    The KMPlayerBeginner manual

    English

  • This manual is for beginners and should explain the work with The KMPlayer in simple steps.

The installation and first configuration has been left behind, as it is just following the steps on the screen. It's also expected that you selected your language. If not Right click > Language.

    Open files

Let's say that the association of file types has been successful. On default you can open a file with double click onto the associated file. It doesn't matter if the KMPlayer is open or not. The playback should start immediately.

You can also use the right click menu:Right click > Open files

    CTRL+O opens the dialog, too.

    Open URL

CTRL+U opens a dialog where you can choose a predefined streaming URL or type an own.

Right click > Open > Open URL does also work.

http:// and mms:// are supported but ftp:// not.

    Close file

    Right click > Close file

    It's equal to stop playback

    Open / Load a playlist

Opening a playlist is the same as opening a file.

    Open playlist editor

ALT+E opens and closes the playlist editor. You see the default playlist that maybe contains a single file or is just empty. Every time you open a file it's loaded into the default playlist. So you should create a new playlist/album.

  • Create a playlist / Add files to playlist (default skin)

Click on the icon that looks like a box or folder. Select new. Give your playlist/album an name like custom or whatever you want to call it. Keep the box Export checked if you want to save your playlist/album. Select where to save it. Default folder is recommended. Note that this file is saved as .kpl. You can rename/copy and delete by clicking the box, too.

Now you successfully created a playlist, but it's empty so lets fill it with some files.

Click the + button to add files, folders and existing playlists. The - button removes selected entries.

    Keep playlist clean

In the previous step you created a playlist/album and filled it with entries. Now you need to keep it clean.

You can move your entries with the mouse or with CTRL+UP / CTRL+DOWN.

Right click in editor > Manage playlist entries > Remove played entriesRemoves entries that have been played.

Right click in editor > Remove dead entriesdoes what it sounds like. It removes every file that has been deleted or moved.

If you know that you have moved a file you can select Replace item with file (Right click > Manage playlist entries) and navigate to the folder you moved it to and choose the file as entry. Useful before you use Remove dead entries.

Start and stop playback / Play file (from playlist)

If you double click on an entry it will be played. You can right click on an entry and select Play.Playback starts also if you press the triangle button that points right or if you use the spacebar. Note that the spacebar also pauses and continues.

Clicking the square button stops playback. CTRL+Z stops the playback, too.

  • Resize window and video

Now that you are able to open and play a file you should know how to resize the window and the video. This also works with audio files and visualization.

Just move the mouse to the edge of the window until an arrow cursor appears. Hold the left mouse button down and drag it around.

    Minimizing and restoring the player

Clicking the button at the top right of the main window that looks like an - minimizes the player. Normally it's minimized to tray. Left clicking on it once will make it appear again.

    Accessing the preferences

The easiest way to access the preferences is pressing F2. Another way is Right click > Options > Preferences

    Stop going to system tray

Go the the preferences (F2) and choose the General entry. Navigate to the General tab and find the entry minimize to system tray. Uncheck it and the KMPlayer will minimize to task bar.

    Change skin

This can be done by selecting it via menu. Right click > Skins

You can also double click on an associated .ksf file.

    Close the KMPlayer

ALT+F4 closes the player. Clicking the X on the main window closes the player, too.

    Right click > EXIT

    Advanced configuration of The KMPlayer

The player is already pre-configured but you can change settings in preferences. There is no best setting that fits everyone's taste. You have to find out what's the best for you.

The advanced English manual could help you to find YOUR configuration. You can download it in the forum. The forum is also helpful in this case.

If you did something wrong you can reset settings by clicking on Reset current preset.
