    I am delighted and proud to know that the Kannur District Karate-do Association is hosting the

    KKAs 33rd Kerala State Karate-do Championships-2014 under the leadership of Kerala Karate-do Association (KKA) at Kannur from 10 to 12 October 2014.

    Kannur District Karate-do Association is a very active and vibrant association and is one of the

    models Association to follow and has already successfully conducted three Kerala State Karate-

    do Championships in 1998, 2008, and 2013.

    They have already planned a well chalked out, systematic active schedule covering all aspects of

    the championship, right from the comfort of the participants, arranging press coverage and to the

    actual fighting competition.

    This state championship will play a crucial role in spreading the message of karate-do and its

    benefits to the public particularly the youth.

    I am also pleased to know that ministers, sports dignitaries, political leaders & Govt. Officials

    will be present along with me in the inaugural & valedictory function.

    I request all the district associations in Kerala to send the maximum number of participants and I

    have been assured by Sensei P. Ram Dayal the dynamic President of Kerala Karate-do

    Association that Kannur District Karate-do Association have formulated a very capable

    organizing committee, working 24 hours to make this Championship a grand success.

    On behalf of the Kerala Karate-do Association (KKA) & Kannur District Karate-do Association

    (KDKA), it is my pleasure to invite you to the KKAs 33rd Kerala State Karate-do Championships-2014 which will be held from 10 to 12 October 2014 at Kannur University

    Indoor Stadium, University Campus, Mangattuparamba, Kannur.

    In the last three decades, Kannur District Karate-do Association (KDKA) is functioning as the

    sole governing body of all recognized karate styles in Kannur District and is the lone

    representative of the State Association of All India Karate-Do Federation (AIKF).

    No organization will ever survive until and unless new ideas, new plans and new programmes

    are imbibed and implemented. KDKA has taken a lead in cultivating these values and has traced

    a shining path in promoting Karate to the common man. The contribution of KDKA in

    encouraging karate spirit of solidarity and sportsmanship among karatekas is well appreciated by

    all.

    Kannur District Karate-do Association is very proud to host the Kerala Karate-do Association

    (KKA)s 33rd Kerala State Karate-do Championships-2014. KDKA has the unique distinction of hosting the 1998, 2008 and 2013 state championships.

    2000 indirect members of the KDKA is looking forward for this wonderful event, whose

    commitment and involvement to this project as volunteers and spectators will help to make this

    event a grand success.

    We are expecting around 600 karatekas from all the 14 Districts of Kerala and have made all

    arrangements to make this championship a memorable one for all karatekas. Our organizing

    committee will be working round the clock in making this one of the best championship ever.

    We cordially invite all Kerala Karate-do Association members to participate in the 33rd

    KERALA

    STATE KARATE-DO CHAMPIONSHIPS-2014 (Children, Cadet, Junior, Under 21 & Senior) to

    be held from 10 12 October 2014 at Kannur University Indoor Stadium, Mangattuparamba, Kannur.

    Relevant information related to all the events of the Championship is given under. Please make

    necessary copies of the Individual Entry Form.

    Participation in the Championships is open to all Black Belts & Colour Belts of affiliated districts.

    Entry fee will be `400 for one event and `500 for multiple events per head.

    There will be a very colourful inaugural and valedictory function attended by ministers, AIKF Officials and distinguished sports persons.

    Medals and Certificates to the winners are as usual.

    The winners of this Championship will represent Kerala State in the AIKFs National Karate-do Championships.

    Sensei Sandeep Salvi, AIKF Convener & AIKF Referee Council Chairman, will conduct the

    AIKF Dan Grading and KKA Referee clinic & Examination.

    All the members are requested to remit the annual affiliation fee with arrears if any at the time of

    registration.

    TOURNAMENT RULES

    1. Entries closes on Friday, 3rd October 2014 at 05.00 pm

    2. Late entries will not be accepted.

    3. Entries with entry fee Bank slip only shall be accepted. Entry fees have to be deposited in KKA account (Kerala Karate-do Association, A/c No. 33372441222, State Bank of India, Fort

    Road, Kannur. IFSC Code: SBIN0000822). One copy of Entry should be mail to

    [email protected] on or before 3rd

    October 2014.

    4. From each District, any number of eligible candidates can be participated in each category.

    5. Karatekas from KKAs affiliated District Associations only will be allowed to participate.

    6. Participants shall maintain strict discipline.

    7. Participants shall report 10 minutes prior to their bout.

    8. Championships schedule is liable to last minutes change.

    9. It is mandatory on the part of the coach / team authorities to ensure that their participants must wear protective equipments (mitts / shin pad / foot protector / female protector / gum Shield /

    groin guards, etc..).

    10. WKF tournament rules (Version 8) will be followed.

    11. The Organising Committee will decide matters not covered by rules.

    12. The tournament committee / referee panel will not be responsible for any untoward happenings to the participants at the time of tournament.

  • Kannur

    PLACES OF TOURIST INTERESTS

    The tourism potential for Kannur district is high. The St. Angelos Fort in the Kannur Cantonment,

    which was constructed in 1505, is a symbol of Portuguese architecture and attracts plenty of tourists.

    The Thalassery Fort is an important tourist centre. Kannur beach and Ezhimala are known for scenic

    beauty. Places of historic importance, like the house of Gulldert, who composed the first Malayalm-

    English Dictionary and the mosque at Madayi constructed in 1124, using marble brought from

    Mecca attract many tourists.

    Fort St. Angelos

    Fort St. Angelos is in the west of

    Kannur town. It was built in 1505

    by the first Portuguese Viceroy,

    Don Francisco De Almeida, with

    the permission of the Kolathiris,

    on a promontory jutting into the

    Lakshadweep sea. The Dutch

    captured the fort in 1663 and sold

    it to the Ali Raja of Kannur in

    1772 and in 1790 it came into the

    possession of the British. The

    British rebuilt it and made it their

    most important station in Malabar .

    This fort is in a fairly good state of

    preservation, though parts of it

    have collapsed. A few obsolete

    guns areseeh at the place. The fort is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of

    India.

    Thalassery Fort

    The British arrived in Thalassery in 1683 and

    errected a goods shed there. They shifted their

    ommercial capital to Thalassery from Kozhikkode,

    following obstruction from the Dutch. In 1700, the

    British built the Thalassery Fort on a small hill

    called Tiruvellapadkunnu and in 1708, it was

    strengthened by increasing its height and with

    bastions. The fort is square structure built of laterite

    and is distinguished by its massiv ventilated walls

    and strong flanking bastions. It was here that Raider'

    captain was imprisoned.The famous St. John's

    Anglican church is behind this fort.

  • Muzhappilangad Beach (15.K.M from Kannur:

    Black rocks protect this long ,clean beach from the currents of the deep, making it shallows waters a

    swimmer's paradise.Perhaps this is Keralas only drive- in beach. Where you can drive entire length

    of 4 K.m.

    Payyambalam Beach

    The Payyambalam beach is one of the beautiful beaches in this State and is an ideal place to spend

    evenings, irrespepctive of seasons. It is very near Kannur town. The mortal remains or'

    Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pilla, A.K. Gopalan, K.P. Gopalan, Pamban Madhavan and K.G.

    Marar are laid to rest near this resort.

  • Ezhimala Ezhimala, the capital of the ancient Mooshika kings, is considered to be an ancient historical site. It

    is a onspicuous,isolated cluster of hills, forming a promontory, 38 kms. north of Kannur.

    A flouriIshing sea port and centre of

    trade in ancient Kerala, it was one of

    the major battle fields of the Chola-

    Chera war of the II th century .I It is

    believed that Lord Budha had visited

    Ezhimala. An old mosque, believed

    to contain the mortal remains of

    Shaikh Abdul Latif, a Muslim

    retormlst, is also located here. The

    hill is noted for rare medicinal herbs.

    Bordered by sea on three sides,

    Ezhimala is set to occupy a

    prominent place in the naval history

    of the country, consequent to the

    proposal for ommissioning the

    N.aval Academy here.

    Snake Park at Parassinikkadavu

    The Snake Park at Parassinikkadavu is situated 18 kms. Away from Kannur town. It Is one of the

    known snake parks in the country . The park is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of

    snakes, most of which are becoming extinct gradually. There is a large collection of poisonous and

    non-poisonous snakes.

  • Pazhassi Dam

    (37K.M. east of kannur ) :

    An ideal retreat for rourists ,the damsite is famous for its scenic

    beauty. The D.T.P.C provides pleasure boating faciliaties at the

    reservoir. Accommodation is available at the Project Inspection

    Bungalow and its dormitories.

    Moppila Bay

    Moppila Bay is a natural fishing

    harbour, lying near Fort St.

    Angelos. A sea wall projecting from

    the fort separates the rough sea and

    inland water. The bay was famous

    during the Kolathiris' regime as a

    commercial harbour that linked

    Kolathunadu with Lakshadweep

    and foreign countriea, in imports.

    Today, Mopilla bay has turned into

    a modernised fishing harbour,

    developed under the Indo-

    Norwegian Pact.

    Dharmadam Island (100 meters away from the mainland at Dharmadam)

    The small 5 acre

    (20,000 m) island

    covered with

    coconut palms and

    dense bushes is a

    beautiful sight

    from the

    Muzhappilangad

    beach. During low

    tide, one can just

    walk to the island

    from the beach. It

    is surrounded by

    rivers and seas.

    Permission is

    required to enter

    this privately

    owned island. Dharmadam, earlier known as Dharmapattanam was a Buddhist stronghold.
