Fair Trade goods have been expanding
across markets since they first became
commercialized in the late 1940s.
Since then, we have continuously increased
the amount of Fair Trade products we sell and
buy while implementing certification and
standardization bodies for Fair Trade products.
Despite these efforts, a global protocol is still
lacking, and many workers are still exploited.
Recently we have seen a push to solve this
problem by making procurement logistics—as
well as factory, farming, and labor conditions—
completely transparent. Whether designed by
social entrepreneurs or concerned citizens,
tools that make the chain of production
transparent are slowly changing standards.
Imagine a world where you are able to see the
person who constructed your iPhone for you in
China, just as we know the clerk in the local
store where we shop for groceries.3

Game players suggested ways to make labor violations and concerns
knowable to the consumer.
From creating apps that show you how your product arrived in your local store to
building Internet tools that allow workers around the world to tell their stories on a
global scale, these ideas—when coupled with real-world examples of companies
already making their entire chain transparent—have the potential to revolutionize
Fair Trade.

Supply chains are so wildly confusing and so critical to understanding responsible buying. An online game that helps teach this'd be awesome

Quirky is a crowdsourced design and production company that allows the crowd to co-create new items they then produce. As part of their working model, Quirky employs total transparency, letting co-creators know what is happening with their products from the beginning to the end.
Free2Work
Free2Work has built an app that provides consumers with information on how their favorite brands relate to labor abuses such as child labor and slave labor. Free2Work assigns a grade to companies, offering a quick way to measure their labor standards.
