I often ask myself which side I would have been on back in the time of Jesus. Would I have been with the Pharisees ‘This man cannot be from God: he does not keep the Sabbath.’ Am I so caught up with being right and doing the right thing, obeying the rules, that I am blind to how God is working all around me? Once again, we see Jesus breaking the rules in order to reach out and heal. Open my eyes Lord so that I too will reach out and bring your healing love to those around me. How clear the man born blind is after being healed by Jesus. ‘If this man were not from God, he couldn’t do a thing.’ Having defended Jesus to the Pharisees, he was then driven away. What does Jesus do? ‘Jesus heard they had driven him away, and when he found him, he said to him ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’ Jesus went looking for the man he had cured and revealed himself to him. ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘tell me who he is so that I may believe in him’. Jesus said, ‘You are looking at him; he is speaking to you’. Lord help me to become aware of my blindness. What are the scales that need to be removed from my eyes? What am I doing that keeps me blind? Jesus you often asked before healing people, do you want to be healed? Do I want my blindness healed or am I more comfortable being blind? Lord that I may see. Help me realise that the darkness is dispelled by light and you Jesus are the light of the world. ‘Like the deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you my God.’ (Ps. 42:1)

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things,

and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
