Sutherland Sharks will be shooting for five consecutive wins when they

welcome Hakoah Sydney City East to Seymour Shaw this Saturday.

Sutherland have begun the 2017 campaign in excellent style after scoring fifteen goals in their first four matches and will be regarded as strong favourites against the visiting Hakoah side.

Hakoah have made an indifferent start to the season with two wins and two losses leaving Paul Hubbard’s side in sixth position after four rounds, although there’s been plenty to like about the Hensley Athletic Field outfit who will undoubtedly be intent on leaving Seymour Shaw with their first big scalp of the year.
