All about K-Levels or learning Objectives extensively talked during prestigious certifications

Let us delve upon the various skill levels or knowledge levels for the testing industry being designated asK-Levels.

    What are K-Levels of knowledge?

K-Levels or Knowledge Levels basically refers to the prescription of an upper limit of skills or knowledgeessential for a particular certification.

Hierarchy of K-Levels is described in globally recognized Blooms Texonomy of learning. Reaching aparticular K-Level means that the individual has successfully achieved some measurable & meaningfulobjectives. How many K-Levels or learning objectives do we when talking about test certification?K-Levels begins at K-1 being the kindergarten level of learning in testing & ending up at K-6 withspecialized knowledge as described below:

    Level Area of Objectives toAchieve

Sample Examples to explain theabilities acquired

    K - 1 Knowledge orRemembering

It means that theaspirant shall be ableto recognize, remember and recall aconcept or a term.

Aspirant shall be able to recognize thedefinition of a "failure" like:

    # "Actual deviation of the system or itscomponents from its expected delivery, service or result".

    Or

    # "Non-delivery of service to an end user orany other stakeholder"

    K - 2 Comprehension

    orunderstanding

It means that theaspirant shall be able

to select the reasonsor explanations forstatements related tothe topic, and cansummarize, compare, classify and giveexamples for thetesting concept.

Aspirant shall be able to explain:

Example 1: The reason why tests shouldbe designed as early as possible:

    # To find the most important defects first.

    # To find defects when they are cheaper toremove.

Example 2: The differences andsimilarities between integration and systemtesting:

    # Differences: integration-testing

concentrates on interfaces andinteractions, and system testingconcentrates on whole-system aspects, such as end to end processing.

    # Similarities: testing more than onecomponent, and can test non-functionalaspects.

    K - 3 Application

It means that theaspirant shall be ableto select the correctapplication of aconcept or techniqueand apply the

knowledge alreadylearnt to a anothergiven context.

    Aspirant shall be able to:

    # Select test cases from a given statetransition diagram in order to cover alltransitions.

    # Identify boundary values for valid andinvalid partitions.

    K - 4 Analysis

It means that theaspirant shall be ableto separate theinformation related toa concept or techniqueinto its constituentparts for betterunderstanding, andcan distinguishbetween facts and

    inferences.

    Aspirant shall be able to:

    # Describe which portions of an incidentreport are factual and which are inferredfrom the results.

    # Understand the various options availablefor risk identification.

    K - 5 Synthesis

It means that theaspirant shall be ableto identify and buildpatterns in facts andinformation related toa concept ortechnique, and cancreate new meaning orstructure from parts ofa concept.

    Aspirant shall be able to:

    # Design a quality risk analysis processeswhich includes both rigorous and informalelements.

    # Create a blended test strategy, whichuses a dynamic strategy to balance ananalytical strategy. Can combine aspects of different reviewprocesses to form an effective process fortheir organization.

    K - 6 Evaluation

It means that theaspirant can judge thevalue of informationand decide on itsapplicability in a givensituation.

    Aspirant shall be able to:

    # Find out the type of information thatshould be gathered for an incident report.

    # Find out the relative effectiveness andefficiency of different review processes ordifferent testing techniques.

    Best of Luck !!!
