Energy Conservation at Kimberly-Clark• Over 100 production plants worldwide.– 23 plants in US, 1 in Canada.• Energy usage and cost at each plant tracked on global database

since 1980’s. • Global energy efficiency (EE) program started early 1990’s –

Vision 2000.• 5-year energy reduction targets set at each plant based on most

energy efficient production assets within K-C. Now working on achieving Sustainability 2015 targets.• Corporate energy team performs energy audits at each plant

every 3-5 years. • Each plant has list of EE projects, with capital cost and energy

savings, to reach targets.

Energy Conservation at Kimberly-Clark– 11% of total energy used globally is from renewable sources.– Installed landfill gas project in 2008 at US plant, provides 20% of

natural gas used at the production facility.– Installed 999 KW solar power system in Italy.– Biomass steam plant installed in Brazil.– 100% green power (wind) contract at World HQ building in Texas.– Since 2000, in response to high electricity prices, K-C has installed

electricity and steam cogeneration (CHP) at two US plants, one plant in Italy, and currently in startup at a plant in Australia.

From 2011 to 2012, K-C reduced global energy consumption by 11.7 trillion Btu, enough energy to power more than 300,000 houses for one year, while sales increased from $20.84 billion to $21.06 billion.
