o Afterschool Academic Subject Area Tutoring & Homework Help o Regent Test Prep o Summer Internship Prep & Placement Opportunities o College Preparation & Readiness o Field Trips & Rewards

S T U D Y H A L L S C H E D U L E DAYS TIME LOCATION Mon & Wed 3:00 – 5:00 pm KIPP: STAR Tue & Thu 4:00 – 5:45 pm KIPP: STAR Mon – Thu 3:30 – 5:00 pm KIPP Academy Tue – Thu 3:30 – 5:30 KIPP:AMP KIPP THROUGH COLLEGE POLICIES A T T E N D A N C E All high school age KIPP NYC alumni may attend study hall during the times and at the locations listed above. Students should come to study hall with the purpose of completing homework or studying independently, or to work with a tutor in a particular subject area (at STAR and AMP only). If a student shows up to study hall without any work to do, KTC will provide the students with supplemental study materials. If the student does not want to complete the suggested assignment, his or her parent/guardian will be contacted and the student will be sent home. S T U D Y P L A N S Once a student has received a progress report or report cards, his or her cluster advisor will develop a study plan to target areas of weakness in collaboration with the students and his or her parent/guardian. The study plan will specify the days of the week and times that the student is to attend KTC study hall. If a student does not attend on the scheduled day and time, the parent/guardian will be contacted. D I S M I S S A L Students will be escorted out of the building at 5:00 PM or 5:45 PM by KTC staff. In order to maintain the safety of students in the AEP NO STUDENT will be permitted to leave at any other times without formal parental/guardian permission. S A F E T Y & S E C U R I T Y Once students enter KIPP Academy or KIPP:STAR they are to report to the KTC designated classrooms for study hall. Students will be signed in by a KTC staff member and given a snack (and a Metro Card, if applicable). Alumni may not enter KIPP middle school classrooms or offices without first signing in and getting permission from KTC staff.

F O O D & D R I N K S Outside food & drinks must be put away upon entry to KIPP. With the exception of bottled water, no outside food or drinks will be permitted. Snacks will be provided by KTC staff throughout the year. The use of gum is not permitted inside of KIPP middle schools. M E T R O C A R D S KIPP Through College will have a limited number of Metro Cards available for KIPP high school age alumni who are participating in after school programming provided by KTC College. Students who need a Metro Card must fill out an application. Students will be approved based on the proximity of their home address to the KIPP school where the after school programming is held. Approved students will receive a Metro Card upon arrival to AEP, given that they arrive at the appropriate time and participate fully in the services being provided. Students who arrive to after school programming after 4:15 PM or do not come to KTC with a purpose will not be issued a Metro Card. Students will receive one Metro Card per week. This allows the student to visit KIPP twice during the week at the expense of KIPP. Students with special circumstances that require additional fare should speak with their advisor. D R E S S C O D E & C O N D U C T * High School alumni are expected to dress appropriately for a school setting. If the clothing is a distraction to the work environment, then it will be addressed by KTC staff. * All alumni will have a modest appearance – no spaghetti straps, tank tops or other revealing clothing is acceptable. Attire with gang representation or negative slogans should not be worn in any KIPP school. Jeans should be above the waist. * All hats, scarves, doo-rags and other non-religious headwear must be removed upon entry to KIPP. * All cell phones, i-pods, and other non-academic electronic devices must be put away upon entry to KIPP. *All alumni should use appropriate language at all times. * All alumni must adhere to the behavior standards of KIPP Through College – respect of property and people, and appropriate conduct is expected at all times. *Alumni should always use the stairs to enter and leave the building, not the elevator unless they have permission by a KTC staff member due to an injury or because they are assisting a staff member. *All alumni should refrain from loitering in the hallways and should be at KTC with a purpose.

KIPP’s 10 Commandments for Success in High School and Getting to College 1) I am responsible for my own behavior.

2) I will always work, think, and behave in the best way I know how and I will do whatever

it takes for me and my fellow KIPPsters to go to college. I will always remember that I am a KIPPster. As a result I will always follow the KIPP credo:

• If there is a problem, I will look for a solution. • If there is a better way, I will find it. • If I need help, I will ask for it IMMEDIATELY. • If a teammate needs help, I will give it.

3) I will strive to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of over 80 in all of my classes. This means that I will earn grades of all A’s and B’s. Whenever possible I will take the most challenging courses I can, including Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes.

4) If my grades fall below 80 I will immediately contact the KIPP through College staff and

arrange for tutoring.

5) I will submit copies of all of my report cards within one week of receiving them to the KIPP Through College staff.

6) I will find teachers, mentors, a college advisor, and friends who will help my educational

development and personal growth. 7) I will always participate in at-least one extra-curricular activity and I will try to become

outstanding in at least one such activity. If I am not participating in an after-school activity, I will either study or work at KIPP.

8) I will take classes to help me study for the PSAT, SAT I, and SAT II subject tests starting

on later than the fall of 10th grade. 9) I will avoid people, places, and things that I know or should know will not help me have

a good future. 10) I will be honest with myself and others at all times, and I will accept responsibility for my

actions.
