Questions from direct observation

• What is ideal weather for kite flying ?• Why kite flying be done on height area?• How kite is made and materials required?• Why string is use while flying?

HIGHER ORDER THINKING QUESTIONS

• Why is the need of clear weather for kite flying ?• What is the scientific phenomena behind kite flying ?• How tails help in fly ?• What will be difference in flying between the kite

with and without tail ?• How we will know that kite is in stable ?• How wind affects on kite flying ?

ANSWER KEY….• When something is in the air, gravity is what pulls it down to

the ground. when you put a kite in the air gravity wants it to bring it down.

• lift is what happens when wind pushes against something and carries it up.

• Lift ( force) is depend on the size of its surface or its area. A piece of paper will float in the wind but if you crumple it that paper into a ball, it wont float as well. That's because you have made the surface smaller. when a kite is lifted by the wind the wind pushes against the whole surface of the kite to lift it up.

Newton's third law of motion

• The kite is kept on the earth by the tension in the string and the force of gravity.

• The kite is kept in the air by the lift.• To raise and lower the kite in the air we can

use lift by increasing and reducing the tension in the string.

Bernoulli's theorem explains why the kite has lift.

• The kite creates an obstacle to the normal air flow the cause the air to change direction and speed.

• If you hold the kite out flat to the wind like a wing beneath the kite the wind is slowed down and therefore pressure of the wind increases to compensate.

• Above the kite ,the air is not slowed down and sometimes is sped up so that pressure either stays the same or decreases. The pressure difference between the kites bottom and top surfaces causes the lift force.

• Kite without tail, it will spin and roll around it and will not fly because the kite is unstable. Adding a tail to kite helps make it fly more stably by adding some needed weight and drag to its lower end.
