One day, a man went to visit a church; He got there early, parked his car and got out. An-other car pulled up near the driver got out and said, “I always park there! You took my place!” The visitor went inside for Mass, found an empty seat and sat down. A young lady from the church approached him and stated, “That's my seat! You took my place!” The visitor was some-
what distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing. He then walked to another area and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, “That's where I always sit! You took my place!” The visitor was even more troubled by this treat-ment, but still, He said nothing. Later as the parishioners were praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars be-came visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from the congregation noticed him and called out, “What hap-pened to you, and who are you?” The visitor replied, as his hat became a crown of thorns, and a tear fell from his eye, “I am the One who took your place.”

Divine Mercy Sunday
Deacon Roger Gallagher
On the 28th of April, the Sunday after Easter, we celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy. It arises out of a se-ries of apparitions which a Polish nun, Sr. Faustina re-
ceived. Sr. Faustina was born in Poland in 1905. When she was twenty years old, she entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy where she lived for the next thirteen years until her death on October 5th, 1938. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1993 and canonized in 2000.
During her canonization, Pope John Paul II said: “Today my joy is truly great in pre-senting the life and witness of Sr. Faustina to the whole Church as a gift of God for our time. By Divine Providence, the life of this humble daughter of Poland was completely linked with the history of the twentieth cen-tury, the century we have just left behind. In fact, it was between the First and Second World Wars that Christ entrusted His mes-sage of Mercy to her. Those who remember, who were witnesses and participants in the events of those years and the horrible suf-ferings they caused for millions of people know well how necessary was the message of mercy.”
St. Faustina was privileged to receive apparitions from Jesus emphasizing His mer-cy, and especially His mercy on Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus promised that those who go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on Di-vine Mercy Sunday will receive not only for-giveness of their sins, but the total remission of all temporal punishment for their sins. It is like a second Baptism, all sin and punish-ment is wiped out. It is what the Church calls a plenary indulgence. We can obtain this in-dulgence for ourselves or apply them to a loved one who has passed away. It should be pointed out that going to confession is not the only way to prepare ourselves for this feast. We are also to be merciful, to perform acts of mercy. Jesus told Sr. Faustina: “I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere by deed, by word or by prayer. So, Knights, can you think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? See you in Church after the 12:00 Mass on April 28th.

“As we begin the month of May, we have only 2 Months left in this Fraternal Year, to Pick-Up the pace in Recruiting new mem-bers into your Council’s. All Coun-cils Grand Knight’s need to talk with their Pastor and get permis-
sion for a Church Membership Drive. ‘Spring is in the air and this is a great opportunity to recruit. We all know at least one person that attends mass or a friend that “Will Join if you Just Ask”. Brothers, it’s our obligation to go out there and tell our story to fellow Parish-ioners’ and our Friends of “Why we Join” and since becoming a member of the Knight of Co-lumbus, we grew closer to our Faith. By grow-ing our Councils in membership, we can do more to “Feed the Hungry, Clothes the Needy, Show Public Support for the Right to Life and support our Priest, Bishops and our Parish”. Brother Knights and their Family need to move closer to our Faith. Why not have a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration inviting the men of the Parish along with their wives to join the Knights in a Communal Rosary. Have Knights at the doors to greet them and hand
everyone a pray card for the Canonization of Venerable Fr. Michael J. McGivney and an eMembership Card as they enter the church. “After the Rosary, invite them to join you in the pray for Canonization of Fr. Michael McGivney our Founder. “May is the earliest to send in your Columbian Report application. Just a reminder that there is changes to re-flect the “Faith in Action” service programs. Before sending your council Columbian Report in “Please ask our State SP-7 Coordinator Richard Powers and myself to review it for omission or for any additional advice.

The celebration of Tom Rueck’s career with the Knights of Columbus, Council 14222. Tom has served under five Grand Knights, three of which spoke at his departure ceremony. Pictured in the top left is a back pack (donated by Council) with the names of those who served with Tom over the years. This was very appropriate as Tom headed the back pack program for many years. Next we have Tom trying a winter coat donated to him as he is leaving us to be with his family in New Jersey. Helping Tom try on the coat is Judy Becker (wife of Faithful Navi-gator, Gerry Becker) and Norm Nelson. Norm was also instrumental in obtaining the back pack for Tom. The picture on top right shows Tom and his wife Mary Jean receiving a certificate from Grand Knight William Delaney. The certificate was for Family of the Year. Bottom picture shows FN Gerry Becker, GK Bill Delaney and DGK Peter Casey with a throw also given to Tom by the Council. Picture on bottom right shows the two cakes served after a pulled pork and potato salad dinner to seventy four attending guests. Many of our members spoke highly of Tom during the presentations. He will be missed.
