MICHAEL’ S CORNER
Welcome to our first MainStage Series event! In addition to an
outstanding line-up of district, community and professional events for
2012/13, we have established a new opportunity for area nonprofits
whose primary mission is to give back to the community through
special projects and services. This new opportunity is called the
Community Partner Initiative. On all of the Mainstage Series events
this season, we are promoting these nonprofit organizations by donating $2.00 from
every ticket sold at their partnership event to help them raise money for their various
projects and services. Some of the groups may also offer raffles or other fundraising
opportunities the day of the event. In addition, each group will have an information table
in the lobby to provide materials or answer questions about their organization.
The purpose of this project is to create public awareness for the service clubs and organi-
zations in the Lake Country area that are dedicated to helping people in our community
and to help raise money for their various projects. Your attendance at any main stage
event this season will go a long way in supporting these wonderful groups.
Tonight we are delighted to partner with Oconomowoc Memorial Auxiliary. I hope you
stopped by their information table and also checked out the raffle packages in the lobby.
If you would like to have an organization considered in the future, please contact me at
the OAC before February 1, 2013 for the 2013/14 season. Thank you for your continuing
support of the OAC.

B IOGR APHIES
Steve BraunSteve is a Milwaukee-based drummer who has played regionally from Minneapolis to Cincinnati and at virtually all points in-between. He was the drummer, both live and on disc, for Liquid Pink, a late-1980s-to-early-1990s alternative group. He was one of the founders of Naked Truth, the WAMI- award winning “Best New Artist of the Year” for 1992. While with those bands, Braun played in the coveted opening act slot for such national and international acts as Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians, Bad Company, Matthew Sweet, The Indigo Girls, and Dream Theater.
Michael FrickePlaying guitar and singing in bands for over twenty years, Michael Fricke started with classic rock and blues and then moved on to punk groups. In the early 1980’s he returned to the roots of rock ‘n’ roll by focusing on rockabilly with both the Beatnix and (later) the Soda Jerks. The latter group was the first local rockabilly band to play many of the major Wisconsin state festivals. During that era, Fricke got to “meet and jam” with Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats and the Brian Setzer Orchestra; the two discussed their mutual musical influences and the similarities between jump swing and rockabilly...which ultimately led to the formation and repertoire of the King Comets.
John SteffesJohn was roped into playing upright bass for King Comets after years of work on bass guitar with such original Milwaukee music bands as Girl Crazy, F.S. Camels, Take My Face, Necromantx, and cover band Brew City Rockers. He met drummer Steve Braun in the group Naked Truth, and they continued their collaboration in the band See Me Ray. Along the way, Steffes was a member of bands opening for such national acts as Bad Company, Matthew Sweet, Smashing Pumpkins, Dream Theater, and the Indigo Girls.
Dennis TomashekThe saxophonist and newest King Comet, Dennis Tomashek, was born and raised in Milwaukee. He has played everything from polkas to big band, jazz, blues and top 40. Dennis performed with local groups such as the Harbor Lights, Surge, Speakeasy, Big Bob and the Ballroom Blitz, Sweetcheeks, the Ron DeVillers Big Band, and the Brewtown Playboys. He has played at many of the major festivals in Milwaukee and Wisconsin and has had gigs with nationally-known musicians such as Gary Puckett, Phil Guy, and Spencer Davis.
