Lorraine-Vosges

Lorraine, Vosges, is on the North-East of France near Germany. It is about 350 Km

from Paris.

The area suffered from both World Wars. Thousands of people were killed in the

field of the battle.

Autumn celebrations and activities

Halloween is celebrated on the 31st October. Children dress in scary costumes and

try to scare people. They also visit houses and say: “Trick or treat”

St Nicolas In France Saint Nicolas comes primarily in Alsace, Lorraine, Nord-Pas-de-Calais,

and Brittany

A little donkey carries baskets filled with children's gifts and treats.

The whole family gets ready for the saint's arrival on December 6, with grandparents telling stories of the saint.

The most popular one is of three children who wandered away and got lost. Cold and hungry, a wicked butcher lured them into his shop where he attacked and salted them away in a large tub. Through the intervention of St. Nicolas the boys were restored to their families.

This story led to Nicolas being recognized as the protector of children. In France statues and paintings often portray this event, showing the saint with children in a barrel. The evil butcher became Père Fouettard, who has followed St Nicolas in shame ever since. This story is also a popular French children's song.

Winter celebrations and activities

Ski is a very popular sport in whole France. There are over 250 ski resorts in the

country and all the family loves it!

Christmas celebrations are very important. The birth of Jesus on the 25th

December, the Bonne annee on 1st January and the Epiphany on 6th January bring

joy to the people!

Spring celebrations and activities

Easter is the religious celebration of spring. A favourite activity, especially for

younger children, is looking for Easter eggs!

Kanoe-Kayak is popular in the region!

Ingredients for quiche lorraine

For the pastry

175g/6oz plain flour, plus extra for dusting salt 75g/2¾oz butter, plus extra for greasing (alternatively use ready made pastry)

For the filling

250g/9oz English cheddar, grated 4 tomatoes, sliced (optional) 200g/7oz bacon, chopped 5 eggs, beaten 100ml/3½fl oz milk 200ml/7fl oz double cream salt freshly ground black pepper 2 sprigs of fresh thyme

1. To make the pastry, sift the flour together with a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Rub in the butter until you have a soft breadcrumb texture. Add enough cold water to make the crumb mixture come together to form a firm dough, and then rest it in the fridge for 30 minutes.

2. Roll out the pastry on a light floured surface and line a 22cm/8½inch well-buttered flan dish. Don't cut off the edges of the pastry yet. Chill again.

3. Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5. 4. Remove the pastry case from the fridge and line the base of the pastry with

baking parchment and then fill it with baking beans. Place on a baking tray and bake blind for 20 minutes. Remove the beans and parchment and return to the oven for another five minutes to cook the base

5. Reduce the temperature of the oven to 160C/325F/Gas 3. 6. Sprinkle the cheese into the pastry base and add the sliced tomatoes if you

are using them. Fry the bacon pieces until crisp and sprinkle over them over the top.

7. Combine the eggs with the milk and cream in a bowl and season well. Pour over the bacon and cheese. Sprinkle the thyme over the top and trim the edges of the pastry.

8. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until set. Remove from the oven and allow to cool and set further.

9. Trim the pastry edges to get a perfect edge and then serve in wedges.

Norway history And now I’m going to tell you about the most

important things in Norway history.The Viking age was between year 800 and

1100.Norway was not a country in the Viking age, it

was a lot of small countries.

In the year 1300,Norway did an alliance with Denmark and Sweden.

In 1814 Norway's constitution was adopted.

It became an independent country in 1905

In the mid 1800s, people worked in the country, but with the arrival of technology, people went to work in towns, more precisely in

factories.

The second world war started in September 1939,Norway was occupied by German troups.

Norway was among the first country to join the UN organization.

In 1969 the first discovery of oil well was made. Norway is a big producer of petrol

Norway is the country in the world that exports the most oil.

Norway is now a democracy with a high level of life, Norway has a good economy.

on the 17th May 1814. It was the second oldest constitution in the world. Then, it

Hadeland's Glassverk

Hadeland Glassverk is a visitor center and a glass factory in the place called Jevnaker.

It's on the South out of lake Randsfjorden.The Glassverk was founded in 1762. It's Norway's biggest industry.

The center consists of a glass house, a glass museum, souvenir shops, 2 eating places and an art gallery. They also have animals and activities for kids in the summer.

There are two churches in Bjoneroa. They are close to each other.

People don't really know why there are two churches but the most popular explication is it's two sisters who built the churches, one for each one.

It is not unusual to have 2 or 3 churches in the same place in Norway.

There are many small and large lakes.

The water surfers have an area of nearly 10 000 km².

In winter it is possible to go skiing.

Bjoneroa is located 389km over sea level.Bjoneroa is a popular area. There are over 10 000 visitors annualy.

Bjoneroa has places for bonfire, and has plenty of room for many tents.

You must have 16 years old to have a fishing licence.

History of Greece

In ancient Greece there was much focus on the gods and

the goddesses, in their daily lives. Greece has also

nutured many of the well-known old philosophes, like

Aristoteles, Sokrates. Some of the old well-known

mathematics also came for Greece. People such as

Phytagoras.

Greece was not recognized as a independent state before 1830.

There has been political unstablilty throughout the years, and in 1945 –

1949 there was civil war. The war ended with

communist downfall. This lead to Greece joining

NATO. The monarchy fell in 1973. Sinse then it has

been two leading political partyes, Socialist PASOK

and the conservative New Democracy.

Korisos is a quite big village, which is 15km away

from Kastoria. It has 1.350 residents.

Melissotopos is a small village with over

200 residents. A river flows through the

village. It is located 26km away from Kastoria.

Basiliada:

Basiliada is a village located at the feet of a

mountain and 20km away from Kastoria. It has

350 residents.

Lithia:

Lithia is a village that has 300 residents.

Kastoria is 20 km away and Korisos is 4 km away.

reached Kastoria between the 10th and 14th

centuries AD when in Constantinople emperors

and other lords wore fur as a public show of

status. Fur as a trade developed many centuries

later when fur fashion dazzled high societies in all

of Europe’s

major cities.

Moving into the

20th century, fur

went through

unprecedented

popularity and

furriers worked

day and night to export

Kastoria made fur coats to all

based businesses set in the

basements of their byzantine

mansions, furriers designed,
