Management Report

Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2014/2015 Page 3

Welcome to the Yearbook for 2014/2015 for Kingsgrove Cricket Club. Our 21

st year of juniors and 36

th of seniors saw continued strong registrations and we fielded a total of 21

teams - 15 junior competition teams, two non competition under 8s, two senior competition teams and an over 35 non competition seniors team. In total we had over 250 registered players. In addition, we continued our winter multicultural Milo In 2 Cricket Program with centres at Riverwood and Kingsgrove. A total of 60 participants aged between 5 and 12 from local schools provided the basis of further recruitment for our junior Saturday morning competition teams. On the field the club achieved unprecedented success. In total, 11 teams made the finals series, with five Minor Premierships, eight Grand Finalists, and four Premierships – 16A, 16B, 14A, and 12B Blue. KCC fielded a team in each of the two new Breakers League competitions for female cricketers. This CNSW initiative was designed to get more girls playing cricket by having a female only competition. For our girl players this replaced the Georges River competition. Congratulations to the under 15 team on reaching the Grand Final of their summer competition. Our 16As and 16Bs participated in an experimental mid week T20 evening competition, on turf and under lights at Cahill ParkT tempe. While the Bs won their pool, weather and other factors outside the As’ control meant they did not get to play a game. The club once again entered teams in the Sydney wide junior winter competition. In total, five of our junior teams participated in this outdoor T20 competition, with the under 14A and under 10A teams winning premierships. This winter, we have five teams competing in the same competition. We are proud that the club retains its core values of being family focussed and investing in the development of its junior players. The Club’s strong financial position enables the management team to continue planning for the Club’s future with certainty. The highly successful school recruitment and development programs will continue in the off season. The Club’s playing depth was again highlighted with over 30 players achieving representative honours with Georges River St George Association. In addition, Matthew Iemma, Dilpreete Singh, Caleb Bartier and Ben Panayotopoulos were selected to play Green Shield for St.George. They were joined by Nivek Tanner who gained Green Shield selection with University of New South Wales and Shafique Nouree who was selected in Bankstown’s Green Shield squad. Congratulations to Ben Panayotopoulos who finished as one of the leading run scorers in Green Shield which saw him gain selection in the team of the tournament. Matthew Iemma, Eric Serra, and Ben Panayotopoulos achieved further Representative honours being selected in the under 15, under 14 and under 16 NSW Emerging Blues. Congratulations also to Clara Iemma who gained selection in the under 18 NSW Womens team and participated in several matches with the open age state Women’s team. Morris Iemma coached the Georges River St George under 14 representative team to win the Moore Shield and NSW Championship. Our teams proudly raised over $6,000 for Pink Stumps Day in support of the McGrath Foundation's awareness campaign. Several Kingsgrove teams established fund raising pages with the Foundation and organised morning teas, B.B.Qs and auctions at their matches in February. Special thanks to Kerryn Coldrey from the under 14Cs for her efforts in this area over the past three years. We are indebted to our loyal and generous sponsors whose support has been crucial in placing the Club in a strong financial position to fund our development programs and continue our general activities of providing cricketers with the opportunity to play and learn about cricket. In particular, KCC thanks PAYCE Communities, Lantern Club, Bulldogs Leagues Club, Club Rivers, Daltone House (Sylvania Waters), David Chambers Chartered Accountant, Hotel Macau/Tiger Bar Hurstville, Kingsgrove RSL, Mullanes Pharmacy Oatley, People Practices Australia, Ramsay Health Care, Sunnys Harbour Seafood Restaurant Hurstville. We would like to acknowledge the outstanding effort of the captains, coaches, managers and scorers in organising their sides. Without their contribution we could not field our teams. Thanks to the parents who do the transport of the players each week and provide other support to the teams and club.

Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2014/2015 Page 4

We had many new volunteers coaching, managing, scoring and doing the many other tasks that enabled our teams to function smoothly on the field. These 'new recruits' and our existing network of volunteers and families are the Club's real strength and ensure that our players can pursue their passion for cricket. Special thanks to Bushy Pillay who oversaw coaching of many of our younger teams throughout the season, and coordinated our Milo Cricket program. This year saw our club management more involved at the Association level, with Morris Iemma becoming Vice President and Michael Venn Junior Competition Secretary. We believe it is important that our club is more active in the management of cricket in our area. This is more important since the proposed merger with the St Grade Club did not proceed. Thanks to the Association and the dedicated committee (especially Matt Boland and Danny Williams) for their continued promotion and management of cricket in our area. Everyone appreciates your level of commitment.

Note that thius team started the season in 2nd

Grade but was regraded after Round 3.

The 2014/2015 season was one of transition and development following the departure of many key members in last year’s 2nd Grade squad and the arrival of many new/returning players to KCC. Following the successes of 2013/2014, we entered this season with high expectations. However, a full season in 2

nd Grade

was not to be. Despite a couple of commendable performances, the elusive first win would not be achieved in four attempts and we soon found ourselves chasing victory in 3

rd Grade. As individuals we were definitely

capable as 2nd

Grade players, but a drop to 3rd

Grade proved critical in our development to become a winning team. There were some standout performances in 2

nd Grade that cannot be forgotten. In Rd 1 we saw Mitchell

Carey and Adrian Natoli have a great day with the ball, acquiring figures of 3/30 and 2/28 respectively. In Rd 2, Mohsin Amin took two wickets and went on achieve his highest score (33) the following week as we narrowly missed our first win of the season. Our final session in 2

nd Grade saw Mitchel Redston take his best

bowling figures of the season with 1/15. Although conceding to a loss in our first 3

rd Grade match, Gibran Khan and Clint Kitchen demonstrated why

they would be disciplined wicket takers throughout the season; both with figures of 3/9. Michael Vitale swapped his keeping gloves for a position in the bowling line up that same match and took impressive figures of 2/22 with some aggressive bowling. Our first win of the season came in the following round against BHE. Impressive spells from Clint Kitchen (3/21), Gibran Khan (2/17), and Dylan Venn (3/3) provided the team with a strong platform to chase the 135 run target. Mathew Hanscombe (51) and Shehraiz Awan (44*) sealed the victory with the bat as we recorded a score of 4/137. Despite losses in the following three rounds, there were many performances to remember before the summer break. Mohammad Shams took season best figures of 2/29 against BEL and Dylan Venn scored his career highest score of 63 against RAM. Against BEL, Mathew Hanscombe recorded his highest score of the season (73); following half centuries in the previous two matches. Scoring 285 runs across both 2

nd and 3

rd

Grade, Mathew was undoubtedly the batsman of the season. The second match of 2015 was the beginning of a turn in form and saw the result of the team’s determination to become regular winners. Against the division leaders DLS (undefeated at the time), we delivered the ultimate team performance. Despite posting a relatively low total of 127, each of the top order batsmen contributed; particularly Liam Mountford who recorded a season highest score of 37. In order to defend 127 against such a strong opposition, each of the seven bowlers called upon pulled their weight with economical spells to restrict DLS to 100. Wickets were taken by six Kingsgrove bowlers, with special mention to Gibran Khan (4/7) taking his season best figures. Our closest match of the season came in the next round against ICC Green. Batting first, we were led by an inspiring innings from Angelo Drakopoulos (67*) to a total of 6/200. Defending this total proved more difficult than expected as we dismissed ICC for 197 with four balls remaining in the match for a narrow victory. After missing the first 11 rounds, Kushal Shirodkar arrived at the perfect time to display some individual brilliance in the field; crucially taking three catches and two run outs. The final match of 2014/2015 could be seen as the most significant; concluding a resurgent second half of the season with an outright victory. A dominant bowling performance from Jake Redston (4/18 and 3/8)

proved why he was the pick of the bowlers this season, taking a total of 21 wickets across both 2nd

and 3rd

Grades. As we saw for most of the season, Shehraiz Awan was the all-round performer of the match after scoring 74 runs and taking two wickets. Despite a string of wins to end the season, we would unfortunately fall short of a finals position by four points. Considering the way we started the season, it was great to see the team develop together over the year. Overall, we had an entertaining season with a team full of great people. Captaining a cricket side for the first time was definitely a learning experience, so my thanks goes out to the senior players for their guidance. A special mention must also go to Michael Venn, Joe Vitale, and Frank Natoli for scoring and sub-fielding throughout the year. I’m sure Joe enjoyed putting the gloves back on a few times and taking a catch off his son Michael’s bowling. Hopefully we see everyone return to the club next season to continue what we started in 2015. It may have taken a few weeks to make it work, but based on our recent form, and with a bit of confidence, this is a team capable of great things next season. Raffaele Francone 3

Over 35's

Well another over 35’s season is behind us and the Kingsgrove continued our mostly winning ways. We are still getting used to not having some old and familiar faces around, but that has not stopped us from having fun, and a beer or two. Unfortunately, scheduling issue meant we could not hold our now traditional father and son game. Hopefully we will get it together next season, and get some of those girls along as well. If our bodies hold up over winter we’ll do it all again next season. So if you’re over 35 and interested in a game of cricket one Sunday a month through the season you’re most welcome to join us (speak to Michael Venn). It’s lots of fun, and plenty of laughs. After the game we have a few beers and we’re the only team in the competition with a BBQ and cook! Until next year. The 13

This season would be the last season as juniors for many boys of the U/16As. Having been close in previous seasons the boys looked determined from the beginning of the season to leave the Club with a Premiership. We played well during our round matches, with outstanding performances from Ben Panaytopoulos regularly putting us into leading positions. The Team worked well together to grind oppositions into submission with some outstanding bowling and fielding. The Grand Final saw us in an unfamiliar position of having to chase down a formidable total. The boys showed why they were Minor Premiers and kept Penshurt West to 146 from 59 overs. Our innings started well, and at 1/41 were in the box seat. But chasing any total can be difficult, and with a mid order collapse it was left to Caleb Bartier and Jason Quach to knock a bulk of the runs off before Sebastien Ferreira, as Captain of the team for a number of years saw us home with Caleb for our first premiership for Kingsgrove. Caleb Bartier: Another naturally talented star, I called on Caleb to do some of the tough jobs with bat and ball this season, he shows ability and maturity well above his age. Ryan Betbeder-Matibet: Wicket keeper, batsman with power and equal flair who can bowl! Yes Ryan can do it all! His Keeping this year was exceptional, having a large change in pace and bounce to deal with. Adrian Bosanac: Top Order Batsman who can grind and hit with the power of David Warner when required. Adrian has unlimited potential to progress with his attitude. Benjamin Ferreira (VC): Grinding top order batsman who bowls fast:medium pace. Batted with patience and determination, often involved in critical partnerships. Sebastien Ferreira (Capt): Has developed as a true Captain and tactician, often making critical decisions on the field that turned the tide of the game. As a Coach, could not be prouder! Costan Griziotis: Right top order batsman who on his day can destroy any attack to any part of the ground. His bowling is under estimated and often shocks the opposition. Ben Panaytopoulos (VC): Top order batsman who can bowl everything, his appearances for St George Grade will be just the start for Ben. Supremely talented. Jason Quach: His story this season is remarkable, coming to Kingsgrove after being left out by PW. He made us proud and the opposition sorry. Jason batted with determination and confidence that you rarely see on any cricket field. Dilprete Singh: Naturally talented all rounder who can hit as hard and bat thoughtfully when required. Bowls with natural pace, and is entertaining to watch. Jaideep Singh: Like his cousin, another naturally talented cricketer who took vital wickets and bowled amazing spells for us during the season. None better than the GF! Jeremy Vanos: Talented right hand batsman, who's fluid stroke play is a delight to watch in full flight. His improving spin is increasingly hard to pick and play.

Cameron Whicker: Opening Bowler, bowled with pace and skill this year that was often too good for the opposition. Also played a 1st Grade Park GF in his first full Season. Danial Houghton, Shafiq Nouree, Nicholas Bosanac and a number of Kingsgrove U/14 players helped us play and fill gaps this season. We would like to thank them for their performances and assistance they provided to us. To have coached some of these boys from U10s through a couple of clubs and districts to end up with the fantastic team has been a privilege. The Grand Final Victory was just reward for all the hard work the players have put in over a long period of time. I'd like to thank all the parents and friends who helped out this season, Peter Bartier, Basil Panaytopoulos, Joe Bosanac, Isabel Ferreira and everyone who supported us over the years. 16B. A successful season by a terrific group of young guys. We started the season with 17 players for this team and lost our first two games as a consequence of the team finding its feet and coming together as a group. We soon found that the core of the team were those guys that were always at training and their performances on the field started to bring good results and good team bonding and we went into the Christmas break having won all our games after the early losses. Early in 2015 we were down to a team of 11 players and we confirmed our place in the grand final with more good cricket and good wins whilst also winning the 20/20 mid-week competition. The grand final against MHT was our best bowling and fielding effort all year and we peaked at the right time. We had the opposition out for 79 in 42 overs and every one of the 11 players on the day performed well and our top order batsmen showed great patience to give us a comfortable win. We ultimately chased the runs in 31 overs having lost only two wickets. Great season guys and well done on winning the competition. I hope you had fun along the way, I enjoyed being part of it. Special thanks to Frank Natoli for his support throughout the year which was invaluable for me and the team. Momin Ali: 105 runs @10.50; 9 wickets @ 8.56 Momin was one of our two wicketkeepers and our lucky charm. A shrewd wickie and a good cricket thinker, Momin this year makes it four Grand Final wins in a row! Bowled well but opportunities were limited due to sharing the wicket keeping. Highlight this year was a 5/25 in Rd 7 against MHT and a score of 48 in Rd 12 against ICC. Gavin Bardossi: 251 runs @ 19.31; 8 wickets @ 10.50 Great all round year Gav. A couple of unlucky dismissals late in the season otherwise could have scored over 300. Had the second highest run aggregate. Some mixed bowling performances but when on bowling quick and straight was unplayable. Led the catches taken and run-outs for the team and always reliable in the field. Highlight was a 62 off 34 balls in Rd 1 against SHCP which included six fours and two sixes. Nick Billiris: 126 runs @ 14.00; 10 wickets @ 24.00 Who knew about Nick’s leg spin bowling – his efforts were critical in the last couple of matches and in the grand final where he bowled 7 overs 2/ 12. Best bowling 4/2 in Rd 2 against ICC and an ‘almost’ hat-trick in that same game. Always solid at gully taking some good catches and consistent efforts with the bat including a 27* in Rd 3 against ICC. Thomas Cherian: 28 runs @ 5.60; 8 wickets @ 10.38 Terrific, positive team player who played cricket in the right spirit all year. Bowling was the highlight for Tom. Very underestimated and economical bowler who tied down an end and could have finished the year with a few more wickets with a bit of luck. Always reliable and a strong fielder at point. Highlight was a fantastic 2/7 off 7 overs in the Grand Final. Tanzeel Iftikhar 300 runs @30.00; 12 wickets @ 17.83 The team captain and overall all rounder leading the aggregate for the team in runs scored and wickets taken. A talented batsman whose batting improved as the year went on with good scores when we need it most including a very patient and skilful 40 in the grand final to secure the win. Took the most wickets for our team with some terrific bowling spells. Overall Tanzeel led the team well.

Jordon Le Breux: 94 runs @ 11.75; 10 wickets @ 16.10 Jordan was our opening bowler and handled the responsibility very well with some fantastic opening spells and took ten wickets at a good economy rate per over for the season. Grand final was a highlight getting us off to a good start and ultimately 6 overs for 7 runs. Some good batting scores throughout the season including a patient 24 against MHT in Rd 4. Very quick in the field and took some solid catches. Christian Moustakas 131 @ 43.67; 10 wickets @ 5.30 Missed a few games due to school cricket but was a valuable contributor when available especially with the ball with a great average and economy rate. Did well at first slip taking five catches in that position. Highlight was the grand final bowling out the opposition key batsman and figures of 5 overs, 2/3. A patient 46 in Rd 11 was his highlight with the bat. Saleh Nadeem 61 runs @ 15.25; 9 wickets @ 15.67 Every team has a joker and ours was Saleh. Seemed to be having too much fun all the time. Bowled very well throughout the year and when it counted and was our go to spin bowler. Batting improved in the new year and was a solid opener in the last few rounds and in the Grand F.inal. Highlight was a great defensive batting effort in the Grand Final where he opened and remained 17*. Moiz Shah 248 runs @ 24.80; 3 wickets @ 21.33 Moiz is a talented batsman who had consistent batting performances throughout the year. A couple of games didn’t go his way otherwise both batting average and aggregate would have been far stronger. Highlight was a 65 in Rd 5 against SHCP. Very strong fielder who at times covered both mid on and mid off and took some important catches. Bowled well when given opportunity. Tristan Shrestha 81 runs @ 9.00 A most improved player whose efforts grew and grew as the season went on. Tristan was the heart of this team and always gave 100%. Moved up the batting order in the latter stages of the season and capped it off with a highlight 24 runs in Rd 12 against ICC. Worked hard for the team in the field and always willing to put his body on the line. George Tasaktsoglou: 186 runs @ 23.25; 4 wickets @ 4.25 A strong and reliable batsman George had a couple of soft and unlucky dismissals kept which kept his batting aggregate down for this year. Batting highlight was a 52* in Rd 8 against SHCP. George is always thinking and looking for opportunities in the field and did his normal good job behind the stumps sharing the responsibility with Momin. Some limited bowling opportunities. KCC registered a under 15 all girls cricket team in the Breakers Junior Cricket League in season 2014/2015, which consisted teams from the south west suburbs of Sydney. The competition consisted of a Spring season October/December and a Summer season January/March. We played our T20 format games on Saturday afternoons from 2.00 to 4.30pm Our team consisted of girls that played on Saturday morning and some that were new to our club: Angela Aiken, Mariam Bank, Rebecca Daher, Jade Errington, Caitlin Murray, Lauren Quach, Mishal Shah, Latisha Shirwan, Christiana Sims, Tamsyn Solomons, Shajneen Tasnim, Elly Wedgewood, Catherine Wilson. After leading in the early stages of both the Spring and Summer competitions we finished 4th in both competitions. I am so proud of our girls you were a credit to our club in both competitions. Some of the girls also played in the under 13 Mollie Dive and under 15 Margaret Pedan representative carnival at Manly Vale in January 2015. The Mollie Dive team didn't make the final series and the Margaret Pedan team lost the Final by a few runs. My thanks go to Paul Quach, Mark Wedgewood (umpiring) special thanks to both Lisa Sims (Scorer) & Jim Shah (coach) all very much appreciated. Well done girls, hope to see you all return in season 2015/2016 Denis King Manager

The 2014/2015 season saw the third bi-seasonal reuniting of this group of players. The season started with a hiccup, but the team then went from strength to strength, the first match proving to be their only loss of the season. They asserted their dominance from the beginning, with all 13 players earning representative honours this season. With nine half centuries, three centuries, nine 3 or 4 wicket hauls including one hat trick, there were plenty of individual highlights this season. It is also worth noting that more than half the players were first year 14s:- the most of any team in the competition. The season concluded with the overwhelmingly convincing grand final win against old rivals, PWS. A fitting way to celebrate coach Adam Scott's 21

st consecutive year of coaching for KCC.

2014/2015 proved to be an outstanding season for the 14As, not only because of their combined dominance on the pitch, or because of the incredible individual achievements, but mainly because of the way the team mates played for each other, got along together and enjoyed sharing their love of the game. Examples of this include: Cooper, who broke his hand during a match, tragically ruling him out of any further games (including the grand final) who continued to come to every match (and most training sessions!) to support his team mates; Alex who stayed at the crease for 1hr 20min for a breathtaking last wicket stand to ensure his captain, Matthew, was able to reach his maiden century; Nivek, who travelled by train to get to training every week; and the numerous players who couldn't wait to help out in the field when the opposition was short, or to take a turn at scoring. A season to be proud of and I know both the players and their parents look forward to the next time they are reunited. Lachlan Bogar: 275 runs @ 25; 20 wicket keeper dismissals Consistency plus, Lachlan stepped up and led when it was required most this season. Scoring two half centuries with a high score of 64, taking nine wicket keeper catches, five stumpings and six run out assists, he even bowled an over with figures of 1/11. Harrison Crowe: 47 runs @ 9.4; 10wickets @ 8.6 A natural athlete who can bat, bowl, field and wicket keep! With a high score of 37, two catches, one stumping, one run out and best bowling of 4/12 including a hat trick which claimed four of the top five batsmen in our main rival’s team! Tavish Humphreys-Jones: 111 runs @ 13.88; 2 wickets @ 33 With a high score of 27, Tavish plays with conviction and knows how to bat for the best outcome for the team. With best bowling of 1/8, and an impressive season in the field with 7 catches and one run out, he is a true all-rounder. Clara Iemma: 89 runs @ 29.67; 2 wickets @ 20.5 Clara's short, but impressive season began when she returned to fill in due to an injury after completing her representative commitments. Being warmly welcomed back, she high scored with 53* and had best bowling figures of 1/5. Matthew Iemma: 338 runs @ 37.56; 13 wickets @ 11.08 Proving to be a formidable player with both bat and ball, Matthew achieved both a half century and century, top scoring on 102*. With best bowling of 3/20, three catches and an amazing 26 maiden overs, but most impressive was the improvements he made in his scoring abilities with pencil and paper!

Billy Konstas: 243 runs @ 40.50; 5 wickets @21.2 A very impressive all-rounder and seriously passionate competitor, with the best performance of the “baby 14s” this season, Billy high scored with two not out 50s, and showed great consistency with the bat throughout the season. He had his best bowling figures of 2/3, four catches and two run outs. Alex Lacorcia: 14 runs @ 7; 6 wickets @ 23 With best bowling figures of 2/26, 2 catches and one run out, the numbers don't do his fielding prowess due justice. Alex's highlight performance was his 1hr20min last wicket stand showing faultless defence to protect his wicket long enough for his batting partner to achieve a century. Cooper Miles: 141 runs @ 28.2; 9 wickets @ 10.11 With a high score of 62, best bowling of 4/9, four catches and one run out Cooper had a great start to a season that was devastatingly cut short when he broke his hand fielding a ball. His relentless spirit and energy remained a constant as he supported his team from beyond the boundary for the rest of the season. Billy Salameh: 103 runs @ 17.17 Billy’s boundless enthusiasm and positivity was a constant support for his team mates. He high scored with 29* in a splendid opening partnership, took four catches and three run outs this season, and tested his hand with the score book for the first time. Lachlan Scott: 6 runs @ 1.5; 10 wickets @ 13 His “deceptively slow” bowling proved to be very effective again this season, with best bowling of 3/16, and also taking two catches and one run out. Lachlan takes everything in his stride with amazing resilience and an irrepressible enthusiasm for cricket. Eric Serra: 157 runs @ 22.43; 1 wicket @ 92 Eric high scored this season with an impressive 47 which consisted of running seven 3s on an incredibly slow out field which probably robbed him of a 50. With best bowling of 1/19, two catches and two run outs, he is a serious cricketer who fully committed himself to his team. Talhah Tahir: 50 runs @ 16.67; 11 wickets @ 26.09 A bowler who instilled fear in all who faced his all-out pace attack, with best bowling of 3/4, plus one catch and one run out. Talhah, or Taz as he has been nick-named, worked hard on his batting this season and it payed off with a high score of 31*. Nivek Tanner: 521 runs @ 86.83; 12 wickets @ 38.5 An absolute powerhouse with the bat, scoring three half centuries and two centuries, high scoring on 103*, with an incredible 51 fours along the way, Nivek still managed to show restraint, poise and discipline. With best bowling of 3/8 and five catches, you couldn't ask for more from a player! Adam Scott and Sara Jones Coach and Manager

It would not be far fetched to call this season one of the great Houdini acts of modern times! Our side was persistently under pressure. First for being initially placed in 14Cs on the Association Grading Night, but after insistent pleading we were graded in 14Bs. Every game, we often starred straight ahead at defeat. Yet we never panicked, never gave in or assumed that there wasn’t a way out. The team came back from many moments of adversity and took up the challenge in every match. No situation was lost and victory was not hoped for. It was expected. The side regrouped on many occasions and contained players who took their turn to lead the team to victory. The team had no ego and took its joy from simply winning. We managef to get all the way to the Grand Final. In the finals the nerves got the better of us. Our Batting did not click and we lost a well fought Grand Final. Through out the season, our bowling was definitely our strength, Shaun Shah, Alex Conneely. Rashed El-Hassan, Oliver Costa, Mishal Shah, Tamysn Solomons, Semela Angelides, Umer Dar, Sundais Khan and Mariam Bank. Not to forget Radwan El-Hassan and Luca Tamba (our main keeper) also bowled and formed a strong outfit that would regularly take early wickets, decimate middle orders and clean up tails. We expected that much, that we were shocked when we saw a partnership over 50! As mentioned there were plenty of positives to come out of the season. Everyone in the team had admirable qualities and committed individuals. They were good listeners and were always willing to take advice on where they can improve. They had tremendous respect for me and for each other. I would personally like to thank players for their efforts and attitude at training and on game day. It made my job easier knowing we were headed in the same direction. As mentioned before, this season had many highs and great memories. My thanks to all the volunteers who helped with fruit run and scoring. To the parents, grandparents and siblings who supported the team throughout. Special thanks to Denis King for being the team manager and for his administrative efforts. Omer, Colm, Sam, Anthony, Denis and Evie for helping me coach the team; during training and matches all season. Rohini, for helping with transport. Bank, Dar, Conneely, El-Hassan, Costa, Solomans, Tamba, Angelides and Khan family for being there and applauding the team. There are many to thank I hope I did not forget anyone. Semela Angelides: Semela Contributed throughout with vital runs and important wickets. Was always outstanding in the field. A high quality competitor, happy to play whatever role required. Mariam Bank: Mariam had a few rock solid opening stands and scored lot of runs playing straight. She is also a quality fielder with endless energy. Mariam was good under pressure. She manufactured some match winning innings.

Alexander Conneely: Alex had a great season leading the attack, with a beautiful wrist action for a quick. He also has a brutal inswinging Yorker, which took important top order scalps. Alex showed he is not slouch with the bat either, with his first 50 this season. As for the next season… bring it on. Oliver Costa: Oliver formed a great batting combination with Alex to get few big partnerships. Oliver certainly showed he a dominant player in the seasons to come. He is the quickest bowler in the team. Oliver was also a versatile wicket keeper who took some outstanding catches during the season and kept very well to the spinners. Umar Dar: Umar was our class act as middle order batsman. Once he found time in the middle he was our most destructive batsman. He scored some quick 50s. He was good in dominating attacks. Radwan El-Hassan: Radwan is a man of steel. Unflappable. A talent. Could be a good test player. He didn’t score as heavily as he would like but was always contributing in some significant way. His catching at third man was consistently brilliant. Rashed El-Hassan: Rashed with a new trick to his armory, the art of swing bowling. His ability to knock over right-handers with late inswing created havoc in the opposition. Rashed not only took wickets and made runs, he also played match-winning roles in our final against Kingsgrove Blue to get the team across the line. Sundais Khan: At mid season Sundais import from 14C was a major factor in building scores of significance a number of times. Sundais competitive nature brought us hope in the final rounds. Mishal Shah: I make no secret of my admiration for the art of leg spin. Mishal is a true partnership breaker. She took many wickets when we needed them most. Watch out next season. Shaun Shah: Shaun was his usual outstanding this season. The highest in number of runs scored. A fantastic year from a real team player, he was always happy to perform any role that suited the side best. Tamysn Solomons: Tammy is always a positive influence around the team. She has a great love for the game of cricket. She always held up her end to stave off defeat while she produced swashbuckling innings when required in another. Her nagging medium pacers proved difficult to get away. Luca Tamba: Luca played number of important knocks throughout the season. His wicket keeping was a highlight and showed that he has fantastic natural ability and high potential. He is real tough competitor and he set up wins against a few teams. Najim Shah Coach

We performed strongly throughout the season and were Minor Premiers yet in the Final against MHT, the occasion was a bit too much for the boys and we fell short for the 2

nd year in a row...as they say “Catches

Win Matches” and the many grassed chances probably cost us the title…perhaps we will employ a sports psychologist ahead of next year’s final. Great mix of players (new, returning, experienced, and enthusiastic players) who performed really well and who enjoyed their cricket and each other’s company…generally a pleasure to work with! William Aleksovsk: 114 runs @ 14.25; 19 wickets @ 5.00 Returning member to the team who spearheaded our bowling attack with some devastating bowling spells. Needs to work harder with the bat and in the field to fulfill his true potential. Hard work and more confidence with the bat will deliver the goods for you. Marcus Alex: 173 runs @ 19.22; 6 wickets @ 20.5 A devastating batsman who could score quickly and setup the team for a good innings though shot selection and impatience worked against him. Bowled some amazing balls yet requires more consistency. Always a great member of the team. Concentration is key to fulfill your potential. Ethan Angelis: 204 runs @ 29.14; 7 wickets @ 16.00 Ethan led by example with the bat and scored a 50 and a safe pair of hands in the field. His bowling was a little below par and was unlucky on many occasions. A very capable player who will improve with more confidence. A leading all-rounder with potential for greater results. Daniel Castagnone: 213 runs @ 30.43; 8 wickets @ 11.3 He was our leading run getter with some swashbuckling innings and a very handy bowler. Good in the field and Daniel is a pleasure to have in the team and valuable contributor. Keep up the good work.

Kobee Haereroa: 207 runs @ 34.5; 19 wickets @ 5.63 Kobee was a standout player who contributed significantly with bat, ball & in the field. He is a natural leader with plenty of ability across all disciplines (leading all-rounder) and is capable at higher standard. Keep at it and set yourself higher goals – you can go all the way! Nicholas Iocco: 56 runs @ 7.00; 4 wickets @ 27.00 He often formed a solid opening partnership with Marcus and setting up the team for a good score. Bowled some tidy spells and was steady in the field. Nicholas missed a lot of training and it probably impacted on his performances throughout the year. Build on your solid base and shine next year! Omar Kharrl: 51 runs @ 5.67; 7 wickets @ 10.00 Omar is potentially a run-scoring machine yet his shot selection lets him down and is definitely capable of doing more. His leg-breaks were a revelation this year and something he needs to keep on working on. With improved confidence and shot selection Omar can score more runs and those crafty leg-spins hold much promise – keep practising. Minghao Mo: 28 runs @ 4.67; 6 wickets @ 21.00 Ming was new to the team and brought great enthusiasm especially in the field with his slides! He offered some important performances, especially that stubborn 17* against MHT. He contributed some handy bowling spells and got some crucial wickets. Absolute pleasure to have you in the team and please keep practising – you will improve and make the family proud.

Trishen Pillay: 35 runs @ 5.00; 13 wickets @ 7.31 As a bowling all-rounder who was often called upon to close out innings and slow down the run rate…he delivered the goods. His canny swing & spin bowling had batsmen shaking their heads. Exceptional fielder with a baseball-like throwing arm and a steady batsman made Trishen an important member of the team. Great to have you in the team and back yourself with the bat – you’ll be surprised! Karl Sheppard: 38 runs @ 5.43; 7 wickets @ 19.9 Only in his second year of cricket and Karl improved across all disciplines. He contributed positively with bat, ball & fielding and will only get better. Your improvements this year were outstanding and so keep practicing and you will achieve greater results. Daniel Tait: 67 runs @ 16.75; 4 wickets @ 13.00 Daniel was only with us for the first half of the season however he was a very handy cricketer. Some great bowling & batting performances and you were missed. Hope you keep playing cricket in your new area – you are more than capable! Alessandro Tilocca: 83 runs @ 9.22; 4 wickets @ 17.80 Alessandro’s contributed some solid batting performances with good starts yet needs to build on these. He donned the gloves this year and performed really well which meant his bowling forays were limited yet picked up some important wickets. He enjoys his cricket and playing with his mates. With some more application you can score more runs – believe! Noah Vass: 58 runs @ 6.44; 3 wickets @ 40.70 Noah was also new to the club and our team. With greater concentration & application he is capable of so much more – a very handy cricketer, great team member and hope to see you next year. Focus, practice & you will enjoy improved results – YEP! Mitchell Westley: 15 runs @ 1.88; 11 wickets @ 10.5 Mitchell was our goto bowler to break stubborn partnerships – he always came up trumps! Good talker and always encouraging team to do walk-in, bowl straight etc. Quiet season with bat but offered up some good rear-guard innings. Great team player and keep delivering the bowling goods. SPECIAL THANKS – to Kerryn Coldrey (Team Manager) for keeping us organised. Ravi Pillay for his meticulous scoring and to Ric Castagnone for assisting with training, games and for overall positive encouragement. Angelo Tilocca Coach

Our season began slowly with four losses and only one win. We were outplayed in a lot of these games. Some individual highlights included the all-round play of Sundais Khan – with three wickets in Rd 1, and scores of 18, 29 and a dominant 50 in Rd 5. Rehan Lateef emerged as a handy bowler – in Rd 4 and Rd 5 picking up identical figures of four overs, 2/13. Rd 5 – a loss to RAM - was highlighted by a sturdy ten runs with the bat and a wicket by Jayden Foon, as well as 17 for Nivodh Senevirante. From this point the team became more competitive - improvement coming mainly on the back of a commitment to catching, throwing and fielding. Rd 6 versus KCC BLUE saw a good all round team performance highlighted by Imran Lateef with three overs 1/9 and 12 runs with the bat. The game was a two wicket loss on 1st innings. Christian Dunne became our main wicket keeper at this time and made a huge difference behind the stumps, taking catches and seeing sundries almost halved in each game. Rd 7 versus MHT was again a competitive 11 run loss. This game highlighted Jack Nicolau’s value as our all rounder – with 17 runs off the bat and bowling figures of 3.1 overs 3/7 – plus his trademark wicket-taking celebrations. Rd 8 was the last game before the Christmas break and was a very welcome outright victory versus RAMe. The 1st innings win was built on Maaz Shah’s very patient innings of 27, with the winning runs hit by Serhan Segitmen as part of his score of 8. Rd 9 was a narrow two wicket loss to KCC Blue – highlighted by 30 runs from Jim Kouts and Jacob Pratley’s outstanding 8 overs, 4 maidens 3/4. Rd 10 was a loss to MHT that featured a whirlwind innings of 55 by Maaz Shah. Jacob Pratley bowled very well for 7 overs 4/10 – his best return of the season – and established him firmly as the #1 strike bowler on the team. With his accurate stump to stump bowling he ended the season with 21 wickets at an average of 5.57, which was outstanding. Rd 11 was a dominant performance versus RAM built on the back of Jim Kouts solid 27 with the bat and a William Huang-Hudson cameo of three wickets with the ball. We got a first innings win and narrowly missed an outright innings victory by four runs. Nivodh Senevirante again provided bowling that tied the batsmen down with figures of 4 overs 2/8. The players were outstanding in the field – all seven catching chances taken, plus a direct hit runout – again! – by Imran Lateef. With no semis ahead, the last game versus KCC Blue was our ‘final’. We entered the game without our two leading batsmen. After losing six wickets in the first 14 overs Patrick Smith and Jake Hilton came together for a 45 run partnership. Jake top scored with 13. Those two then featured as spinners opening the bowling – both picking up wickets – with Patrick following up with his leg spinners on day 2 with two wickets in one over. This put Pat as the #2 wicket taker on the team with 11. At the end of the day the team needed 20 runs for a win on the 10th wicket. Christian Dunne – who stayed at the crease for 30 overs and a score of 11 – paired with Jacob Pratley. Showing incredible patience they got the winning runs on Christian’s leg glance - securing a good win to end the season. 14C Green was a terrific team to coach and manage. Players got equal playing time as much as possible and all responded with good performances. Over rates were good and the team improved as the season progressed. Scott and Steve thank the players and their families. Steve Dunne and Scott Hilton Coach and Manager

The under 12A team had an enjoyable and successful season finishing runners up. This was an outstanding effort considering we gave away age and experience to most of our opponents. It agurs well for going “one better” next season. Everyone should be very proud of their efforts over the course of the season. Well done team! The competition rounds saw the team finish a creditable 3

rd with four wins and four losses. The undoubted

highlight being a comprehensive second round victory over eventual Premiers PWS- 10/57 v 5/86. Qualification for the finals series meant a first up sudden death semi against the vastly improved ICC. This provided another highlight with the team producing a dominant performance, 7/165 v 10/95, to comfortably account for ICC This was particularly pleasing as only one week earlier we had managed a meagre 60 runs in being thrashed by ICC Victory over ICC meant a preliminary final against the highly fancied South Hurstville and the opportunity to qualify for a place in the Grand Final. This match proved to be the season highlight with the team prevailing in a remarkable one wicket victory. Day 1 saw South Hurstville win the toss and elect to bat in overcast, cool and wet conditions. The innings began sensationally with South Hurstville’s first three batters all being dismissed for ducks. They were eventually dismissed for 61, a tough but achievable target. Day 2 began just as sensationally for South Hurstville, with our first three batters also being dismissed for ducks! What would the odds have been on the first three batters in both teams all failing to score? Wickets continued to tumble in the wet and difficult conditions. Suddenly, we were a precarious 8/41 and facing almost certain defeat. Then a magnificent and courageous tail end fight back saw us home by one wicket, courtesy also of several wides and no balls. Earning the right to play off against PWS for the Premiership decider was just reward for a lot of hard work and application on the part of all players over the course of the season. After the heroics and drama of the preliminary final against South Hurstville, the Grand Final was something of an anti-climax. Although the team fought hard and never gave up, PWS were just too good on the day. Batting first on day one we did not take advantage of a solid start. The team slumped from 1/32 to 10/72. This inexplicable collapse was compounded by failing to take several chances in the field on day 2. The outcome could have been very different had these regulation chances been accepted. Nevertheless, the team fought hard and forced PWS to bat 33 overs to secure their victory target. I would like to thank all the parents for their patience, understanding and support throughout the year. In particular, the assistance provided at training with drills, match day warm ups, transport and scoring. A very fine group of parents who provided excellent support to the team and coach. Note than KCC White and PWS White were 10A teams playing in this higher grade. They did not participate in the 12B Semis, Preliminary and Gand Finals.

I was assigned the job of coaching the 12B Blues Team at the beginning of the season. Our team is best described as combination of siblings/cousins and ex-teammates from the under 10s in the previous season. It was evident from very early on in the season that we were a formidable bowling side and pretty competitive batting team whose batting line-up extended deep down the order to include most of the bowlers. We became confident in our ability to defend any total, and as the season progressed we sometimes found ourselves having to dig in on the batting front and we managed to do that quite comfortably to rescue some games. This culminated in a very successful season on the field where we lost only one game to our fellow club team KCC 10A (who were playing in our comp). We finished a close second on the ladder and progressed to the finals, which undoubtedly were the highlight of our season. Semi Final 1 v STJ: This was a gripping contest fought over two days. At the conclusion of day one, the game was slightly in Riverwood’s favour who 2-90 as opposed to us been 5-88. On resumption the next day, our overnight batsmen added another 50 runs plus, to rescue our innings and put the game on a path out of reach of the opposition. Eventually we concluded our innings on 7/174 and bowled the opposition out for 126. Grand Final v BHE: Another nail biting affair fought until the end. We lost the toss and were sent in by the opposition. At the conclusion of our 1st quarter we were in a slight spot of bother on 6/79.We took the field and put in a solid bowling performance that restricted the opposition to 2/59. This was backed up again the next day with another solid performance to have the opposition at 7/129. This set the stage for a grand finale and what a finale it was. Our overnight batsmen proceeded to methodically and calmly chase down the total, single after single and two after two with the odd boundary thrown in, until eventually the finish line was within our grasp. At this point the parents from the side line were gripped with excitement which became more evident as we lost our two heroes, and had under 10 runs to chase with three wickets in hand. We managed to chase the total without losing any more wickets and a few overs to spare as well as a crescendo of cheers and happiness from the sideline. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the parents, most of who turned up every week to watch the kids, especially Alvin So for being our main scorer and Asim Haris and Kim Pratley who ably filled in. I would also like to thank Kevin El-Hassan for been the manager and the other parents who would pick up and drop off any kids that needed a lift on game or training day. It was a team effort by everyone. I am pleased to report that this was an extremely satisfying season for me and I hope that I imparted some of my cricket knowledge onto the kids. I hope to see most of you next season and for those of you not returning, I wish you the best in your future cricket endeavours. Omar El-Hassan Coach

The majority of 12B Green were debutants this summer, parents included!! With on field experience lacking, our season started slowly. Numerous defeats, then finally a win in Rd 5 v ICC. The boys held on at nine wickets down to claim victory with four overs to spare. The team was ecstatic! This resulted with an injection of confidence and general improvement throughout the squad for the second half of the season. Rd 7 saw a massive 73 run triumph against RAM at Oatley Park - More confidence!! We then finished the season on a high with more success, this time against South Hurstville/Carss Park. Thomas and Alex put together a 52 run batting partnership and carried the team home to victory. With a season of ups and downs, it definitely was a learning experience, both on and off the pitch. Some new friendships were formed and the boys had fun, which was a small victory in itself. Thank you Tony Alesci for coaching the team and Bushy Pillay for working on technique with all of the boys. Thank you to everyone who assisted behind the scenes - Joanna for scoring most games, and Jane also. Rob Sherwood (Alex’s grandfather) for ensuring the batsmen were in order and kitted up. We missed you during the New Year!! Also, dads such as Joe, Nathan and Shane for assisting at training and umpiring. Adam Alesci: 120 runs @17.14; 7 wickets @ 17.57 Adam is a player with batting potential, who sees the ball well and plays some tidy shots, both defensive and attacking. Adam hit 42 runs to help claim victory against Ramsgate at Oatley Park. Decent and consistent bowling made Adam quite economical in some games, bowling more than a few maiden overs and even taking three wickets for only one run back in Rd 2 against BHE at Oatley Park. Anthony Alexis: 3 wickets @ 10 Sometimes the bat looked bigger than Anthony, but still, he was never afraid when the time came. Anthony definitely showed improvement over the last six months, especially with his bowling. When handed the ball, Anthony certainly produced some quality deliveries, which was impressive, considering he’s the youngest and smallest player in the team. Emmanuel Alexis: 17 runs @ 2.43; 4 wickets @ 27.5 Like his younger brother, Emmanuel’s improvement was evident as the season progressed. Unlucky not to score more runs, but the potential is there. A reliable bowler, and reasonably economical in most games bar one. Best of all Emmanuel has great team spirit. Positive, friendly and supportive. Aareez Ali: 22 runs @2.75; 3 wickets @ 40.33 A distinctive bowling technique which evolved throughout the summer. Aareez took one of the best catches of the season in the field. The ball rocketed off the bat to backward square leg, but somehow stuck in Aareez’s hand. The whole team was both delighted and amazed. So was the square leg umpire (me). Aareez was also very happy with himself when a sneaky shot/edge blazed across the outfield for his first boundary ever, in Rd 9 at Gifford Park.

Thomas Bardosi: 215 runs @ 23.89; 8 wickets @ 19.63 One of the older players in the team, so Thomas’ skill and potential was quite noticeable early on. An all-round player and a left hander. Thomas was a little hot and cold, but when he was on, he produced some cricketing brilliance that was fun to watch. He was instrumental in securing victory with the bat in the last game of the season at Gifford Park. Thomas also took an excellent diving catch down leg side as wicket keeper. What a ripper! Corey Damato: 1 run @ .33 Unfortunately, Corey missed a few games with our team, but also played Milo cricket. Greater confidence will come with more time playing the game. Corey helped our team stay in the match during Rd 7 at Oatley Park versus Ramsgate. We were short on players and Corey held a steady bat to help the team see out the day. Christopher Damato: 1 run @ .5 Unfortunately, Christopher also missed a few games, but highlight was in the same match versus RAM. Christopher stood his ground, out on the pitch with his brother, to ensure the team weren’t all out on day 1. Christopher, you will see the ball better if you trim that fringe, or borrow a headband from D.K Lillee!! Andrew Ioannides: 128 runs @14.22; 8 wickets @ 20.75; 4 catches A quiet achiever. Except when he’s standing next to Joey in the field! You can sense Andrews’s passion for cricket once the ball is in his hand, or when the lid goes on. Andrew is another all-rounder. He had some successful innings with bat, hitting more than a few boundaries, best of all being 29*. Also a handy bowler with safe hands in the field when a catch came his way. He loves slide fielding in the outfield. George Keledjian: 8 runs @1.67; 4 wickets @ 31.25; 2 catches George really improved as the season progressed. No huge batting scores, but he stood his gRshowing some excellent defensive batting which resulted in spending some quality time out in the middle. As a bowler, George delivered some nice balls on the spot, collecting a few wickets and also a few maiden overs. George displays a positive attitude and encourages his team mates. Alexander Tzakos: 35 runs @5.83; 3 wickets @ 42 A unique bowling technique, but the odd ball did concern the opposing batsman. Alex really stepped up on the last day of the season. He spent a fair bit of time out in the middle and really started to swing the bat, even hitting a boundary. Alex definitely assisted in winning this game for his team. Jubair Ul Haque: Unfortunately Jubair missed quite a few games due to school and family commitments including holidays. Jubair always smiled and enjoyed his time at games and training. Funniest moment was the first game of the season while Jubair was fielding at mid-on, without any shoes on…..they were on the grass next to him. Muhbub Ul Haque: 3 runs @ 0.6; 1 wicket @ 71 Mahbub also missed a few games, but demonstrated his cricket was improving as the season progressed. Mahbub had three ‘not out’ innings with the bat, so there is potential to score some more runs. There was always vocal support for Mahbub from a certain father standing near the boundary. Joseph Vass: 89 runs @9.89; 8 wickets @ 18.13; 1 catch Loves to talk! And loves to dive for catches. Joey also loved to ‘bowl’ some experimental deliveries at training. However, he did manage to take 4/21 runs v ICC. Joey scored a few runs with the bat, but was also unlucky on a few occasions. Joey sees the ball well, so there definitely is potential to score many more runs. Tyler Watson: 16 runs @ 2; 2 wickets @ 26.5; 1 catch, 5 wk dismissals Another left hander, though bats right handed. Tyler spent many sweaty hours under the helmet, playing most of the season as wicket keeper, while slowly improving his bowling in the nets at training. He took off the keepers gloves during the last game to take two wickets, including a caught and bowled. Thank you to all the boys for playing, and for your cheerful personalities every Saturday morning. You need to remember to work as a team; trust and have faith in your team mates. Teamwork wins matches, not one player. Remember to walk in with the bowler, keep on your toes and stay positive. But most of all, enjoy your cricket! Nathan Watson Manager

Note than KCC White and PWS White were 10A teams playing in the 12B competition. They played a single Gand Final.

Our season started on an uncertain note as there were not enough teams to have a competition for U 10A’s. We were moved up to play U12B competition. Some of the parents were not very sure of our how team would be able to play the next level up when the season started. However as the competition progressed due to that hard work of all players and parents we were very comfortably placed eventually we topped the table in league phase. The team showed good progress playing together and improving all aspects of their game. There was notable improvement in bowling and fielding with most of the players improving their batting also during the season. Perhaps our biggest game and also a disappointment was the grand final. Having won all our games during the league phase we were positive about our chances in the finals. However the team had a batting collapse and lost key players very quickly. The under 10 Blues had a challenging year as it was the first year in the 10’s for the vast majority. It was especially challenging as four of them still qualified for the 8’s.Even though we were small in stature that did not stop them giving their all each week. I cannot recall a match even if the other team was clearly bigger and stronger than us where we were not competitive. This team of youngsters have a great fighting spirit. I think one of our greatest games for mine was a game that we actually lost funnily enough. We were down to our last three batsmen and they had to face 20 overs against a hostile attack! I’m sure our opponents thought they would show up and roll us for not much and send us back in for an outright victory…. Someone forgot to tell Ryan, Liam and James this as they stuck it out and prevented a whitewash. They showed off that fighting spirit and made me very proud of their efforts that day. We also had a great rivalry with the KCC Green team especially in the last game that went down to the wire with only two runs deciding the game. It was a great finish to a season between two good natured teams. Ryan Carlisle: Isa kid that is a pleasure to coach, he work’s hard at his game and I know his skills will improve in time. He needs to get rid of that big smile if he is going to be an angry fast bowler though! Abdullah Hameed: Has great skills in both batting and bowling, he is a real asset to the team. Unfortunately he did not play enough this year due to family holidays and commitments. I hope he continues his cricket next year. Richard Joseph: Another talented cricketer that missed a lot of the season this year. If we get a full season from Richard next year I know his game will develop out of sight! Tyrone Lee The enforcer!! He was our stand out with the bat this year almost scoring at will. Tyrone was the elder statesman of the team and his experience was invaluable to the team. Liam Lee: One of our youngest players in the team. Liam improved out of sight over the course of the season, especially his bowling. Watch out big brother Liam’s coming to get ya! Nicholas Lipari: Another one of our elder statesman who ended up being our best bowler. A kid who showed that if you work hard the results will come, well done Nicholas. James McNamara: is a little champion! He trains hard and loves his cricket, a real pleasure to coach. You can always depend on James to do well each week. I can see a big year of improvement for you next season. Samuel Bashall: Sam improved a lot this year and I think will have a big year next season. He was always vocal in the field supporting his team mates. Jake Myers: I think if we can harness his leg spin we are going to have a devastating bowler on our hands! He reads the game well, and is a natural cricketer. Another year of hard work will see Jake blossom. Riley Myers: For a little guy he is turning out to be an impressive fast bowler. Like his brother I see big thing’s for Riley next year.

Luke Pritchard: A great kid who will be missed next year as he goes to the 12s. I was so impressed with Luke as a cricketer and a quality person to boot! Ilyaan Raza: Was one of our best players but did not get enough cricket in due to an extended family holiday. He was a standout in the field catching anything that came his way. Another one that will be missed next year as he will be graduating to the 12s. Thanks to all the parents that helped out with scoring during the year. Many thanks must go especially to Stephen Carlisle whose efforts as team manager are much appreciated. Stephen does a lot of work both at team and club level and has always got the kids best interest at the forefront of his mind. He is a great club man, thanks Stephen. See you all next year! The boys had a great season considering it was their first season of playing ‘proper’ cricket, and were still a chance to make the semi-finals with only two games to go. Every single one of the boys improved in some way shape or form and they all should be very proud of how far they have come. The boys listened, for the most part, participated in training and during the games and tried their best at all times. It was great to see the team spirit that was on show each week whether it was by encouraging each other during the game, celebrating wickets together, consoling each other when things didn’t go to plan and just the enjoyment of playing and training each week together. As the coach, I am very proud of them and would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge each:- Adam Cameron: 6 runs @0.86; 2 wickets @ 62.00 Adam once again improved as a player this year even though the longer pitch took some getting used to. Highlight of the year for Adam was his two wickets a great achievement. Nathan Cox: 32 runs @10.67; 2 wickets @ 35.00 Mr Consistency, Nathan was very unlucky not to take a lot more wickets with countless deliveries just going over the top of the stumps. His highlight of the season was a great innings for us to ensure the win in the last game. Nathan was a pleasure to coach, he was always polite and always took my advice on board. Keep up the good work and good luck in the 12’s next season. Samuel Geha: 30 runs @7.50; 4 wickets @ 17.75 The quiet achiever! Samuel didn’t say much but always tried his best out in the middle with some good bowling and batting and has a great arm in the field. Always a pleasure to coach and I hope he backs up again next season. Keep that elbow up when you are batting Samuel. Arshveer Girn: 18 runs @4.50; 7 wickets @ 12.71 Ash was great fun to coach for the first time this season along with his twin brother even though it wasn’t always easy to tell who was who. Always tried his best and loved a chat. His highlight was his bowling and taking the most wickets and being on a hatrick in one game. Keep working on that batting and building up that strength and we will see you score some more runs next season. Hitkaran Girn: 18 runs @3.60; 2 wickets @ 26.00 Like his brother loved a chat but was always full of enthusiasm and keen to do well. Did well in the field backing up the keeper and scoring a couple of direct hit run outs. Like Ash, Karan work on that batting and keep that arm straight when bowling. Sam Gordon: 20 runs @3.33; 4 wickets @ 12.25 One of our two ‘veterans’ who was playing his second year of U10’s Sam showed the new boys how the keeping was done early in the season. His enthusiasm and desire to well was great to see and he was a great team player always offering support to his teammates. Good luck in the U12’s next year Sam it was great having you apart of the team this year.

Henry Keledjian: 30 runs @6.00; 1 wicket @ 66.00 After missing the first few games of the season, Henry caught up quickly to the rest of the boys and was a key contributor to the team in all aspects. Henry was a pleasure to coach and I loved his passion for the game and to do well. Can see he will do well next year with a season under his belt and I look forward to him progressing even further next year. Jakob Lindberg: 119 runs @29.75; 5 wickets @ 17.20 Continued his excellent improvement and development from last season. Was our top run scorer and was easily our most consistent batter. Jakob was great to coach and always willing to listen, learn and support his teammates. Jakob’s bowling really came along in the last couple of games and I can see him going a long way in the game. Taj McLoughlin: 69 runs @11.50; 5 wickets @ 9.80 One of our consistent players with both bat and ball. Could easily have doubled his wickets for the season with a little luck, even the top teams in the comp had problems scoring runs off him. It was great to see him learn that it is ok if you get out and not the end of the world. Has a great knowledge on the game and loved encouraging his teammates. Has great passion for doing well and I can see him taking his game to the next level next season. Armaan Siduh: 24 runs @3.00 Another one of our unlucky bowlers and could have easily had many wickets. He always gave it his all and always had a smile on his face. Armaan was a pleasure to coach and have in the team andi can see him making the step up to the U12’s next season quite easily. He just needs to work on his speed between the wickets and he will be right. Remember Amraan “PUSH Armaan,PUSH!!!. Anasta Sioutas: 12 runs @2.00; 4 wickets @ 26.50 Anasta always tried his best and was always willing to listen and learn. He made some good improvements this year and just needs to work on his consistency and he will be fine. A great team player I wish you all the best for next season Anasta! Marcus Webb 18 runs @3.00; 1 wickets @ 95.00 A great team player, Marcus was a pleasure to have on the team and a pleasure to coach. Some unlucky dismals didn’t help but I can see the improvements he has made and another season in the U10’s will make all the difference. Keep up the practise Marcus and see you next season! It was a great pleasure to coach the under 10B Green Team for 2014/2015. I am very proud of their individual and team achievements this year and look forward to watching their cricket develop further in seasons to come. A big thank you to all the parents who assisted me during the season and covered for me and my work commitments. A special thanks goes to John Cox who stood in and looked after the team when I was away. Thanks to Dave, Peter, Joe and Rachel for scoring and thanks to all the parents for being so punctual each week for both training and on game day! I hope you enjoyed the season as much as I did and I look forward to seeing some of you again next season! Nathan McLoughlin Coach

8 Green – Michael Venn

We formed our under 8 Green team after the Christmas break. It comprised late registrations and players moving up from Milo cricket. The main aim was to get the boys on the field so they could see what park cricket was like, and to whet their appetities for next season. They trained with the under 8 Blues and Bushy Pillay, and it was great for me to see each player’s improvement from Saturday to Saturday. We were always short of players but our opponents always lent a player or two so we could have a real game. So thank to all our opponents for helping out. The team was: Jackson Cahill-Smith: A big unit who could bat and bowl pretty well for a first timer, and he took a screamer of a catch at square leg. He spent most games with the 10As because they were short and he supported them in their run to the Grand Final. Ardit Garg: A handy cricketer who benefited from playing the game. His bowling was steady but his batting showed real improvement. Look out for him next year. Nabeel Mohammed: Older of the Mohammeds was a consistent bowler and his batting started to improve as we closed out the season. You can’t imagine how many times I got their names confused. Nihall Mohammed: Not far behind his older brother. His bowling was very effective. His batting will get there with more practice. You can’t imagine how many times I mixed up their names. Zane Rima: Went well for a rank beginner and could chat like a pro. He had some attention issues that held back his development. Lachlan Vidal: lachie could bat and bowl, but like his teammates lacked consistency. He will be a useful cricketer as he develops his skills. Theodore Walsh: Theo came out of the Milo program and was probably the most timid player of the team but after a few games he was really getting the hang of playing cricket. He visibly improved each week. Thanks to Bushy pillay, Gaurav Gupta, Ruben Gold and the other parents who coached and looked after the boys at training, when I was not available. Thanks to the parents for supporting their children as they start their cricket careers. You only have eight to ten years to go. Special thanks to Keiran for doing most of the scoring, and we know that the under 8s is the T20 of scoring. Congratulations to the players for trying to improve. Michael Venn Coordinator

Throughout the season many players demonstrate the qualities and attributes to be a fine cricketer - effort, improvement, attendance, sacrifice, perseverance, sportsmanship, dedication, and reliability. And in some cases they have the statistics as well. Congratulations on an excellent season, but remember it would not have been possible without team mates taking catches, saving runs with good fielding, partnering the batting and encouraging you all the way. Remember to thank your coach, team mates and family for their support. You could not have done it without them.

Spirit of Cricket

This is a new occasional award sponsored by Subodh Shirodkar's business, People Practices Australia. The Management Committee will identify a club member who demonstrates the spirit of cricket, not necessarily by their achievements, but by their attitude and approach to the game.

BEN PANAYOTOPOULPOS Ben always displays outstanding sportsmanship when playing cricket. Despite being called up regularly for St George grade duties, he has always shown loyalty to his teams in the last copule of seasons (14A and 16A), and stuck by them particularly when they have had shortages due to injury and private school commitments. On the field Ben leads by example, and was a vice captain of the successful under 16A premiership winning team this season. He has always accepted umpire decisions without complaint, is the first to congratulate opposition players when they succeed and encourages his team mates constantly. One incident in particular encapsulates Ben fairness and sportsmanship:- While playing for St George Green Shield v Sutherland in Rd 5, Ben was responsible for an outstanding display of sportsmanship at a crucial time in the match. At the time the incident occurred, Sutherland required around 40 runs for victory with four wickets in hand and ten overs left. At the crease was one of their “gun” batters, Dylan Koprevic. Ben was bowling and fielded a return throw as the Sutherland batter, Koprevic, attempted a run. Ben broke the wicket at the bowler’s end and the Sutherland batter was adjudged run out by the umpire. As the batter commenced walking off the field, Ben signalled for him to stop. He then approached both umpires and requested that the appeal, which had come from his St George team mates, be withdrawn. He explained to the umpires that he had broken the wicket with his hands and not the ball, and the batter should not have been given out. With this, the umpires recalled the Sutherland batter and reversed their earlier decision. The two players shook hands and embraced, acknowledging the fine act of sportsmanship that had just taken place. As an aside St George won the game with Koprivec scoring 36*. Ben scored 105, took 1/14 and a catch.

Perpetual Awards

Club Person of the Year

This occasional award recognises a person associated with the club who has contributed significantly above and beyond their normal role.

ANDREW PYE Andrew migrated to KCC from Marrickville CC in 2011/2012. He brought with him a team looking for better competition, and those players have basically stayed with Andrew through thick and thin over four years to finally be the 16A Premiers this season. And it is that story that commends Andrew as our club person of the year. He successfully integrated existing KCC players into this new, established team from ‘outside’ and players such as Ryan Betbeter-Matibet and Adrian Bosanac became key elements of the team. We never heard any complaints about ‘us and them’ or players not getting a fair go. In 2012/2013 the 14Bs finished third in a six team competition but lost their Semi Final. Next year the 14As finished first from five, but lost the Grand Final. In 2013/2014 the 16A Blues struggled for numbers but persisted and finished seventh out of seven. This season essentially the same 16A team used their experience from last season to finish Minor Premiers in a very even four team competition, and went on to win a nail biting Grand Final. Andrew’s coaching and tactics contributed a lot to that win and the season’s success. But these years were not without difficulty. Player shortages due to injury, private school commitments and other matters, made some games particularly difficult and the 16A season of 2013/2014 saw many games lost with several players unavailable. Throughout it all, Andrew stood by the team and his players stood by him. Andrew squeezed in a season of seniors with KCC in 2013/2014, and brought his own substitute fielder to most games. He was a representative coach and manager for three years, where he again represented our Club very well. A case of perseverance and persistence. Congratulations.

Perpetual Awards

The Albert McDowell Award

The award honours long serving junior players who have given and shown great loyalty and service to their teams and the club. The award recognises the love these players have displayed for the game of cricket as well as their efforts, sacrifices and achievements. To be eligible – the players must be completing their final junior year with Kingsgrove Cricket Club. The award is named after Albert McDowell, father of Ray the club’s founding father and our Patron.

RYAN BETBETER-MATIBET Ryan has played for Kingsgrove for the last nine seasons and typifies what this award is about. Not necessarily the best cricketer in the team but someone who loves the game and has supported Kingsgrove throughout his career. A real club person. Ryan is an accomplished wicket keeper, handy batsman, and useful bowler when released from behind the stumps. And a great team player. In 2006/2007 he received the KCC all rounder award for the 10Cs (85 runs @ 28.3, 2 wickets @ 32.5, 6 wk dismissals), and in 2010/2011 he won the KCC batting award for the 12As (173 @ 19.22). In the same year he won the Association award for most 12A wicket keeper dismissals (6). He has enjoyed being a wholehearted wicket keeper and taking some excellent catches. One memorable moment was batting with his brother, Marc, in 12C. This was the only year the two brothers player together. Unfortunately, Marc was run out for 49, but Ryan went on to score his first 50. Ryan never tried out for representatives but he has played cricket for his primary school and Sydney Tech. He is also an accomplished scorer and passionate cricket statistician. Ryan was a key member of this year’s 16A premiership team. We thank Ryan for his contribution to the club as a player and team mate.
