OPENING NIGHT PERFORMERS: Kristaps Porzingis put up some impressive numbers in the New York Knicks season opener on Oct. 19, 2017 at Oklahoma City. Porzingis’ 31-point effort tied him for the ninth best point performance in Knicks history in a season opener. Porzingis also became the youngest Knick ever to record at least 30-points in the team’s season opener.

BACK-TO-BACKS: New York will play 14 sets on back-to-backs during the 2017-18 season. The 14 back-to-backs is one less than last season’s 15 back-to-backs. New York won both ends of its first set of back-to-backs this season. New York didn’t sweep a single back-to-back all last season.

EARLY AND OFTEN: The New York Knicks played six games in the month of October this season. This is the first time since the 1980-81 season that the Knicks played at least six games in October. During the 1980-81 season, the Knicks played eight games in the month of October. This is the earliest the Knicks opened at home since that same season when the Knicks had their home season opener on Oct. 11, 1980.

HEIGHT 6-9 WEIGHT 235 FROM Kansas State HOMETOWN Prince George's County, MD NBA EXPERIENCE 9 watched Charlotte erase their 14-point lead and take a 95-94 lead with 1:29 left, but then Amar’e Stoudemire took over. The Knicks big man drew a foul and hit a pair of free throws to put New York up one with 1:19 to play and then swatted a Stephen Jackson potential go-ahead dunk with :34.9 remaining, paving the way to game-sealing free throws for New York and their fifth straight win – a 99-95 victory at Time Warner Cable Arena. Raymond Felton, in his return to Charlotte, led New York with 23 points, 13 assists, three rebounds and two steals. Wilson Chandler recorded 21 points and eight rebounds off the bench and Stoudemire added 20 points, six blocks and four rebounds. Charlotte was led by Tyrus Thomas’ 26 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Stephen Jackson added 18 points, four rebounds and four steals. In the first quarter, CHB went on an 11-4 run to turn an 8-8 tie into a 19-12 lead with 4:33 remaining. NY answered with a Felton triple and a pair of Landry Fields buckets to tie the game at 19, before a Boris Diaw triple put CHB up 22-19. NY cut the deficit to one twice over the final 2:30, settling on a 25-24 deficit after 12 minutes. Their second unit took over in the second quarter, behind the stellar play of Bill Walker (eight points) to open up a 40-31 lead with 5:39 to play, following a 16-6 run. CHB answered with a pair of buckets to cut the Knicks lead to five, before a Chandler trey put them back up eight, 45-37, with 4:01 to play. CHB then went on a 9-2 run to cut the Knicks lead to 47-46. NY answered with a Felton layup and Chandler dunk to regain a five-point lead, before a Thomas bucket cut it to 51-48 at the break. Ronny Turiaf opened the second half scoring with a pair of free throws, putting NY up five, before a D.J. Augustin layup cut it to three. NY responded with a 9-2 run for a then game-high 62-52 lead with 8:38 to play. CHB closed within three, 64-61 with 6:24 to play, prior to NY going on a 17-6 run to open up an 81-67 lead with 1:11 to play. A Stoudemire three-point play gave the Knicks the 14-point lead and would prove to be their final points of the quarter, as CHB closed the period with four consecutive points to cut the Knicks lead to 81-71 after 36 minutes. Stoudemire scored 10 points and blocked three shots and Felton posted nine points and four assists to pace the Knicks third-quarter outburst. In the final frame, CHB scored the first four points to continue their run and cut the Knicks lead to six, before a Chandler layup and Toney Douglas trey put them back up 11, 86-75, with 8:42 to play. CHB then went on an 11-1 run, capped off by an Augustin layup with 4:14 to play, cutting the NY lead to 87-86. Felton ended the drought with a pair of floaters, sandwiched between a Gerald Wallace layup, putting NY up 91-89 with 3:29 to play. Thomas dunked CHB to within one with 3:10 to play, but once again NY had an answer – a Chandler triple, putting them up 94-90 with 2:54 to play. CHB finally got over the hump, grabbing a 95-94 lead with 1:29 to play, following a Thomas three-point play. NY answered 10 seconds later with a pair of Stoudemire free throws to go up 96-95 with 1:19 on the clock. On the ensuing possession, Thomas missed a jumper for the Cats, which was followed by a Stoudemire missed jumper. On the ensuing CHB possession came the play of the game, as Stoudemire stuffed a potential Jackson go-ahead jam, and Danilo Gallinari grabbed the rebound with :34.9 left. Fields then went to the line and after hitting the first freebie, rimmed out the second. However, in came a soaring Felton, who grabbed the board and kicked it out to Gallinari, who after being fouled, buried the game-sealing free throws.
