Thank You & Farewell Dear Brothers Knights, I have been trying to discern if God is calling me to contempla-tive life and I am considering joining the Carthusian Order, a cloistered monastic order. Last February, I spent one month on a vocational retreat in a Carthusian monastery, the Char-terhouse of the Transfiguration in Vermont. I shall return there for a new period of discernment lasting seven months, from August 1, 2015, to February 29, 2016. Therefore, I have to be re-placed as the pastor of Christ the King and consequently I have to be replaced as the chaplain of the Father Rosensteel Council. I will pray for all of you. Brother Jack Wade recently retired from our Bingo group after more than 10 years of service, He very seldom missed a Wednesday night with us and travelled 40 miles to and from his home in Highland, MD. Jack we miss you and wish you all the best! Please help us in congratulating Jack Wade for this much deserved award and for his commitment and dedication to the Council and to the Order.

The Horner family has played and continues to play a key role in preparing and serving great food for our annual picnic for over 30 years! As soon as they get our call they are ready to get the menu prepared. Please help us in congratulating the Horner family for this award and for their never ending commitment and dedication to the Council and to the Order!

did not send us His riches (as He was able to do) and revolutionized our situation; instead He became poor like one of us: He “shared” our nothingness. We do charitable work in order to live like Christ. Along with my studies I had a chance by God’s providence to meet a very interesting priest and became imme-diately fascinated by his way of living, his wisdom and happiness. Almost naturally, I asked myself: for whom do you want to offer my life? In “Deus Caritas Est” Benedict XVI said “Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.” This describes my priesthood as a missionary in the Fraternity of Saint Charles Borromeo in Asuncion-Paraguay where I taught in the Catholic University and helped organized charitable activities in a Clinic by serving terminally ill patients, giving them a new dignity and life in the Risen one. Now after two years as parochial vicar in Christ the King I am honored to serve the Knights of Columbus in Rosensteel Council. May God give me wisdom to serve them, guide them toward happiness and sanctify by serv-ing the need of other and discovering that we are the first to be in need of God’s grace. Fr. Ettore Ferrario

DISTRICT DEPUTY TOM KELLY

For the first time in who knows how many years we are below a thousand members. Yes 999 is close to a thousand, but we have lost over 250 members in the last few years. Our State Chaplin recently spoke of a great need among Catholic men to gain spirituality and fraternity to-gether. Sounds like the Knights would be a perfect fit. But why is our Council shrinking? Over the last few years I have noticed a growing rift in the Council that extends past the normal. Members have ridiculed some, created rumors that are not true, taken sides and even vandalized property. If we are truly Catholic gentleman, than we need to start acting like it. No one will want to be part of an organization like that. Our main goal as members is to live a life of Christ as father McGivney saw inherent in lay-men of the church. We need to support our priests and parishes. We need to grow the order

35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and

you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in:

36 Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.

37 Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee?

39 Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee?

40 And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.

OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE ON ROSENSTEEL’S DEGREE TEAM

It is a true maxim that you never have a second chance to make a good first impression; this is espe-cially true as we meet and greet new members. As a state leader in recruiting new Knights of Columbus members Fr. Rosensteel Council is in need of volunteers to serve on various De-gree teams. These important Cere-monials are usually held at the so-cial meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month and last about an hour. The frequency is determined by how many new members are re-cruited. Scripts robes and parapher-nalia are available and are provided to those willing to help in this wor-thy activity. Through almost 100 years of our Councils existence many members have offered and given their time and talent to insure a memorable experience in these important rites of passage in our Order. If interested, please contact Bill Finnin at [email protected], home phone: 301-438-3065 or at the Council on Friday nights were I’m often found at the Council watching a hockey or baseball game. Thank you for your consideration.

FROM OUR GROUPS/TEAMS

INSURANCE AGENT BRIAN GRAHAM April 23 was a significant day for investors who held on to the Power-Shares QQQ (NASDAQ: QQQ) ETF since the days of the dot-com delir-ium. The Nasdaq Composite Index finally surpassed its former all-time high, reached on March 10, 2000, and took QQQ (as it's commonly known) with it. The ETF tracks the Nasdaq 100 index, which contains the largest non-financial companies in the Nasdaq. The QQQ peaked at $105.03 (adjusted for dividends and a split) at the height of the tech bubble, but was worth just $22.02 three years later. It got back over $50 a share right before the Great Recession, but then dropped back to a tad above $25. Finally, more than 15 years later, it's made up all that lost ground. There were no reduction in vales for those who had their money in-vested with the Knights of Colum-bus. Call me at 301.962.0045 and we can discuss it.

MARY’S WIDOWS
