TO CUT Main fabric: – Cut 1, 21.5cm x 25.5cm (back/fl ap)– Cut 1, 21.5 cm x 16.5cm (front)– Cut 1, 21.5cm x 14cm (outer pocket)

Lining fabric:– Cut 1, 22cm x 26cm (back/fl ap)– Cut 1, 22cm x 17cm (front)– Cut 1, 21.5cm x 14cm (outer pocket)– Cut 1, 21.5cm x 30cm (inner pocket)

Interlining:– Cut 1, 22cm x 26cm (back/fl ap)– Cut 1, 22cm x 17cm (front)

Wadding:– Cut 1, 22cm x 26cm (back/fl ap)– Cut 1, 22cm x 17cm (front)

TO SEW

1 Take the 22cm x 26cm pieces of lining, interlining and wadding. This will make the back and the flap of the Kindle sleeve. Sandwich the wadding between the lining and the interlining. The right side of the lining should be on the outside. Pin the sandwich together. Starting in the middle of one edge, mark the direction of the first line of quilting stitches. It should be about at about 45°. Following this line, start to quilt the wadding sandwich.

You could use a square of paper, folded in half diagonally, as a guide.

2 Turn the sandwich around so that you start the next line of quilting stitches from the other side. This will help to prevent the sandwich from distorting. Using the first row of stitches as a guide, sew a second row parallel to the first. Keep going until you have quilted the whole area – remembering to turn each time.

3 Now quilt, going the other way, at the same angle but in the opposite direction. Use pins to mark the first row across the middle and sew, using the pins as a guide. Quilt the rest of the wadding sandwich in the same way.

7 Place the 21.5cm x 25.5cm main outer fabric with right side facing uppermost on a flat surface. Take the outer pocket and place on top, lining side down and aligning raw edges along the bottom. On top of these, place the 21.5cm x 16.5cm outer front section with the right side down and the lower and side edges aligned. Pin, then sew the bottom and side seams. Trim seams, remembering to cut across the corners. Turn out.

8 Tuck the quilted sleeve lining into the outer. It needs to be a snug fit. If it doesn’t fit properly, trim the seams down a little more or re-sew to make the lining section slightly smaller.

4 Take the 22cm x 17cm piece of wadding, lining and interlining and repeat steps 1-3. Trim the quilted sections down so that the larger one measures 21cm x 25cm and the smaller 21cm x 16cm.

5 Take the 21.5cm x 30cm piece of lining for the inner pocket and fold in half widthways (WST). Press. Place the pocket piece (still folded), on top of the larger of the quilted lining pieces (right side up). With the raw edges aligned along the lower edge. Place the other quilted piece on top with the right side facing downwards and the bottom and side edges aligned. Pin, then sew the side and bottom seams. Trim the seams closely to minimise bulk and cut across the corners.

6 Take the 21.5cm x 14cm outer and lining fabric for the outer pocket. With the wrong sides together, pin. Cut a piece of bias binding 21cm long. Pin one edge to the upper edge of the pocket, on the lining side. Sew, then fold the bias binding over the raw edges of the pocket top. Tuck the edge of the bias binding underneath. Pin and sew in place.

9 Pin the flap lining and outer together. Trim down the side edges of the flap so that it covers the front of the Kindle sleeve without overhanging at the sides.

10 Cut a piece of bias binding 64cm long. Starting in one corner, pin the bias binding to the lining side of the flap and around the top of the Kindle sleeve. When you get to the corners of the flap, fold it neatly around the corner. Sew in place. Fold the bias binding over and topstitch the bias binding all the way around.

11 Make a buttonhole near the lower edge of the flap, in the centre and sew the button onto front of Kindle sleeve.
