Killybegs has deep water all-weather

harbour infrastructure along with

world-class hyrdaulic, mechanical and

other key services which play a pivotal

role in the development of off-shore

energy. Killybegs is also home to a

number of innovative and cutting-edge

firms involved in a range of sectors.

The town of Killybegs has a proud

maritime heritage. Developed

initially as a fishing port, it has since

1999, played an important role in

facilitating the off-shore exploration

and in particular the development

of the Corrib Field. It has also been

the harbour of choice for wind farm

developers by facilitating the delivery

of wind turbines for wind farms

throughout the north and west of

Ireland.

berthing and quayside facilities along

with direct access to the Highlands of

Donegal.

Plans are also in place for the

development of a strategic, innovative

hub for marine resources including

offshore renewable energies, added

value seafood and marine tourism.

We have used the port for drilling, subsea operations, pipe storage and other development work and our experience with Killybegs has been second to none. Cruise Ship

In recent years the harbour has

facilitated into port cruise ships up

to 260m in length and can host over

1,800 passengers along with a crew of

760 at any one time. Killybegs cruise

tourism is growing ever more popular

with increasing numbers of cruise ships

visiting annually.

Killybegs Information Centre is on hand

Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) is the first college in ireland to offer two programmes in Wind energy technology.

Having signed an education provider

agreement with BZEE, the German

Centre for Renewable Technology, LYIT

is the only approved and accredited

college to provide their Wind Energy

Service Technician programmes in

Ireland. BZEE’s programme has the

endorsement and approval of most

of the major European manufacturers

that supply Ireland with wind turbines

for electricity generation. Furthermore

it is the only education and training

programme currently for wind service

technicians with worldwide recognition.

originally known as Tourism College

Killybegs has over 40 years experience

of producing talented and skilled

graduates for the tourism industry

both in Ireland and abroad. Courses

on offer range from short certificate

programmes to degree level; offering

qualifications in food production,

leisure, heritage, hospitality and

tourism.

Higher Certificate in Wind energy technology

of practical and theoretical education

and training. The courses are delivered

in both the Killybegs campus and

Letterkenny campuses.

LYIT has a 27m Turbine Training Tower

on its Killybegs Campus and it is the

only GL approved training tower in

Ireland. Wind Turbine Technicians are

required to undergo Climbing and High

Rescue training on an annual basis. This

tower will facilitate that training for

both our students and industry. LYIT

has two 250kW Turbine Nacelles and

Rotor Blades for two of their training

workshops. The rotor blade repair

workshop and turbine repair workshop

are approximately 500m2 and are

located in Killybegs near the main

Killybegs Campus at the Wind Energy

Centre. Since its opening in 2011 some

76 graduates have found fulltime work

in the industry and the graduates of the

programme are highly regarded by the

sector.
