KISTI is a government-funded research institute designed to maximize theefficiency of science and technology R&D and support high-tech R&D forresearchers.

KISTI has laid the foundation for sophisticated R&D by collecting science andtechnology information from countries around the world and providing theinformation to companies and research institutions. Also, KISTI has suppliedcustomized information analysis service to enable researchers and small &medium sized companies to make a right decision on time and hascontributed to maximizing research efficiency through building the world-class super computing and research network.

Additionally, KISTI is helping researchers to generate excellent resultsthrough higher value-added information, advancement of research and thecommercialization of science and is playing a key role in making Korea enterthe line of developed nations by actively responding to the global science andtechnology paradigm, rapidly being converged and sophisticated.

KISTI promotes informatization of scientific society and establishesOne-Stop service system of scientific information. And it provides ascientific society with an information infrastructure such asdevelopment of KISTI -ACOMS(Article Contribution ManagementSystem) and scientific society website and registration of CrossRef'sglobal identification symbols required for facilitating scientific activitiesand effective management of scientific information.

KESLI (Korean Electronic Site License Initiative,Consortium for Joint Purchase of Overseas Journals)

KESLI is a national joint purchase consortium intended to jointlypurchase and extensively utilize overseas e-information. KISTIsupports purchase procedure and utilization so as for local libraries tojointly purchase various e-information in a reasonable manner.Currently, 21,618 types of e-journals are jointly purchased by a total of61 consortiums whose members included 359 agencies, accordinglymaximizing efficiency of the information against the purchasing cost.

Build and Operate Foundation forScience and TechnologyInformation.

KISTI collects, and builds information DB on state-of-the-art

science and technology which are the core part in the research and

development. Based on cooperation system among various

communities home and abroad, information that researchers need

is gathered and offered easily and rapidly. ●

NTIS (National science&Technology Information Service)

NTIS is aimed at building and operating a portal service wherevarious information related to national R&D projects promoted bythe government authorities and agencies is gathered, worked andprovided on a real time basis. Accordingly, it addresses the issue ofoverlapped investment in the national R&D projects and enhancesefficiency and productivity of investment in R&D.

Total Management of National R&D Outcomes

KISTI was designated as an agency exclusive for national R&Dreports and papers in August, 2008. Full-original text is registeredand donated permanently or temporarily by specialized researchmanagement institution. KISTI provides them to utilize and spreadgood outcomes of research information.

Public Utilization of National R&DInformation

Information related to national R&D project and science &

technology information are collected and provided for public

utilization, consequently making contribution to effectively

managing R&D projects and improving efficiency of investment.

KSCD (Korean Science Citation DB)

KSCD provides information about how many papers the localjournals of science and technology sector are issuing and howmany time each paper is cited. It enables researchers to easily findpapers they need and to check research trend in the relevant area,thus increasing efficiency.

Korean Human Information

It is to reconstruct and utilize Korean human information withcomputerized image. It is divided into two projects: Visible projectfocused on serial human section image and Digital Korean projectfocused on CT data.

KOSEN(Korean Scientists and Engineers' Network)

KOSEN is a cyber human networking for korean scientistsworking around the world. It is a global site for securingknowledge required for R&D, based on active informationexchange among members.

NDSL refers to a platform designed to contribute to innovating thenational science and technology by providing high-qualityinformation to researchers working in university, institute andindustry. It offers an integrated and specialized search service forapprox. 99,000 contents related to science and technology includingacademic paper, patent and research report.

KoreaScience (Global Science Gateway)

KoreaScience is a global service platform in which the domesticscience and technology information is developed into GlobalContent(english version) and then distributed worldwide. Thisplatform is operated in connection with the World Wide Science.org,a global science & technology information search service.

KISTI supplies not only high-quality information to local

researchers but also builds and operates various information

service system where researchers around the world can have easy

New Technology Information Portal(MiriAn)

MiriAn is a customized service where international and domestic120 experts with doctor degrees provide information on around 200issue technologies. Additional services provided include GlobalTrend Briefing (GTB) to select and offer the latest scientifictechnology trend in other advanced countries, information on trendof technologies selected by KISTI and in-depth analysis reportanalyzed by KISTI researchers.

Specialized Information Analysis Portal

Expert information analysis portals are provided to generate highvalue-added information which can be utilized on research site. ReSEAT program which is operated by many retired scientists withlong research career and know-how and GTNet(Green TechnologyNetwork) which aims to realize low-carbon green growth policy ofnation are developed and provided by KISTI.

R&D Planning Support for Individual Companies

This project provides consulting service about new technologies toindividual small and medium sized companies in all stages fromR&D planning to commercialization. Services linked to SMBC(Small& medium Business Corporation) are provided, including supportfor planning small and medium company's R&D, support forpreparing a technical road map and building a strategy of anindividual company, and technology valuation analysis.

Integrated Road Map for Small & Medium SizedCompanies

This road map offers vision and policy of technology developmentfor small and medium companies, including proposal of technologydevelopment and support policy for the small and mediumcompanies and set-up of main strategic fields at the national levelthrough industrial environmental analysis. Especially, strategicproducts are selected regarding promising technologies in 26 fieldsand a relevant road map is built to be used in the R&D policy for thesmall and medium companies.

Explore Promising Items

This is to find highly potential business items suitable for each smalland medium companies by systematizing solutions for new growthengine of each company. As a part of this project, a Global-Upsupport program for commercializing technology of small andmedium companies is carried out in order to increase the successrate of overseas business. Also, KISTI holds annually a 'PromisingFuture Technology Seminar', the nation's largest seminar onscience and technology which shows trend of future science.

Star Science & Technology Information Analysis for R&D ,whichprovides objective investment information about technology value,is built and operated based on multidimensional technologyvaluation model and information system. And the analysis-orientedindustrial market DB and industrial information analysissystem(Smart2) are being established.

Next-Generation InformationAnalysis System

KISTI builds a next-generation information analysis system to

create an environment where higher-quality analysis information is

provided to small and medium sized companies and researchers,

thus helping industry, university and research institute to perform

R&D effectively. ●

ASTI(Association of Science and TechnologyInformation)

KISTI and experts from various science and technology partscombine their forces together to support small and mediumcompanies in R&D and commercialization. Currently, 15 regionalassociations are founded and operated with approx. 12,000members from industry, university and institute.

1-1 Customized Information Service

Researchers exclusively responsible for addressing difficulties ofindividual small and medium companies are allocated and thenthey annually visit working sites of 100 companies and investigatedemand.

GLORIAD is the world's first global ring network participated by 11countries with an aim to support the International joint cooperativeresearch. Established as a 10 GB super-high speed network, itbacks up applied research of sophisticated science and technology.

GSDC(Global Science Experimental Data Hub Center)

GSDC maintains a virtualization system for the joint utilization ofexperimental data from advanced research equipment andmaintains a global data grid computing infrastructure for jointanalyses of experimental data generated by the world's top 3proton accelerators. Also, it plays as a hub of global pipeline in theAsia-Pacific region

Nationwide Cyber Lab and the Provision of TechnicalSupport

A nationwide cyber lab for interactive cooperation in real time isbuilt for large-scale data analysis, high-quality convergenceresearch/education environment and technical supports.

Development of National wide Super Computing Infra.

Super computing technology is developed and efficiently operated togive high-tech research environments to local scientists, consequentlyenhancing science and technology competitiveness. The efforts arebeing made to operate general system related to super computer,develop the relevant technologies, and operate SMP(IBM) andMMP(SUN) related to super computer No.4.

The nationwide super computing resources are interconnected to givemore efficient operation and service environments for super computing.

KREONET(Korea Research Environment Open NETwork)

KREONET is a world-class research network based on 16 regionalnets across the nation. It enables scientists and engineers home andaborad to conduct joint studies , thus contributing to improvingproductivity of research.

With the introduction of world-best super computer, KISTI provides

advanced cyber research environment to support scientists and engineers

to generate R&D performance better and faster.

Development of Science Cloud Technology

Super Computer Strategy Support Program

Super computing resources and applied technology are supplied forapplied research tasks in Computational Science and Engineeringfield whose significance is recognized at the national level.
