IMAGINATION STATION

MEMORY VERSE

“God will meet all your needs.” Philippians 4:19, NIrV

Story Summary MATTHEW 6:25-34 Jesus reminds us that, if God feeds the birds and dresses the flowers, He will surely take care of us! Go outside with some paper and crayons. Take a walk and look for birds and flowers. Talk about their colors and what they look like, and then try and draw them. Take the pictures you draw and hang them on your refrigerator. Let them be a sweet reminder that God will take care of you!

STORY SUMMARY 1 KINGS 17:1-6 God takes care of Elijah by sending Ravens with food. It’s easy to forget all the things God does to take care of us. This month, use your drive time to help you and your child remember. Take a few moments to pray when you get in the car or when you arrive where you are going. Pray for and thank God for things like: safety, a car to drive, money to buy groceries, teachers that help us learn, doctors to help us feel better, libraries to check out books, money to buy clothes, etc. Before you know it, you and your child will see God at work all around you.

―One kid leading

another kid to the foot

changing encounter with

Jesus is one of the most

prolific and effective

means of evangelism in

the nation.‖

WEEK THREE May 17/18 STORY SUMMARY 1 KINGS 17:7-16 God uses a poor widow to help take care of Elijah. Grab some checkers or a bathtub crayon. Talk about all the people that help your child while you give him a bath. See how many people he can think of then make a mark, or line up a checker each time he names someone new. When he’s done, ask your child to count how many marks or checkers he has. Clap for God and celebrate Him for giving your child so many people to help him!

STORY SUMMARY GENESIS 12:1-7 God shows Abraham His plan, which includes a new home and a huge family! Cuddle up with your child and pray. “Dear God, I am so glad it was Your plan to give [name of child] to me. I love him so very much. Help me to have wisdom and love so I will know how to take care of him. Help us both to trust Your plan and follow You wherever You lead. We love You, God. In Jesus name, amen.”

Memory Verse Hebrews 10:24, NLT “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts

of love and good works.”

Bottom Line: God, if I want to do big things for You, I’ll need to work with others on Your crew. Bible Theater: Nehemiah leads a team to rebuild the wall. God has called us to live our lives for Him, even now while we’re kids. We can’t do big things for God until we’re willing to do hard things for Him. God created us to need other people. As babies, we needed our parents, but now, we need our peers and others who follow God like we do. God called Nehemiah to do something too big for him to do alone. He felt a burden in his heart for a problem he didn’t think he could solve. Not only did God give the king to back his plans, God sent Nehemiah people to work alongside him to rebuild the walls. God will often place a burden in your heart for a really big problem.

1. Share a time when you worked as a team with other kids to get something done. 2. Who will you ask to help you when God asks you to do something so big you can’t do it by your-

self?

Bottom Line: God, if I want to do big things for You, I’ll have to do more than people expect me to. Bible Theater: The mighty men bring David water from the well in Jerusalem (with details from any others of their exploits). God has called us to live our lives for Him, even now while we’re kids. We can’t do big things for God until we’re willing to do hard things for Him. You will have to go far beyond the low expectations people have for kids to obey God’s plan for your life. Just because people don’t think kids can do big things for God until they are adults, God has a different opinion. God isn’t waiting for you to get old enough to serve Him, He’s waiting for you to get up and just follow Him. Rebekah lived at a time when there were very limited expectations of what a woman could do. But she did her role above and beyond what was expected and her life took a turn she would have never expected. 1. What are things people think you can’t do because you’re just a kid? 2. Have you ever done more than what’s expected of you? Share what happened.

WEEK THREE May 17/18

Bottom Line: God, if I want to do big things for You, Your voice inside will help me stay true. Bible Theater: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow. God has called us to live our lives for Him, even now while we’re kids. We can’t do big things for God until we’re willing to do hard things for Him. Often what God calls you to do will make you different from everyone else. No matter what others do, you will have to choose to take a stand to accomplish the big things God has planned for you. Follow your convictions. God may call you not to do something that everyone else thinks is OK. But you have to listen to what God’s Holy Spirit is telling you inside. Just because God has called you to take a stand for something doesn’t mean you have to get upset with others for not tak-ing the same stand. God calls people to do big things in all different ways. Let God be as original and creative with others as He is with you. Once you feel that call from God in your heart to do something hard for Him, you will have to do it no matter what anyone else thinks. You will have to trust God to take care of the outcome.

1. Doing hard things for God sometimes means we’ve got to do things differently than everyone else. Do you think it’s hard to do things differently than your friends? 2. Is there anything God’s telling you to do that you’re not doing because you’re afraid of what other people might think?

Bottom Line: God, if I want to do big things for You, I must be willing to do the small things too. Bible Theater: David plays music for King Saul and works as a shepherd for his dad after being anointed king. God has called us to live our lives for Him, even now while we’re kids. We can’t do big things for God until we’re willing to do hard things for Him. Sometimes, even when you really want to do big things for God, you will find yourself faced with small things that need to be done instead. But these small things can be just as hard to do as big things. Doing small hard things prepares you for other tasks even when you can’t see the point in it. It’s important to do each task, even repetitive or boring ones in a way that brings glory to God (or makes God look good or represents God well). Even if no one ever notices or gives you a pat on the back for what you’ve done, God sees and is pleased. You will be re-warded by God in ways that you can’t imagine. 1. Do you think the small things you do, like cleaning your room and making your bed, are important? Why or why not? 2. What small things could you be better about doing?

WEEK ONE May 3/4

Christ. Do we blend in or do people see us responding differently to situations be-cause of having Christ in our lives? In kids’ church, we are talking to the kids about “the beatitudes” (Matthew 5:1-12), Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. We will be looking at being humble, obedient, compas-sionate – just to name a few. This is the passage in the Bible when Jesus tells us how we are to live as Christians. It’s a pretty big deal! Later on in the summer, we’ll be studying the 10 Commandments. Let’s work together in making this a summer a spiritual jour-ney for you and your family. Each week, you will receive a parent/family guide to give you things to do and talk about while going through this study.

Well it’s almost here... “summer break.” As a mom of three wild-at-heart boys, I always looked for-ward to summertime. No homework, no strict bed-times, camps, vacations, swimming pool, over-nighters and mud fights – we loved summertime at the George house. It was so fun! It also gave us the opportunity to work on stuff. Maybe some attitudes needed adjusted; a new skill to be learned; or some character building might be in order. This can be a great time for all of these things because you’re not stressed about grades, bedtimes, etc. I am currently at a church conference and one of the speakers challenged us to think about what we are doing to attract people to

As much as I looked for-ward to summer with our boys – by mid-August, it was time to get back at it. I was always a little sad, but I was ready and THEY were ready to grab those back-packs and head out the door for a new “blessed” school year. Enjoy!

Parenting Thoughts with Kathy George

YOUR MOVE Our Move Toward God Main Point: God made the first move. Scripture Reference: 1 John 4:9-14, Romans 5:8 We can’t even BEGIN our journey with Jesus until we understand that God made the first step for us. We must understand that, by coming to us and dying on the Cross, Jesus made a way for us to live this amazing life. He made the first move, because we could not. Real love is that God sent Jesus to pay for our debt, even though at that time we didn’t love him. Think about it, because he loved you, God sent Jesus before you even had a chance to love him. Not only did God prove his love and pay our debt, but he also gives us what we need in order to have a new life. God doesn’t want you to continue to live the way that you are living. He wants you to live the way that life was meant to be. He wants you to live as if God is the only love in your life. He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit. When it comes to the life of a follower of Jesus, the first move, the most important move, was made by God. You see, God made the First Move.

Page 7: KIDS MONTHLY NEWS - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/cypresswesleyanchurch/documents...As babies, we needed our parents, but now, we need our peers and others who follow God like

WEEK FOUR May 24/25

YOUR MOVE Our Move Toward How We View Ourselves Main Point: Seeing God first changes everything. Scripture Reference: Matthew 16:15-19 When you look in the mirror what do you see? Are you looking at yourself and seeing what you think everyone else sees? Or are you looking at yourself and seeing what God sees? When we view ourselves through Jesus’ eyes, and see His life and death and resurrection, it changes everything. It gives us confidence, because Jesus gave His life for ours. It gives us hope, because the plan for us is bigger than we could have imagined. It gives us security, because it’s not about what we accomplish but what Jesus accomplished for us. Seeing God first changes everything.

How do you view yourself?

How do you think God sees you?

Talk about ways you love how God made you: how athletic, beautiful, great singer, dancer…! God made you special– when you see yourself through God’s eyes– it changes everything!

WEEK THREE May 17/18

P A G E 7 I S S U E 5

WEEK TWO May 10/11 YOUR MOVE Our Move Toward Others Main Point: Reach out; Receive; Repeat Scripture Reference: Matthew 14:15-21, 1 John 4:19-20 As Christians, we want to share God's love with others, but sometimes we just think that people are just gonna jump on our side without any effort on our part. Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where we see how we can share God’s love with somebody, but we don’t. Maybe we get scared, or we get embarrassed, or we just aren’t sure if we really have what it takes to do it. We are like the disciples, they weren’t sure what to expect when Jesus went to feed five thousand people with only a few fish and a couple loaves of bread. God gave them more than enough, and He'll do the same for us. We don’t neces-sarily know how God is going to handle certain situations, but we can trust and obey Him completely. The disciples obeyed Jesus, even when they didn’t really understand how things would turn out, and we can do the same thing.

How would you have felt if you were a disciple and Jesus was asking you to feed the thousands of people with very little food?

Do you think it works the same way when we try to serve others, encourage others, or share Jesus with them? Do you think we will get more comfortable or less comfortable? Why or why not?

We must make sure that we understand this as well. We can reach out to others, because Jesus reached out to us.

YOUR MOVE Our Move From Here – GO FIRST Main Point: “Go first” instead of “Be first”. Scripture Reference: 1 Timothy 4:12; Matthew 5:16, 3 John 1:3-11, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Mark 10:45 Go first, instead of Be First– so often we love to be first in line, in a basket ball game or at recess line. But what we are talk-ing about isn’t about being first, it’s about “going”. What does Going first mean? What we’re talking about is stepping up when nobody else is. We’re talking about GOING and doing something for Jesus. Sometimes, being the first one to GO and do something can be a bit scary. It’s not about BEING first – putting yourself in front of or above everybody else. It’s about GOING first – going and doing something for Jesus before anybody else does. Sometimes, it can be something really challenging, like giving up some T.V. in order to spend more time in God’s Word, even when nobody else in your family is doing anything like that. Or you give up half of your birthday money to help out cancer patients, when all your other friends are spending all their birthday money on themselves.

What is another way you could go first with the way you are living your life?

What is the biggest difference between going first and being first?

Do you think someone will change their behavior because of a good example from someone? Why or why not?
