High gang! They seek him here, they seek him there , the roaming Klaxon Editor is every where. From battlefields of Brisbane in May to trenches of Tuart Hill in July, what stamina he must have the masses all do cry! Far removed from the Klaxon Hidey Hole in Gidgegannup, the trusty laptop is at work again turning electronic brain waves into legible pearls. Last month we held our AGM and Super Clubman Of The Year presentation night. The AGM was a straight forward affair with two new uncontested position takers on the clubs ‘Executive committee and even more straight forward Clubman of the Year presentation, due to the deci-sion not to use leading edge technology to keep tally of the votes during the event. No Powerpoint presentations, fridge magnet score boards or upturned tables written on with texta. We know our limitations, well at least until next year.
Back to the AGM, Mr Alan (Woody) Barton Snr, Club Patron chaired the proceedings, keeping control with his monster mallet. Many thanks to Allan Rossi for taking over the Treasurer’s hat from Ian Swin-bourne. Ian did a great job. Thanks Ian. Thanks to Kevin Best for taking on the Presidents position. Thanks to Bob Mulder for his excellent term as president. Mel Broun stays on as Secretary. It would seem a waste for him to step down after just mastering the art of sending me the minutes by email.. Mel did a great job last year too. Peter Hunter retired as the club’s TAC rep for the ASRF Div Council meetings. Thanks to Ken Can Get IT Myers for taking on the job. Club fees remain unchanged. That was it! Easy... The Clubman of the Year proceedings began with the conclusion of the AGM. A few ales and snacks were had to keep things going until the magnificent roast meal main course was ready. By now the women-folk had also gathered to enjoy the proceedings and add to the decibels.
-
MC for the evening was none other than Moi Truly. (that’s Me, not some Citreon driving, frog legs eater). This year’s score board complexities were limited to blank score sheets and pens on each table hat were powered by real brains. Or at least some artificial intelligence. Thanks to those who exercised their cells that night to make it work. Next year, MS, the club’s honorary inventor may have the mother of all scoreboards invented for the night! I have the stage show already happen-ing in my head. How scary is that! Congratulations to Dave Krause for winning again this year and to Allan Rossi for being second. Neil Gibb came third. Many thanks to Graffiti Publications, Drive Publishing and Auto-One Ellenbrook for sponsoring the prizes. Also thanks to the Curnows, Andersons and Ryans from Auto-One for sponsoring some vouchers for the lucky ticket raffle prizes too. The Social Committee also has to be thanked for organizing another great meal and drinks. They have almost perfected the beer. For the final vote tally and more about the night, see deeper into this edition of your Klaxon.
At great expense to the Klaxon office Xmas slush fund, we sent BL1 to Sydney again to report on the rod show and nostalgia drags. Besides taking flat camera batteries to the drags, he did a great job, when he wasn’t frolicking around with his mates and getting pissed. See his contribution later in this Klaxon. For next month, wait with anticipation at your letter box for the next Klaxon with the Born Loser Meeting minutes where quite a few mem-bers get a mention. Will you be in the mix?
Finally, on behalf of all other members, thanks to the retiring committee members who have all done a great job in recent years, and thanks to the guys who volunteered to fill their positions. Especially to Kevin Bloody Best for adding new enthusiasm to the executive committee. So until we meet again on some freezing night, you barely holding me with your out stretched fingers from beneath the warm doona as you read.......take care .

MotorExLique Moly Custom Auto Expo
Sydney 5-6th July 2008
Promoted as the biggest and finest display of Hot Rods and Custom vehi-cles in Australia. This mind blowing section of Motor Ex, now in its 8th year, established itself as the most prestigious gathering of vehicles in Australia.
As usual the extravaganza of glittering chrome and paint more than lived up to expectations.
This show within a show in-corporates the NSW State Ti-tles plus the Meguiar’s Superstars.
The State Titles are managed by the Associated Hot Rod clubs of NSW, consisting of the Romans Hot Rod Club

who have presented shows since the early 60s. After the Rickshaws shows
folded early in 2000 the AHRC assumed control, re-establish-ing with MotorEx at Olympic Park Homebush Bay, about the same time as the Meguiar’s Su-perstars began. The result, a very successful marriage taking craftsmanship to an absolute top elite level for all ASRF class vehicles.
Australia-wide State Title shows are man-aged by private pro-moters but sanctioned and judged by the AS-RF.
The Sydney show brings together Australia’s top Hot Rods, customs and bikes from all the State Title shows. Sadly, for the first time I can recall there were no WA partici-pants this year, may be due to transport costs, since prize money does not fully cover those expenses. Another down-side, because of the elite

level, these show cars have attained, the now humble mid-dle of the road rodder ones are now turning away. This be-
came evident at this year’s show, as only two rod clubs participated. This has been a contentious issue for the Perth show over the last few years,

set-up cost also contrib-ute to the problem.
The only other blemish to the show which defies logic was the resuming of the Nostalgia Drags on the Sunday of the show weekend. Apparently the original date was rained-off, this would have af-fected the show’s profit-ability undermining 12 months of hard work for the show committee.
As usual, the show must go on, the Meguiar’s Su-perstars are –Top Hot Rod – Peter El-liott, 37 Ford RoadsterTop Street Machine – Laurie Sguna, 83 Gemini. [wonders will never cease... Ford and Gemini!!)Ed)

Shannon’s Nostalgia DragsWestern Sydney International Dragway
10th July 2008(Report by our man on the ground, with a pocketful of flat camera batteries)
Shannon’s Nostalgia Drags at Sydney International Dragway, transferred from a previous date because of rain. This rain date unbelievably clashed with the State Title Show, again ended up being canceled due to rain, after only a limited amount of runs.
Western Sydney Dragway, situated at Eastern Creek, is almost a clone of the Kwinana strip (without the speedway). The pit ar-ea is much bigger to accommodate a much larger array of drag cars.
We arrived at the strip about noon after a couple of hours at the Hot Rod Show. The weather was overcast and cold, but fine, the racing had already started. Gas class cars were strutting their stuff, pulling times in the high 11s to low 8s, some awe-some racing never likely to be seen in Perth.
I had run into two mates from my time as a kid in the Road Nights, now a defunct Sydney Hot Rod Club, who now resides in Wagga. John (Nugget) Rice and Eric John-ston had entered a home-built 283 Chev powered Altered. The body from Paul Foley’s 312y block powered ‘T’ Bucket which in the late 60s ran in the 12s. Now Nugget has recreat-ed a nostalgic Altered with a Allan Rossi’s nephew(?) Michael
in an old style T altered.
-
stock small block which has run a best time of 11.2 seconds, just for a bit of fun .
About 2pm threaten-ing dark clouds ap-peared producing enough rain to stop the meet for 2 hours. Most of the time was taken up reviving old times and catching up on the last 20 years. In the mean-
time more ex-club members arrived, bring back more memories. Now time was of essence as there were hun-dreds of cool cars parked in the pit ar-ea for the Show and Shine.
Finally the racing re-started, this time Hot Rod Class with most rods pulling 11s and 12s consis-tently in the Chica-go shoot-out.
Just as the rac-ing was really get-ting interesting, the heavens opened up again, effective-ly ending the meet.
Allan Rossi.

For the want of a story and some photos about your car that can be featured here, I have exercised my Editorial muscle to bring you an update on the Willys Coupe. So send in some info, like now-world-famous Jailbar Joe did last month and I will make you a famous star too! (instead of me)
For the want of . . . . .
Secret test drives under the cloak of darkness. The multi-celled amongst you will recall that the coupe has been converted to 100% gas.
Photographs taken during secret night trials reveal the top secret baked bean convertor mounted to the front bumper of the coupe. Best ET so far on beans, is 10.95 secs in early trials..

Just Like Frank!A man walks into the street and manages to hail a taxi that was passing. Cabbie: "Perfect timing. You're just like Frank." Passenger: "Who?" Cabbie: "Frank Feldman. He's a guy who did everything right - all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happened like that to Frank Feldman every single time." Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody." Cabbie: "Not Frank Feldman. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand-Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone and danced like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano. He was an amazing guy" Passenger: "Sounds like he was something really special" Cabbie: "There's more... He had a memory like a computer. Could remember everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order and which fork to eat them with. He could fix anything. Not like me. I change a fuse and the whole street blacks out. But Frank Feldman, he could do everything right." Passenger. "Wow, some guy then." Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams, not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them. But Frank, he never made a mistake." Passenger. "Mmm, there's not many like him around." Cabbie: "And he really knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good and never answer her back even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always immaculate, shoes highly polished too - he was the perfect man! He never made a mistake. No one could ever measure up to Frank Feldman." Passenger: "An amazing fellow. How did you meet him?" Cabbie: "Well, I never actually met Frank." Passenger: "Then, how do you know so much about him?"
Cabbie: "Unfortunately, I married his f**king widow."

This is how all it started...
I admit it officer... It was my fault. We both pull over to the side of the road, and slowly the driver ofthe car I accidentally hit gets out of his car. . and you know how you just-get-sooo-stressed sometimes? Everything suddenly seems funny. Well, the driver of the car I hit was a DWARF.He gets out of his car, and I get out of my car. He is frowning and scowling and he storms toward me.. Right up close, he looks up in my face and says , "I AM NOT HAPPY !" I don't know what possessed me officer, but I looked down at him and I said, 'Well, if you're not Happy -- which one are you?' ....... And that's when the fight started........
Don’t forget to stop here on your way to the Goulburn Nationals next year!
