Facts on Kingdom's Downstream Industry The downstream industry in Saudi Arabia is set to receive a boost as

nearly US$28 billion worth of petrochemicals plants come online this year, creating thousands of jobs and diversifying income away from its oil industry.

The Kingdom is determined to maintain its leading position as one of the largest producers of petrochemicals and is aiming to achieve a production capacity of over 100 million tons per annum by the end of 2015 and early start of 2016.

It will see 1.2 million barrels per day (mbpd) of new refining capacity come online by 2020.

In fact, it is the only state in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to allow private investment in the petrochemical sector with several incentives such as affordable energy, low-cost raw materials, and advanced industrial infrastructure, especially in Yanbu.

Safco, an affiliate of SABIC, began pre-commissioning of its new SAfCo 5 plant in Jubail. The plant is designed to produce 1.1 million tons a year of urea. This is a significant development as the plant will be the world's largest carbon capturing plants, consuming 850,000 millions tons a year of carbon dioxide.

Event OverviewSaudi Arabia has identified the downstream hydrocarbon industry as one of the most important engines of growth with $150 billion in its potential investments. However, with low oil prices and the boom in shale gas in the west, its time we start strategizing our decisions for the future.

At the Kingdom Downstream optimisation and Technologies, the focus would be on Process optimisation programs, maximisation of efficiency, feedstock and Catalysts. With the global market becoming ever more competitive, it is imperative for refiners & petrochemical producers to continuously innovate to ensure they can stay ahead of the competition. Hear from refining and global petrochemical technology providers and manufacturers on the latest technologies transforming the market place including methanol to olefins, Low Temperature Sulphur Adsorbents, Aromatics recovery, Converting ethylene And Butadiene To Propylene, Improved furnace optimization, Catalysts Deactivation trends.

With integration playing a key role in remaining competitive in today’s global downstream market, the Kingdom International Downstream Summit has sessions focussing on strategies to stay competitive till 2030.

13:30 The impact of disruptive technologies on O&G downstream organizations

The importance of downstream oil and Gas industry to the economy, both local and global, dictate the urgent need to continually explore technology-based innovative solutions, in order to cope with the endless challenges that the industry has been encountering, specifically those which lead to operational excellence and value chain optimization. In particular we will review technology trends and zoom into disruptive technologies, and explore the potential of technologies such as mobility, analytics and 3-d printing to the current oil & Gas downstream organizations.  As we do that, we do not only seek to be familiarized with the anticipated business gains and perhaps barriers and risks, but also we dare to envisage the future of this important industry taking into considerations the advent of relevant technologies, the dynamics of the market and the varying forces that had traditionally influenced the overall status of the industry.
