The 68th Venice Film Festival is preparing a luxurious ticket, with a series of highly anticipated world
premieres. The oldest festival in the world will take place between August 31 and September 10.
On the list of confirmations and possibilities, accounted for by "Variety" is the new film by Roman Polanski,
'Carnage', and David Cronenberg’s, "A Dangerous Method", both in competition.
Philippe Garrel will also be present in Venice with "Un Eté Brulant ' as well as expected "Faust" by Aleksandr
Sokurov.
The United States will be present in great force on the Lido, starting with Todd Solonz’s 'Dark Horse', in which
Mia Farrow, Christopher Walken and Selma Blair are the biggest names in the cast. But Hollywood is also where the
biggest questions arise from because of the excess of films. That is, there are filmmakers who have more than one
finished film (or almost finished when there are three months to the festival), but conflicts of interest among studios can
oblige to opt for just one. Steven Soderbergh, for example, has two films in the pipeline for Venice: "Haywire",
Lionsgate, and "Contagion", Warner Bros.. Steven Spielberg is also in a similar situation with 'War Horse' (Dreamworks
and Disney) and "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" (Paramount and Sony). The third Hollywood
star in this situation is George Clooney with "The Descendants" (directed by Alexander Payne), Fox, and "Ides of March
'(directed by Clooney himself), Sony.
The list of movies that are still subject to the assessment of the organization or trying to be ready in time is too
long: 'The Moth Diaries”
Mary Harron, 'WE', Madonna's (which ultimately failed Cannes); 'Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy ", the screen
adaptation of John Le Carré by Tomas Alfredson, "The Lady", by Luc Besson, "The Grandmasters' of Wong Kar Wai,
'On the Road', Walter Salles, or "La Chispa de la Vida ' of Álex de la Iglesia.

The director Karim Ainouz presented "The
Silver Abyss', inspired by the song "Eye to
Eye ', by Chico Buarque, the Directors'
Fortnight, parallel show at the Cannes
Festival.
Violet, played by a sexy Alessandra
Negrini, is a dentist in Rio de Janeiro and a
married mother of a 15 year old boy. The
couple seems tolive well in the new
apartment he just bought and passion
seems be lit, since 'The Silver Abyss "starts with a torrid love scene.
However, shortly after an “earthquake” affecting the lives of Violet, when her husband,
played by Otto Jr, sends her from Porto Alegre a message saying: 'My love, I no longer
love you. I feel I'm suffocated by your side and going away to Patagonia."
The film, directed by Karim Ainouz ("Madame Sata") tells the following 24 hours
in the live of Violet, her pilgrimage, her despair, her desire to leave immediately to
Porto Alegre in search of her husband. The screenwriter Beatriz Bracher said the film
"does not intend to explain psychological reasons of separation. It begins with a scene
of strong love so that the absence of man is felt right away, "she explained.
Karim Ainouz already talked about the song by Chico Buarque, who inspired him to
come up with the story. "One night when I was on a stretch of Copacabana where
the sea waves hit very strongly and have taken many people, I noticed the danger,
the abyss, "he explained.”The separation for her is like an earthquake and the song
is the start of the process. Perhaps in some time, maybe 10 years from now, it will be
better. The character of which is "Eye to eye ' is also an abandoned
woman, "he analyzes. "Chico Buarque is one
of the greatest composers of Brazil. Many
of his
songs have to do with Rio de Janeiro, where
there is this a strong contrast
8
between nature and civilization. He wanted Rio to be like a character, a mirror of the
character of Violet, "he affirmed. "I come from the Northeast of Brazil, where there is a
very strong matriarchal structure, since many men abandoned their wives. I wanted to
talk about their husbands being gone. This strikes me as a very important theme for
Brazilian women, "he added.
In his loneliness, Violet meets a young father and his daughter, abandoned by the wife
and mother. "That comes from inside you and gives you the realization that other people
live the same situation as she does, "said the director.
Alessandra Negrini said that "the
separation occurs after a phone call,
where she could only listen to the
voice of Chico Buarque
singing something like 'go back and
look into my eyes, you see that I
have rejuvenated ».
"The important thing for me was to
enter that state of mind of abandoned
women, where there is no plot;
everything is through
emotions, feelings, "said the actress.
In one scene from the movie, we see
Violet dancing alone in a disco to the
sound to the song "Maniac" from the
soundtrack of 'Flashdance'. "This song makes recalls some memories and is a very
important song for our generation. When Violet hears it, she goes into a trance, as if it
connects her to a period of 15 years ago, the last time I went to a nightclub ' Ainouz
said.

Super-productions as successful as the
"Pirates of Caribbean” trilogy are full of
curious facts. They arouse interest in the casual
viewer, and especially in the most devoted
fans, the backstage production of a saga that
has two of the most expensive films of
all times is a fascinating look at the casting
decisions for last minute improvisations forced
by weather conditions, historical influences on argument or even embarrassing and
hilarious episodes.
1 The co-creator and writer Stuart Beattie conceived the role of Jack
Sparrow with Hugh Jackman in mind, and even the first name was a
reference to character actor, but Disney decided that Jackman
did not have enough star appeal, opting then for Johnny
Depp. Robert De Niro, however, had previously refused the invitation to
embody Captain Sparrow, believing that the film would not be
profitable. He could not be
more wrong.
2 Heath Ledger came to be
seriously considered for
the role of Will
Turner, but Gore Verbinski
actually chose Orlando
Bloom, in large
part because of his recent
participation in the trilogy
"Lord of the Rings." The
director felt that Bloom
could be more profitable in
promoting the film.
3 Clothing and soot from coal was used to hide Johnny Depp’s numerous tattoos. The
tattoo on his arm with the inscription "Jack Sparrow", seen in the film, was only
temporary, but the actor later decided to tattoo a real replica in honor of his son Jack.
11
4 The monopolistic East India Company in this plot is
a reference to the true historical facts and the British Company
Indies. The mark of a "P" on the pirates, however, was actually
made on the forehead and not the arm, as is recreated in the movie.
5 Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp
used colored contact lenses
in the last scene of "The Curse of the
Black Pearl." However, the
actress’ eye color is much clearer
than Depp’s, causing the
lenses had to be darkened. Such was
the dizziness that these
lenses caused that the actress
eventually got rid of them
immediately after the shooting.
6 Many members of the production team were sick during the
filming of "The Curse of the Black Pearl," due to turbulence at sea.
Actress Keira Knightley had even taken pills for motion sickness,
but the result was not very productive for the recordings, since she
ended up falling asleep due to side effects.
Jack Sparrow’s seven gold teeth were Johnny Depp’s idea.
The actor asked his dentist before the start of production of the first movie, so he could
use them as a bargaining tool if the executives at Disney did not agree with the idea.
8 During the recording of "Dead Man's Chest" in the Bahamas, all the
production crew and cast had to be evacuated to Los Angeles
because of the imminent threat of Hurricane Wilma.
12
9 "Dead Man's Chest" was banned in China for its references to
the practice of cannibalism, which constituted a crucial part of the plot.
10 Unlike the first film, the pirate ship 'Black Pearl' and
'Flying Dutchman'
turned out to be
actually constructed
during the pre-
production of the two
sequels.
11 "At World's End"
was the first film in
the saga to portray
that
which is perhaps the
most typical and iconic pirate stereotype: the black visor.
12 The pirate lord Mistress Ching, present in "At World's End" was
very likely inspired by the true Chinese pirate Cheng I Sao,
which controlled the seas of southern China with his vast fleet of pirates
at the beginning of the XIX century.
13 The production team chose the idyllic Niagara Falls as
location shooting for the scene of the waterfall that appears "in the confines of the
World."
13
14 Keith Richards, legendary guitarist of the Rolling Stones, was
prepared to make a brief appearance as the father of Jack Sparrow in
the first sequel of the saga, but eventually had to abandon the project
due to commitments with the band. When he finally appeared to record
his scenes, he was so drunk that the director Gore Verbinski had to support him so that
he could make it to the end.
15 During the recording of
"At World's End, Johnny
Depp exercised
his vocal talents regularly in
order to prepare for the
character who he would play
in his next movie, "Sweeney
Todd -
The Demon Barber of Fleet
Street. "

While "Scream 4" has not had the expected success, Weinstein has promised
a sequel.
"Scream 4" already in Portuguese cinema exhibition, has not met
expectations of its producers and their fans. Although it received
positive reviews, it has only made half the profits of
"Scream 3". It has made just over 87 million dollars world wide, compared to
the giant $161 million achieved for Scream 3.
The director, Wes Craven, was not very interested in implementing the
film. However, its producer,
Harvey Weinstein said, in
Cannes that he
still expects profits from
"Scream 4", he is so
confident that he expects a
sequel in which also accounts
for direction by Craven. He
added,
still, that Craven had mentioned
plans for "Scream 5 and 6" and
that the
screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, envisioned the trilogy with this
continuity, where the number 4 would take the role of (re) kick-off.
With the same success or not, "Scream 4" has arrived and has intentions to stay!

"The Flintstones," the famous cartoon from the 60s created by Hanna-Barbera will gain
a new version on television, and Seth
MacFarlane will be responsible for animation.
The project has already been worked on for
some time, but there are still many hours of
cartoons to see and besides that the owners
are concerned about MacFarlane’s typical
controversial humor.
Put MacFarlane ahead of such an iconic
animation is risky, but we look forward to
seeing the results of this project.
Out of curiosity, both "The Flintstones" and "Family Guy" are the only cartoons that are
named as possible winners of an Emmy for best comedy series. By: Soraia Marcelo

Production of the film may not
have obtained the conditions
and rights for the
animals that were used in
filming. The movie sequel is
generating a lot of criticism
due to the position taken by its
director Todd Phillips to not
authorize the entrance of the
AHA (American Humane
Association) in the studio
where during the screenings of
the film. This fact inevitably
raises questions about why they have not allowed the entry of a legitimate entity which
is there only to ensure that animals used during the filming not suffer any kind of
18
prejudice or abuse. The director of the film, contrary to what would be expected, did not
considered the endorsement of this association necessary, thus denying them access to
the studios.
As a result, several groups of animal rights advocates reacted negatively; leading this
revolt was the report by the director stating that he had taught the monkey used for the
film how tosmoke. This news was quickly refuted by executives at Warner Brothers,
who made sure that the smoke was added digitally and the Monkey was never actually
smoking. However, this was not enough for the animal rights advocates who argue that
only the use of exotic animals in itself is inadequate, arising great concern.

The scandal that recently rocked the political life of the actor did not affect
his career as an actor. Schwarzenegger
remains a force in the
film world.
With projects under development in the
world of Hollywood, the producers of
Arnold Schwarzenegger believe that the
political scandal that he was the target of
recently will not shake his career as an
actor. The actor is a force in show business
and has several projects and proposals. He will provide the voice to the protagonist of
the new animated series "The Governator," and will participate in the new drama "Cry
Macho" and a fifth "Terminator." The grandeur of his career seems topersuade his
producers of his qualities, leaving them seriously confident in the added value of his
participation. This was just one small passingscandal, as are all scandals.
The series "The Governator" already been sold to several countries. In this,
Schwarzenegger gives voice to a super hero with a double life, secretly fighting crime,
but retains his role as loving and dedicated family man Schwarzenegger is a force!
