Thank you parents and families for coming to Parent Teacher Conferences. Seven classrooms had every student represented at a conference. The other 17 classroom teachers are still trying to connect with parents so there is still time to meet with your child?s teacher. Please contact your child?s teacher to schedule a conference with them. Our goal is to have 100% of our Dardenne students represented at a Parent Teacher Conference.
Our school attendance continues to trend above our goal. Our overall Average Daily Attendance is 96.5%. We will continue to stress to students the importance of arriving to school on time, coming to school each day, and staying until the last minute of school. We understand your child may need to miss school due to illness. Please contact the school when your child is absent so we can verify their absence. I am very excited about our school attendance. Our kids are doing great.
Please take a look at the curriculum sections of the Knight News. Our ELA and Math Coaches provide important information about what your child is learning while at school. We str ive to provide curriculum information in each edition of the Knight News. You have a lot to offer your child and we value our partnership. A big thank you to the parents who attended our first Parent Night of the school year! Please contact us if you have any questions about our curriculum or the methods and strategies we use. I hope you enjoy this edition of the Knight News.

Fun Mat h Websit e
Looking for some fun ways to practice math with your child? Try gregtangmath.com. This site is full of FREE games and resources for students of all grade levels. This site requires students to reason in order to solve puzzles or win points. Math reasoning is a skill that all children need to develop to become strong problem solvers. This school year, students will be exploring more on the site during the school day. Have them show you what they have done and talk about the different ways people can solve a problem.
Sincerely,Ms. Hawkins (Math coach)
Students get 25-30 minutes every day to read independently after the reading lesson. Children tend to be more motivated to read the entire time when they have a variety of books to choose from. To foster the avid reader in your child, consider having a variety of books in your home library. Below are some tips to get you started.
Kids love to read all sorts of materials. In addition to books, you could collect magazines, poems, travel brochures, maps, and programs from musical performances and plays.
It's important to have some books that are easy for your child to read, but it's also good to have some that can be read most successfully with an adult. This balance enables your child to feel confident with some books, and grow as a reader with others.
An inviting library is organized. A few ways to organize books are by topic, genre, author, and series. Sometimes kids like to see the title of the book as they search, so books could be stored in baskets. Find economical ways to add to your collection: book swaps, yard sales, buy/sell/ trade sites, public library sale, and used book stores.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Henderson (ELA coach)
