What is Konkan? Konkan is a coastal region of Maharashtra which is spread across four districts, namely, Thane, Raigad , Ratnagiri , Sindhudurga. People of Konkan are called as Konkanis .

Konkan This word is derived from a Sanskrit word. A Kum represents mother earth and kana represents dust or an atom. Over years worshippers of mother earth are called as Konkanis. It can be said that early generation of Konkanis were farmers.

Land of Konkanis is called Coconut Nation Because 1. Diet 2. Health supplement 3. Roofs & shells 4. Fuel 5. Children s toys 6. Etc.

Konkani culture The culture of Konkan is recently suffered by Westernization. It is difficult for Konkani language to survive in the future. People from dominant religions use to talk their language. Konkani migrated to other cities, do not follow Konkani culture.

Food Rice is the key part of the diet of Konkanis. Most of the Konkanis prefer fish in their food. Sea food & vegetables are also preferred. They eat chicken or mutton occasionally.

Konkan Cuisine Konkan Cuisine is strong in spice, Red chilly powder, corianders & prepared with Coconut oil. Is of two styles-Brahmin style

Non Brahmin style Malvani recipes are very famous.

About Gauri pooja Gauri Pooja is performed differently according to the regions of Maharashtra. Three main types of performing the Gauri pooja are Mukhavathyachya Gauri(the idol having the face of metal or clay), Khadyachya Gauri(worshipping five stones as Gauri) & Terdyachya Gauri(worshiping the tree/branch of Balsam/ Terda as Gauri). Some people worship pictures of Gauri.
