English Language Arts (ELA) Red Group I am very pleased with Red Group’s effort this month. They continue to try their best and give their all. We have practiced writing the letters Pp, Qq, Rr and Ss this month. We have also learned the phonetic sounds of Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn and Oo. We do this through a song and movement video as well as various games. They are doing much better at sounding out CVC words due to the repetitive activities we do. We continue to practice the sentence structures that we have learned throughout the semester. Keep up the great work, Red Group! Yellow Group In August, the members of Yellow Group have continued to make strong progress. Their vocabulary is expanding and they are speaking more fluently. We continue to work on handwriting forming correct upper and lower case letters with finger spaces between words. In our sight word work, we covered funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, and it. For each word, we practice reading a given sentence and then create and write our sentence. We have lots of interesting conversations and share stories and news each day. Well done on your excellent effort, Yellow Group! August Swim Days – We have made the most of the hot sunny weather. Swimming is lots of fun but also a very important life skill. Through this regular exposure many of the students have become more comfortable and confident in the water. Some were very afraid at first and they are now putting their heads under the water and learning to kick and float. Well done everyone! Story We read three fabulous stories in August. WE’RE GOING ON ABEAR HUNT is a classic children’s book and the differentlandforms tied in nicely with our theme. Next we read theGruffalo which is set in a forest. THE GRUFFALO is a magicaltale of a mouse who takes a stroll through the woods.Encountering three predators – a fox, an owl and a snake – theplucky mouse has to use his wits to survive. Last we read THEEARTH BOOK which explores the important, timely subject ofenvironmental protection and conservation. This book includeslots of easy, smart ideas on how we can all work together tomake the Earth feel good - from planting a tree and using bothsides of the paper, to saving energy and reusing old things innew ways.

Center Time Week 1: Bear Hunt map art, Bear Hunt play dough (sensory &imagination), Landform bingo vocabulary gameWeek 2: Textures & colors of Earth – patterns (math), Earth Daysyllable clap and build literacy center, Helping Earth Lego STEMWeek 3: Pick-up trash math center, Earth Day build-a-word literacycenter and landform matching card vocabulary game center

DPA (Daily Physical Activity)A big round of applause to all the students for the amazingeffort they put into exercising and attempting each activity. Westill start every day with stretching and a warm-up. We havealso continued to work on our cardio on cooler days though. The sport that we focused on this month is volleyball. We playthis using a balloon so it gives the children extra time to react.First they learned how to volley and dig. Once this gets tooeasy, we will switch to a beach ball. They love this sport and Ithink they're going to master it. The students also worked ontheir coordination by doing a series of in and out runningthrough cones. This teaches them to control their movementsin smaller turns. Keep up the excellent effort, SIS Kindy!
