The Company

The collective experience and craftsmanship from 165 years of company history are

reflected in kieffer‘s innovative quality products. Founded in 1848 in Munich, the long-

standing company kieffer has established itself internationally as a German premium

manufacturer of saddles and equestrian sports supplies.

The product portfolio ranges from high-quality English dressage, jumping, endurance and

general purpose saddles, via snaffle and double bridles, saddle accessories, gloves and

chaps. kieffer products are sold on all continents through a global sales network in

cooperation with more than 1,500 specialist dealers.

kieffer snaffle and double bridles are available in different sizes according to model for

Haflingers, M-Pony (medium-sized) and L-Pony for large ponies, as well as for Cob/

Thoroughbred, Full/Warmbloods, Extra Full and Coldblood horses. All snaffle bridles are

fitted with web reins, double bridles are fitted with leather reins.

kie�er Quality

For many years already, kieffer has been sourcing its bridle leather from Italy‘s best

tanneries. We use exclusively cowhides for the manufacture of bridles. The bridle leather

is vegetable-tanned. This means that only natural and environmentally easily degradable

tanning agents may be used to make the hides durable and supple with good tear and

tensile strength. It takes very sophisticated and time-consuming processing methods to

produce leather which meets kieffer’s high quality requirements.

Only the particularly soft-padded elements on the bridle are made from smooth goat

leather, since this leather is supple and soft but also sturdy and hard-wearing.

Leather is a natural product. With proper leather care, it offers a long service life in the

most diverse uses.

Unsuitable care products

Often, Vaseline is inappropriately used for leather care, as it clogs the pores of

the leather. Solvents and household cleaners are too harsh and will damage the

leather surface.

Leather care step by step

The first step is to clean the individual bridle parts with distilled water to remove the

rough dirt and then treat the leather with a soft rag and leather fluid.

It is recommended to gently bend the leather so the fluid can penetrate evenly into

every pore.

For final care, wipe the bridle down with some leather oil, but don‘t use too much oil.

Consumer tips on leather care

Care products

For optimum results, use only distilled water, leather fluid and leather oil. Distilled

water is lime-free, so no lime can settle in the leather pores and cause a greyish film.

Leather fluid cleans and maintains the leather, followed by a thin coating of leather

oil to nourish the protein fibre of the leather for lasting viscosity.

Fittings and buckles

kieffer uses 100% rustproof fittings and buckles. They come in matching colours

according to model, either in chrome or brass coloured finish. kieffer does not use

cheap iron hardware.

Crownpiece Belinda This standard crownpiece is from the kieffer classic snaffle bridle collection Belinda.

It is unlined and adorns the horse‘s head with a simple, classic look.

All kieffer crownpieces have a standard width of 25 mm, whereas the straps for the cheekpieces and throatlash are 13 mm wide each. The throatlash on most models is with buckle-fastening on the left and right, to allow for a better fit also on horses with shorter heads. As an added benefit, the crownpieces and throatlashs can be purchased separately as spares at low cost.

Crownpiece Ergonomic This crownpiece is a refinement of the classic ”Belinda“ model. The headstrap of the nose-

band is embedded in the crownpiece for an elegant visual effect. The soft padding of the

crownpiece provides for pleasant wearing comfort. The Ergonomic crownpiece is protected

by a registered design.

Crownpiece Comfort On the crownpiece Comfort, the proven advantages of the Ergonomic crownpiece were

complemented with an innovative ear cutout, which, depending on the horse‘s physique,

will provide increased wearing comfort. The Comfort crownpiece is protected by a

registered design.

Curved crownpiece The curved crownpiece is available as an optional version of the padded crownpiece.

On this version, the crownpiece is slightly offset to the back of the horse‘s head.

In addition to the adjustable throatlash, also the noseband can be easily adapted on the new kieffer crownpieces on both sides via another strap which is fastened to the crownpiece.

This walking bridle was de-veloped in cooperation with the VFD (Association of Leisure Horse Riders and Horse Carriage Drivers in Germany) notably for the purpose of taking country rides. It can be used like a regular bridle and effortlessly be turned into a headcollar by unbuckling the bit with just a few swift motions. It allows the horse to graze comfortably while being safely led on a leash attached to a D-ring under the mouth-strap.
