KNITTING
Knitting is interloping of yarn to form a fabric. It is 3d fabric bought and sold by weight or
tube (in gms or kg).

STRUCTURE
COURSE A course is a series of successive loops lyingcrosswise of a knit fabric , thatis,at right angles to a linepassing through the open
throat to the closed end of theloop.
WALES
Wale refers to a column of loops that are parallel to loopaxis. The wales also runparallel to the longmeasurement of a knit fabric.

TYPES OF KNITS
WEFT KNITTING
When the yarns areintroduced in a crosswisedirection, at right angles tothe direction of growth of the fabric, and run or
interlock across the fabric, All the loops in one course
are produced from singlesupply and loops areformed in successive order one by one.

Four basic stitches used in
manufacturing weft knits:
Knit and purl stitches
The knit stitch is just pulling
a loop of yarn through an
existing loop on the
needle. Pulling it through
with the yarn in the back
creates the knit stitch.
Pulling it through withthe yarn in front creates
the purl stitch.

KNITTED PILE FABRIC
Based on double knit technique
An extra set of yarn is drawn out of loops
and left cut or uncut.

Tuck stitch is made when a needle takes a
new loop without clearing the previouslyformed loop, so that loops are accumulated
on the needles.

Miss stitch is produced by a needle holding
the old loop (the needle is not raised, which
effectively means the needle is missed),
while the adjacent needles are raised and
cleared to produce a new knitted loop.

Warp knitting
A warp knit fabric isconstructed with manyyarns that form loopssimultaneously in thelengthwise (warp)direction. Each yarn iscontrolled by its ownneedle, and interlockedwith neighbouring yarnsin zigzag fashion.
This interlockingproduces fabrics thatare usually runproof andhave limitedstretchability

TRICOT WARP KNITTING Each warp yarn is knitted by one needle. All the
needles of the machine are mounted in one
needle bar. When the needle bar is activated, all needles
act in unison to produce stitches simultaneouslyfrom parallel warp yarns.
These parallel ladders of stitches are heldtogether and are not a multitude of fine, parallel,
looped yarns, each independent andunattached.

Raschel fabrics: Theprinciple of knitting inraschel knits is identicalto tricot knits.
The significantdifferences between tricotand raschel are thatraschel knittingmachinery utilizes latchneedles rather thanspring beard needles
Fabrics ranging from finelaces to heavy blanketsand even carpets can beproduced. Interested
surface effects and threedimensional effects canalso be produced. Spunand filament yarns of allcounts and deniers canbe used.
