PARENT/GUARDIAN GUIDE WEEK 1 – 1ST MAY 2020
Welcome to parent/guardian guide Week 1!
Week 1 – The bible is from God
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness” – 2 Timothy 3:16
Link to Term 1: We have learnt last term about Jesus and how he is revealed as the
son of God in the miracles he has done. Jesus as Messiah reveals God as Father.
The bible has been given by God so we may know him.
Main point: God has given us his word in the bible. The bible is from God for us.
Teaching: In Paul’s letter to Timothy he notes that “all scripture is God-breathed and
is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the
servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” There are many
other references in the bible to say that the word is from God (John 1). Knowing that
the bible is from God is an important step in faith. When we know that the bible is
from God it shapes our response. If we know that the word is from God then we
know that it will teach us, rebuke us, correct us and train us in righteousness. This
passage in Timothy highlights that the word of God equips us for a life of following
God.
Discussion Questions:
1. What did you learn from the video or what was your favourite part?
Any response – pick one
2. The bible is from God. The bible verse from 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that the
bible is God breathed and useful for a whole bunch of things. What was one
thing that the bible was useful for?
• Teaching
• Rebuking
• Correcting
• Training in righteousness.
3. Last term we looked at the word respond. A response is a reaction. It is what
you do when you hear something, learn something, see something etc. Today
you learnt that the bible is from God and is important for helping us become
more like Jesus. How should you “respond” to what you learnt? What should
you do?
Read the bible, listen to church or kids club.
Game - 52 pick-up game Equipment: Deck of cards or a deck of cards app How to play: Write 2 Timothy 3:16 on a piece of paper. Shuffle the deck and place
cards on the ground face down or use the app. Pick up 1 card at a time. Each suit
fits with part of the passage and requires an action. Teaching = sit ups. Rebuking =
punching the air. Correcting = push ups. Training in righteousness = burpees. Each
number tells you how much you have to do for each action. Faces = 10. When you
see an ace you have to read the verse (if your child can’t read then you can read it
and they can repeat). If there are multiple children playing, they can either complete
the actions together or they take turns completing the actions. Kids need to say each
word as they do the action i.e. every sit up they say teaching.
Reflection: This game helps us learn each part of this verse and helps us remember
that God’s word is helpful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness.
Craft - 2 Timothy game cube Equipment: paper print out, scissors, glue, textas/pencils How to make: Download a pdf cube net from google or use the template at the end
of this document and print. Write each part of the verse onto a square on the cube
net. Colour and decorate each square. Cut around the edges of the cube net. Fold
along the dotted lines to form the cube. Put glue on the tabs so that the cube will
stay in shape. Reflection: The verse reminds us that everything in the Bible is from God and
teaches us.
