Tim O'Brien led us in singing "God Bless America" and the Pledge PRAYER: Paul SheehyGUESTS: Janet Nowell and Pamela Heinemann HAPPY BUCKS: Many for LARRY BARRASAS for our very great FOOD PANTRY DRIVE! TIM O'BRIEN for his alum Northwestern's win over Ohio. MIKE ADAMS for upcoming events:October Fest next Saturday, the Chamber's Open House this Thursday, and for seeing Ray Rodriguez back at Kiwanis. JIM SCHENHER for the Ed. Foundation & peanuts. KAY MOODY for all the kids who helped the food drive, some of whom learned the difference in veggies and fruits! CHARLIE DEAL is happy that he and JANET had a wonderful 6217 mile road trip to Seattle and back. Several people urged attendance at the Ed. Foundation event. LARRY BARRASAS thanked all who helped with the Food Drive, especially the great kids. HE WOULD LIKE ALL IDEAS FOR NEXT YEAR, so share your thoughts. CAROL SHINGLER'S fundraiser raised $2580 and her husband had some successful eye surgery. There was a drawing for those who participated. The SHINGLER'S will be grandparents soon. JANET DEAL thanked JAY VETTICKAL and ANDREA HARTY and others who helped to get the October newsletter out in her absence. MARGO BROWN is happy with the upcoming Barn dedication.SHARON TARRY said the BABY-SITTING 101 went well at the "Y". That is one of our service projects.CAROL SHINGLER was thanked for her food preparation at the Food Pantry for the workers.HAPPY BIRTHDAY was sung to PAT DANKO, TONY DEBONIS, SHIRLEY RHODY, RAY RODRIGUEZ AND LISA FIELD.50/50 @ $805.50. SAM HICKS shuffled the cards, and JAY VETTICKAL did not draw the Q of Spades.ANNOUNCEMENTS: PARTY ON WEDNESDAY, OCT 21ST, AT THE BRICKYARD BREWERY. LARRY reported there were 27 KIWANIS MEMBERS helping, 27 ROTC helped, 12 from the BUILDERS CLUB and 12 from the KEY CLUB on last Saturday's FOOD PANTRY DRIVE. THANKS TO ALL. JIM BURNS gave appreciation Kiwanis shirts to JANET DEAL (for the newsletter) and to DAVE ALBRECHT (for being a founding member). Those two had been absent at the earlier presentations.PROGRAM: TIM O'BRIEN introduced PAMELA HEINEMANN, our speaker. She spoke to us of the wonderful work that is done by THE CENTER FOR POSSIBILITIES, 22 Tyler Avenue, Hobart. (near River Forest HS). Their work is with children age 0 to 18 who have disabilities. Presently they work with fourteen families, but want us to give out the pamphlets to anyone we know who might make use of them now or in the future. CALL-(219) 962 5751 for more information. He works with the Hobart Council on Aging on getting affordable transportation for seniors. The Maria Reiner foundation gave grant monies and they signed up 114 seniors since May 28 to participate in the program. The number one destination for the seniors was Walmart. He also stated that the seniors use the service for doctors appointments or hospital visits.
