As I look at the calendar, we only have 5 months left before the Kodiak State Fair & Rodeo which is over Labor Day weekend! I hope you are working on crafts and projects that you can enter into the fair and show off what you learned! Keep up with your Record Books too so it isn’t so daunting at the end of the season trying to remember what you did, where you were and to document your experiences. If you need help, ask your project leader! Watch the Kodiak 4-H Facebook page for other fun summer opportunities! Summer Camps are getting scheduled and Horse is preparing to start lessons for those who own or lease a horse. Later in the summer its fun to watch and volunteer to help at the Horse Show too! So with all the fun coming up, I am sorry to say but this will be my last post as the Kodiak 4-H Program Assistant. My last day is scheduled for Fri-day, April 15th. I have decided to continue helping with the Archery project since we are low on instructors so I will be around for those lingering ques-tions. Hopefully we can get a replacement hired soon but its up to the Uni-versity, so watch for updates on that. As I said before, this has been a very hard decision and I enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful people. Its been a great experience, and I have been able to create some wonderful memories and stories! I want to be sure to thank our Adult Leaders for volunteering their time and to help this great program succeed. It would not exist without you, your energy, strength, or-ganization and commitment to our youth. I am thankful that I had the op-portunity to work with all of you!

Updates from the Office by Jen Hagen, 4-H Program Assistant

SHOOTING SPORTS - ARCHERY... led by Jen Hagen and Judy Hamilton (Nancy has officially stepped down as leader of this group. We are working on getting a trainer scheduled that but may not happen until September. If you are a Teen or Adult interested in taking the Leader Training, please let us know so we can notify everyone once a training is scheduled.)

The first meeting back on Feb. 6th covered archery safety basics, recognizing the different bows and naming the parts of the bows. The second meeting March 19th went very well and we got to shoot! After a safety review for some newcomers, we covered eye domi-nance, range procedures including verbal and whistle commands and archery specific stretches. The next ARCHERY meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd, 10:00am to 11:30am. We will be working on proper shooting form and talk about a field trip. Meet at the Baptist Mission gym, please be sure to wear long sleeved shirt (nothing baggy), no jewel-ry, tie long hair back and no open toed shoes. SHOOTING SPORTS - RIFLE... led by Velma Vining The first project meeting was on Saturday, March 19th that went very well! Next meet-ings are scheduled for Saturday, April 9th and again Saturday, April 23rd. Be ready to shoot starting promptly at 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Parents are encouraged to stay and help; man-datory if your child is a younger or new shooter please. Bring a snack and drink with you! SMALL ANIMALS… led by Libby Eufemio & Judy Hamilton Thank you to the great group of 4-H members who helped out at the St. Mary’s Easter Bazaar! You raised some funds for the group and made a lot of kids and parents smile being able to get a picture with the Easter Bunny AND hold a live bunny! What a great event! The SMALL ANI-MALS group is busy with an upcoming visit to Bells Flats Poultry on Saturday, April 9th at 3:00pm. More details will be posted on the Fa-cebook page. If you missed out helping at the East Bazaar, there is a second opportunity coming up! The SMALL ANIMALS group will have a table with a mini petting zoo at the Children’s Fair on Saturday, April 16th. Volunteers are needed from 10:00am-2:00pm at the Baptist Mission Gym. Come hold a bunny or chicken and share them with young children and their families.
