Blood PressureBlood pressure is the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls called arteries. Blood pressure is recorded as systolic (top number) over diastolic (bottom number). The systolic reading is the pressure when the heart contracts whereas the diastolic reading is the pressure when the heart rests between beats.

Low Risk 120 / 80Medium Risk 131-139 / 81-89High Risk 140+ / 90+

Many factors can affect your blood pressure such as age, ethnicity, gender, diet, exercise, and smoking. Blood pressure changes — so if it is high once, you should monitor it more closely. Check your blood pressure two more times during different times of the day to see if it remains high. If your blood pressure is consistently high, we recommend following up with your family doctor.

* See the back panel for steps to find a family doctor.

PSA TestA PSA test is a simple blood test that may help in the early detection of prostate cancer. PSA, or Prostate Specific Antigen, is a protein produced by the prostate gland and released in small amounts to the blood stream. Calgary’s Prostate Cancer Centre recommends men should have a baseline PSA test every 5 years starting at age 40, or annually if there is a family history of prostate cancer. Both the PSA and digital rectal exam (DRE) are recommended. After ago 50, both the PSA and DRE should be done annually.

Blood SugarBlood sugar is the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Glucose is important because the cells in your body use it as their primary source of energy. If your body is not able to properly control blood sugar levels, you may require treatment.

Normal Range 3.3 mmol/L - 11.1 mmol/L

Waist CircumferenceCarrying excess body fat around your midsection is more of a health risk than carrying it on your hips and thighs. Waist circumference gives an estimate of visceral fat, which is the potentially dangerous fat around your organs.

Normal Range < 102 cm (40 inches)

A waist circumference greater than 102 cm for males can be associated with health problems such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

* Please note that this is an awareness program for your health. We still recommend standard appointments with your health care professionals.

Thank you for visiting the MAN VAN™. Our team of clinical professionals will be conducting the following tests in the VAN:

1 day - 49 years 0.00 - 2.5μg/L

50 - 59 years 0.00 - 3.5μg/L

60 - 69 years 0.00 - 4.5/μg/L

70 - 150 years 0.00 - 6.5μg/L

Mental WellnessDepression is a common medical condition that affects how a person thinks, feels and behaves. The PHQ-9 questionnaire (Stress Check) asks about common symptoms of depression. Experiencing these symptoms does NOT diagnose depression, only a qualified health care provider can do that. Symptoms like these can be part of the normal ups and downs of life but a higher score may indicate the presence of symptoms that could be depression or other mental or physical health conditions. Anyone scoring 10 or more on the PHQ-9 should see their health care provider who can perform an appropriate examination to identify what the cause might be.
