PROGRAM OVERVIEWS

» THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (BSBA)

» THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ACCOUNTING (BSA)

» THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS, LANGUAGE, AND CULTURE STUDIES (BLC)

All undergraduate programs within Kogod provide a balanced approach to business education by progressively building knowledge within and across academic disciplines. Kogod’s curriculum is flexible and provides students with the opportunity to combine their passion for business with interests in other academic areas through interdisciplinary study.

The BSBA is designed to teach core business skills while expanding technological literacy and building global perspective. The core skills include finance, accounting, information systems and technology, international business, management, and marketing.

Students then tailor their degrees by specializing in specific business disciplines. BSBA students may also add a second major or a minor from a different academic area.

BSA graduates will be well prepared for accounting careers in public accounting or in a variety of organizations—industrial, financial, governmental, nonprofit, or consultancies. Students completing the BSA may be eligible to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination in certain states. Additional credit hours will be required for CPA licensure. You’ll want to review specific state requirements and consult with an academic advisor as you plan your electives or, consider the Kogod MS Accounting program.

The BLC is offered in partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences. If international business excites you, this four-year, interdisciplinary program prepares you with solid academics and strong proficiency in the foreign language and culture of your choice. Languages include Arabic, French, German, Russian, or Spanish.

We recommend that students entering the program have intermediate language skills. Upon completion of the program, you’ll be ready for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ATCFL) oral proficiency interview, which assesses functional speaking ability in your chosen language. Strong marks give you an advantage when you’re seeking employment at academic institutions, government agencies, and private corporations. You’ll also be well prepared to earn regional fluency certificates, such as that offered by the French Chamber of Commerce.

K-LAB provides real-world experiences that enhance intellectual development, leadership, and communication skills, as well as professional self-confidence. Get involved in the energetic Undergraduate Business Association or join one of many student-run clubs or organizations—or form a new one.

» THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS AND ENTERTAINMENT (BAE)

» THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN FINANCE (BSF)

» DOUBLE EXPOSURE

» 5-YEAR MASTER’S PROGRAMS MAXIMIZE YOUR TIME

The BAE program is unique to Kogod and American University. Designed for students who want careers in the entertainment industry, the BAE program offers an integrated curriculum that thoroughly covers core business skills while also providing students a foundation for understanding the complex world of copyright, content production, live performance, talent representation, and more. BAE students complete the business core curriculum and choose a track in Agency, Audio Technology, Film, or Music Performance. Students can also choose to build a custom track, such as Sports Event Management or Sports Marketing.

Students can select from elective credits built into the BAE curriculum, such as performance or production, or from business-related studies in areas like accounting, management, or marketing. Additionally, BAE students leverage their academic experience in a series of for-credit internships or work at the student-run record label to further develop their know-how and foster the connections they need to get started in a successful career.

The BSF is designed to prepare students for professional financial careers in industrial, financial, governmental, nonprofit, and consulting organizations. Students completing the BSF will be well prepared to sit for the first level of the Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Financial Planning (CPF) exams, as well as able to continue into Kogod's MS Finance program.

Exemplary students have the opportunity to continue their education in one of Kogod's combined bachelor of science and master of science (BS/MS) programs. BS/MS programs may be completed in five years and include graduate study options in accounting, finance, marketing, real estate, sustainability, or taxation.

Interdisciplinary education is a hallmark of the AU undergraduate experience. A majority of Kogod majors will elect to pursue diverse academic interests by selecting a second major or minor from another AU school or college.

Early planning and guidance from academic advisors in both programs enable students to complete the double major in four years, and to take full advantage of other undergraduate experiences, such as internships and international study.
