We need to pray that others are respectful of one another as tensions are often running high. As an interdependent society, we rely on people and government officials from different counties, states, and other countries for our health and safety, which is extremely scary. We need to pray that decisions are made in the best interest of all citizens. While we are at it, we need to pray for one another. Many of us are at high risk for infection and need to be protected from the virus. Soon, we will be able to attend Mass together. GRAND KNIGHT’S COMMENTS – Jeff Fry [email protected]

Brother Knights and families: The significance and value of prayer has rarely been as important in our society as it is right now; in our local community, state, nation, and world. Locally, we have a lot to be thankful for as we are working our way through this pandemic. We have a lot to pray for as well, as our families continue to be at risk of infection as loved ones go back to work (if they ever stopped), and many of us begin to participate in the opening of the economy. Cash Club to Begin Sales for 2020-21!

Our Cash Club fundraiser will kick off for 2020-2021 this month! As you know, this program is our

primary fundraiser. As well as providing money for our charity account it also provides operating expense

money. The Covid-19 crisis has forced us to cancel many programs. Among those cancelled was our Spring

Casino bus trip. This was a major fundraiser for the council. Also, we don’t have the advantage of selling tickets

after Mass at this time which may severely impact our income.

So, now we need all members to double down on ticket sales for the Cash Club. Tickets are $20 each from Bill

Forshey. We draw a $100 winner each month and four extra $50 winners, two at the parish picnic and two at the

“Breakfast with Santa.” Tickets are returned to the drum after each drawing allowing for multiple chances to

win. Help your council replenish the Charity account by selling Cash Club tickets.

OFFICERS ELECTION

The Officers Election will be held at the June 9th meeting. Please take time to review the slate at the

bottom of the newsletter. The June meeting may still be held on Zoom. If you cannot get on Zoom and

want to submit a ballot or write-in a candidate, contact Ralph Conrad.

MASS ON-LINE

Prince of Peace Masses are now on-line. Special thanks to Fr. Bob and Bill Forshey, the

videographer, for putting the Masses online on for us! They can be found on the parish web page.

The council voted membership approval for Justin Meyers at the meeting. Justin will complete his

degree exemplification with Br. Anthony Rinaldo in the near future.

Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.

COUNCIL DONATES TO BACM

The council voted to donate $1000 to Barberton Area Community Ministries (BACM). In its

presentation to the council, the Charity Committee felt that this donation will help many local

people in this time of great need due to Covid-19. As it turns out, this suspicion was right on as

you will see below. The donation was to be made in two $500 installments. The first $500 donation has already

been made. CHARITy

As you might expect, BACM has been recently inundated by an influx of clients, many of whom had never

needed food pantry assistance. Clients have more than doubled since March. The strain on the system has been

great. The Soup Kitchen is also closed at this time so now more than ever clients are relying on BACM. In April

BACM gave out enough food for 25,605 meals!

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP??

BACM has an immediate need for pastas such as spaghetti, macaroni, rotini, etc. (No boxed

mac & cheese or spaghetti sauce are needed at this time!) They just really need the dry pasta

products as it seems that BACM is not able to procure these items in bulk for its program.

So, this is where YOU can help!

The council will hold a pasta collection on Friday, May 22nd

, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the church

parking lot. It will be a drive-by collection; you won’t even have to get out of your car! A few

Knights will be there to take your donations. If you can’t make it that day, call Bill Forshey, Mike

Breiding, or Ralph Conrad. Cash donations will also be accepted. BACM can purchase 30# of meat

for $5.42 so your cash donation goes a long way!

As you probably have seen, Supreme enacted a new Degree program, the new Exemplification of

Charity, Unity and Fraternity. This new ceremony teaches our time-honored principles in a way that is

appropriate for today. One of the main benefits for the council is that a man can complete all 3 Degrees in

one short presentation. This will allow him to immediately be able to become an officer should he so desire.

Three of our members, Dan Askew, Kellen Otradovec, and Dan Turner, have taken advantage of the new

degree program and are now 3rd

Degree Knights. Congratulations, men!

CHURCHES RE-OPENING SOON

On Tuesday, the Diocese of Cleveland announced that public worship will be allowed to resume beginning Monday, May 25th. However, just like other businesses and organizations preparing to reopen, churches must follow guidelines outlined to ensure the safety of churchgoers.

To help, the Diocese has put together a guide for each part of the mass attending process, "before," "during" and "after." Each section follows the primary social distancing guidelines including, but not limited to limiting attendance and enforcing physical distancing. (Masks will be required at POP) The Diocese has also extended the general dispensation from the Sunday and holy day obligation. So many Catholics fall into high-risk categories, are fearful of crowds, or have family members with compromised health.

A WORD FOR SENIORS:

The Covid-19 Virus has messed up your graduation year. No doubt about that. We feel your pain. Every young generation

has some crisis or tragedy to contend with. Here are just some of the past events that have changed people’s lives:

WW I 1914 - 1918

Great Depression 1929 – 1939

WW II 1939 - 1945

Korean War 1950 – 1953

Vietnam War 1965 – 1975

Stock Market Crash 1987

Dot Com Crash 2000 - 2002

Great Recession 2008 - 2009

Covid-19 2020 - ??

At your future class reunions you’ll be sharing stories and pictures of people in masks going about their daily tasks.

However this turns out, you’ll be OK!!

As John Lennon said "Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."
