Pre-build Good solutions come from firm foundations

Our comprehensive pre-build investigations, assessments and laboratory tests help clients reach a ‘fit for purpose’ stage for their site, enabling them to get residential or commercial developments underway with full confidence. Creating sustainable commercial and residential developments that generate long term positive outcomes for all stakeholders - from funders and developers to operators and end users - is more challenging than ever. Ensuring the quality and durability of construction materials and the correct management of waste materials is therefore crucial.

We help with the essential elements of the development process and mix design, and carry out assessments at all stages – from examining raw materials and structures to testing finished products for compliance. We also examine materials that show evidence of potential problems, ensuring that issues can be remedied effectively and further deterioration prevented.

Environmental performance is part and parcel of sustainability. We evaluate waste management and reclamation and reuse of materials, and make recommendations on how these can be improved. We also test imported materials such as topsoil and subsoil to ensure compliance with BS 3882 and site assessment criteria for contaminants, and appraise final waste, soils and similar materials under Waste Acceptance Criteria.

Post-completion testing picks up any issues that do arise, as well as assessing maintenance efficiency and viable future refurbishment and development. Our post-handover report provides valuable data for future project planning, design and construction.
