In the previous issue about growth, we shared our pride for the huge development of our company. In this issue we want to highlight how we are doing it: by maintaining high, internationally renowned

quality. In the last few months, we have received an amazing number of awards for our service, infrastructure, standards, and sustainable business model from greatly prestigious international organizations.

Generations Riviera Maya, El Dorado Casitas Royale and El Dorado Seaside Suites received the AAA 4 Diamonds Award; and El Dorado Royale and Azul Sensatori Mexico gained the renewal of the same award. Our gastronomic pearl, Le Chique, earned the coveted AAA 5 Diamonds Award. The MLT Quality Award recognized Azul Sensatori Mexico, El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Casitas Royale, and El Dorado Seaside Suites. We received the Green Globe Sustainability Leader Award directly from Guido Bauer CEO and owner of Green Globe, an unprecedented award due to our focus on sustainability; and El Dorado Royale greenhouse earned the Rainforest Alliance re-certification. The Insiders Select Expedia 2014 ranking named El Dorado Royale one of the best 6 hotels in the country, a piece of news that was reproduced in the Mexican renowned newspaper El Financiero.

At the closing of this issue, we received a Gold Magellan Award in the category of Pool Design, and two Silver Awards in the category of Beach Resort/Hotel and Family Resort/Hotel. We also were informed that the El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Casitas Royale, Azul Sensatori and Azul Beach met 90% of the criteria of this year’s Green Globe audit, while El Dorado Seaside achieved a 92%, el Dorado Maroma 89%, and Azul Fives 86% fulfillment.

In a celebration spirit, we receive these recognitions from our guests and international organizations to the huge effort we’ve invested; it is a great incentive towards new achievements. There is no doubt that effort leads to fast growth, while maintaining high quality standards.

Congratulations to all of you !

JElly tour C H U M P Ó n

For more than 4 years, Karisma Hotels & Resorts, as a leader in the tourism industry in the Mayan Riviera, has supported the uluh’umil Beh (Earth of the Path) Cooperative, consisting of 8 entrepreneur women

in the municipality of Chumpón, Quintana Roo; with the purchase and promotion of their pitahaya and papaya jellies among our guests and collaborators.

When the jelly production project was taking its first commercialization steps, Karisma Hotels & Resorts helped them take their first step by committing to include their pitahaya and papaya jellies, produced by these Mayan women, in its breakfast menus and to promote their direct sales among guests and collaborators.

Thanks to this commercial relationship, the uluh’umil Beh Cooperative has, in the last 4 years, obtained a consistent income for the support of their families, carrying out an activity that allows them to remain in their community, preserve their traditions, and offer us a unique, excellent quality product, which is today an essential ingredient at breakfast in our hotels.

In the last edition of the Green Expo Riviera Maya in May 2013, our company made a commitment to work together with these businesswomen to begin the creation of the Jelly Tour, a touristic activity that will supplement their handmade jellies activity, enable them to diversify their source of income, and promote their lifestyle and products among tourists of Quintana Roo.

On August 23, we ran a pilot test of the Jelly Tour, with the participation of 12 people of the Karisma Corporation, together with personnel from various departments from each of our properties, who had an opportunity to visit the village of Chumpón, the pitahaya and papaya fields of the community, and the jellies production process, guided by the members of the cooperative themselves, who, at the end of the tour, offered everyone a sample of traditional dishes crowned by their delicious jellies.

Those who participated in the visit made a commitment to promote this project among our co-workers and families; in the coming months, more visits will be scheduled so that the Jelly Tour may become a reality and a development tool for the community that, for 4 years, has been a part of our Karisma family.

On August 15, Karisma Hotels & Resorts achieved a wow! moment among our little guests at Generations Riviera Maya, by Karisma.

Alexander Weiss, winner of the first season of Master Chef Juniors accompanied us for a cocktail in the pool area for the launching of the Little Eko Chefs program. The presentation was attended by children and their families, who enjoyed non-alcoholic beverages and bites in the unique style of Karisma Gourmet Inclusive® Experience. Afterwards, the little ones relished a music and dance show filled with surprises, performed by the Entertainment Department and the Eko Kids Club staff, finishing with a photographic moment of guests with Alexander.

On Saturday morning, the press was invited to the Hall of Generations Riviera Maya, with a spectacular set up for the tasting of the dishes that make up the Little Eko Chefs program, after which Alexander delighted guests with the preparation of a delicious tuna dish.

Sunday evening our little guests attended a cooking class with Alexander, who taught them how to bake cookies, finishing the evening with a beach-side BBQ and a DJ-Led Foam Party for the little ones and their families.

Jeroen Hanlo, Vice president of Food and Beverages at Karisma Hotels & Resorts commented that this program is a unique experience for the children, as it enables them to dive into the food of other cultures, learn easy and delicious recipes, and to develop useful cooking skills for the future.

This amazing culinary program, which is part of the Gourmet Inclusive® Experience, is available since August 18 for children aged 4 to 12. It offers ten different classes, one per day, from 4 to 5 in the evening, at the kitchen of the Kids Club in Generations Riviera Maya.

20 From Jamaica

“Paradise” is what visitors from around the

world are calling Azul Sensatori Jamaica

on TripAdvisor reviews with a rating of 90%

and ranked # 16 of 91 hotels in negril to

date. This rating, which has improved day after day, is quite

impressive considering the resort opened just a few months

ago. Led by Mario Chávez, General Manager, the team works

assiduously to achieve strategic objectives of total guest

satisfaction, maintaining the property to the highest standard,

staff satisfaction, revenue generation and all within a cost

effective manner. Azul Sensatori Jamaica, by Karisma, has

already become the best hotel in the island!

From the guests’ arrival, we offer a great experience, with brilliant smiles from obrien Cameron, the receptionist greeting you at the airport and completing the check in process in the bus along the way to the resort.

Our guests enjoy a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just to mention a few, there is the Beach Bar-B-Q in Garfield’s Beach House restaurant. This restaurant is named after Dr. Garfield Munroe, previous owner of the property. The Jerk pan begins a flame that caramelize tender chicken meat and a delicious pork leg marinated overnight, releasing into the air an inviting aroma, the perfect beach atmosphere with the signature service of the Gourmet Inclusive® Experience that makes any passerby want to reserve their next vacations with AZSJ. On the

evening, that same site reveals breathtaking sunsets with an open bar providing perfect relaxing breakdown to an exciting day filled with activities scheduled and coordinated by our Entertainment team.

Celebrating Jamaica’s independenceFrom August 1 to 6, 2014, Jamaica celebrated Emancipation

Week, where we acknowledge the abolition of slavery and

independence form the British Colonial leadership. This

was a week of festivities and celebrations in negril, and

Azul Sensatori Jamaica was not the exception, displaying

the colors and heritage of Jamaica in the form of food and

entertainment. Our guests were ecstatic about the delicious

food displays and the Reggae Jamboree show that lasted well

into the night.

our aZsJ Peopleomar, Fiona, Kevan, prince, Carlos, paula, Shelly Ann; these

are the most frequently mentioned names in our guests’

comments, and they are only a few of the collaborators that

make things happen every day.

And if that is not enough to ensure that any guest will reach

“satori” (the “wow” moment in our Sensatori guests’ vacation)

then Vassa Spa comes to the rescue, with fifteen people

ready to pamper and reactivate your senses. It offers nine treatment rooms, a beauty salon, a hydrotherapy area, a steam and sauna rooms for men and for women, and

personalized couple´s therapy. If an indoor massage is not

your cup of tea, we boast a private and discreet sky massage

overlooking the Caribbean Ocean.

Beach cleaningPartnering with nicky Hayden TUI Representative the

management and staff formed a beach cleanup crew in July

2014. We walked along the 7 Mile Beach picking up garbage,

plastic, and dried leaves, which pose a risk for the environment

and deplete the beauty of the beach. Just a little effort to

make a difference and show the positive impact that Karisma

has in the whole region.

Happy collaborators, happy guests

Staff satisfaction is one of our priorities, since happy personnel

equals happy guests. The winners of The Best of the Best

awards for the months of May and June received their awards

and we also celebrated collaborators’ birthdays in those

months. The team adheres to the Karisma philosophy, being

loyal to the company and practicing a positive attitude. In the

soothing signature greeting of Vassa Spa which is a spiritual

AAA 4 Diamond AwardsThree of our properties obtained for the first time the coveted 4 Diamonds Award certification of the AAA (American Automobile Association):• Generations Riviera Maya, was certified just a few months after opening, which represents an unprecedented achievement, since this recognition is not usually granted to hotels in their first year of operations.• El Dorado Casitas Royale was evaluated independently of El Dorado Royale for the first time, achieving its own certification.• El Dorado Seaside Suites worked hard for 3 years to achieve this recognition, and finally all that effort paid off. On the other hand, El Dorado Royale and Azul Sensatori Mexico, succeeded in renewing this distinction, maintaining their high quality standards and exceptional service.

“My life in Karisma started at the beginnings of 2007. Before I came to Karisma, several health issues my wife went through and the little experience of medical institutions in Cancun resulted in in the death of my two children in 2003 and 2005 – one only 48 hours after being born and the second two weeks after birth. When I became IT Manager at El Dorado Royale, I found a young company with a great attitude and many short- and long-term plans. Caught in so many good wishes, optimism, discipline, hope and faith all around me at work and in my personal life, following instructions of the specialists from a Clinic in Merida, I began working on the adventure of having a child for the third time, as if it were a 6 Sigma project. In Karisma I learned how to plan and foresee the dates of visits to the doctors, creating a budget that would allow me to cover upcoming expenses, and to consider all possible courses of action should things not go well, having at all times, the support of our company, and particularly of the Information Technologies Vice President, Mr. Predrag Krstajic.

“The Project” as Mr. Krstajic and I called it, was completed on October 23, 2008 in Merida, yucatán with the birth of, not 1 but my two “twins”, David and Carlos, making a highly expected and desired personal goal, a reality.Coming back to Cancun with a whole family, I was greeted with the news that I had been promoted to IT Training and Support Manager at the corporate offices, collaborating as well in the opening of the El Dorado Maroma, Azul Sensatori, and Azul Fives hotels. I was trusted with one of the critical services for the “PMS” Operations, as well as with the SPA Management solutions, fully implemented in English. I received an opportunity to collaborate in the opening of properties abroad: Sensatori Jamaica in Jamaica, Allure Hotels in Colombia, Kalamota Island Resort, Zivogosce nimfa, Punta and Dole in Croatia. The best things in the Karisma Mission, Philosophy and Values has been to have a chance to live them in my own life… In my opinion, that’s how you live a Life with Karisma”.

EVa JuÁrEZ VÉlEZ“It all started 6 years ago in a trip organized by the University, when we visited Cancun and I decided to go for my professional internship here. I started in 2008 and never hesitated to ask for the Kitchen. My mother was surprised, saying: “The kitchen! But you studied Business Administration!” The truth is that had always been my dream, to work side by side with professionals in Gastronomy, and what better opportunity than to do that alongside the Chefs, and even better with the Gourmet Inclusive Experience concept. It was then that I set out on this adventure; I met a lot of people, was or nearly every restaurant here, learned a lot, and was very happy… Then I got to thinking: “My degree is in Administration”, and so I approached Food and Beverages and was taken on as a Hostess. The day I started, I met the Executive Chef (then, Chef Rainer). I told him that I would be a intern in the mornings at F&B – Service, and at the Kitchen in the evenings. He said, “no! I got a better idea – Costs!” For two years I was an intern from 8 am to 11 pm. Working at the Costs departments in the morning, and at Restaurants in the evenings, fulfilling the operative portion in the Kitchen. It

was tough, exhausting, but very satisfying, proud of my work. I felt the adrenaline involved in the operations. I was learning a lot from the best!I went back home with a job offer, which I turned down at that time. But I was called two months later and offered me the position of Assistant to the Executive Chef. I worked with wonderful chefs who left their mark in my professional and personal life (Christian Monchatre, Demory Pascal and Pierre Mourez); tough chefs who accepted no errors, gave themselves passionately, and a little crazily, to their task. I’ll never forget the words: “The kitchen is the heart of the hotel; it’s like a soccer match – Being the Chef, I am the ball and my people lead me, I respond for their work, and they back me up. They are the important ones”.I had an opportunity when I was promoted to the Quality department. I’ve been learning and growing for two years, and I know I won’t stop there. El Dorado Royale is a noble hotel that allows you to grow if you make the effort and work with diligence, no matter how tough it may be; it will always be our home; we will always feel the passion, and will continue to live a Life with Karisma”.

DaniEla CHantal VallEJo“One day, at the University, some Chefs presented a talk about their restaurant. I used had a job, so I wasn’t interested. The next day, I was told I had been selected as an Intern; one of my friends had written my name on a list. I was supposed to show up at the Azul Sensatori Hotel. I spent all day finding out everything I could about “Le Chique”. With each link I clicked on, I became more and more thrilled. I was now motivated by nerves and some anxiety. Together with nash, Alejandro, Dani, Victor and Chef Jonatan, I learned how to dream, create, imagine, appreciate, and bring to reality, instead of just fulfilling someone’s need. Chef Jonatan put me in contact with the Executive Chef at Azul Beach, Luis Zaragoza. One question he asked, which I’ll never forget, was “What position should I fill

with you?” I replied, “I could say, Cook A, but I want to start at the bottom and work my way up in time”.After a week of bumbling, running, sweating, shouting, I thought I would not have my contract renewed; I might not last longer than two weeks. I determined to overcome my mistakes and move forward. In a short time, I was promoted; I was elated! After a year I was Cuisine Chef. I am grateful for the growth experienced with Zaragoza and Sous Chef Mariano Rodríguez. I have learned from each and every person I have worked with.I think the path I’ve traveled in the company has been amazing. There’s something III always keep in mind – never forgetting who we are, never forgetting where we came from. Sharing, teaching, improving, and giving our jobs a sense of belonging. Being responsible, persistent, dreaming, loving, there are no limits”.

WITHOUT LEAVInG HOME!

Dare to look radiant, renovated and youthful!

rEnoVatEyour skin

you’ve surely heard many times about exfoliation, the benefits it offers to your skin, and the convenience of integrating it into your daily beauty routine. Well, all of it is absolutely true.

Exfoliation drags the dead skin cells off the surface of our skin, in a kind of intensive “sweep” that helps our skin renovate its luminosity and terseness, and to attenuate the accumulation of impurities in our pores. Frequently, permanently integrating it into our beauty routine is difficult, and there may be doubts as to how to do it. If that’s the case, we want to help you with this simple guide, where you will learn the keys to exfoliation, so you may pamper your skin without leaving home. step 1: Prepare your natural exfoliator; mix your ingredients in a glass container, which you can use for four weeks.step 2: Apply and spread the mixture throughout your body. Once spread, delicately massage your skin, applying

the product with the tips of your fingers, and lightly in a soft, circular motion, going over the most problematic zones of our skin, like elbows and feet. step 3: Rinse the product off with warm water to eliminate dead cells permanently. Once rinsed, apply moisturizing cream.

With the motto “We are all Energy Guardians”, the third week of october we saw the launch of the Energy Savings Campaign.

Concern for the impact that the use of natural resources have on the environment, this campaign is intended to build awareness among collaborators about the responsible use

of electric power, natural gas, and water.

A single person can´t make all of the difference. nevertheless, by joining efforts, we can have a greater impact. It is very important that each one of us think of which habit we might develop in order to preserve the environment, and apply it both at work and at home, thus making our own small contribution; because “We are all Energy Guardians”.

The We Are Mexico Program allows us to know and sample the traditions, gastronomy, and culture of each of the beautiful states in our country. On these past months we were led in a journey through the northeastern and northwestern states, where we learned a little of the traditional costumes

of the states of Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, Querétaro, and Sinaloa.

ZaCatECasThe traditional costume for women consists of an “A” line red fabric skirt, in the lower portion of the skirt there is a white strip with beautiful hand-woven flowers. The blouse should be white adorned with French brocade. The traditional costume for men consists of black slacks, white shirt with

a high neck, woven at the height of the chest muscles, and frills on the cuffs. It is accompanied by a red, three-fourths length sleeve open jacket, adorned with buttons; the costume is complemented by a beautiful hat.

taMauliPasThe traditional costume for Tamaulipas is called “Cuera”; women wear three pieces: jacket, vest, and a suede skirt, adorned with fringes and

hand-woven embroidery. Men wear slacks and a jacket made in the same material as that of the women. The backs are adorned with the emblem of

the state of Tamaulipas.

QuErEtaroWomen wear a jacket in different styles, a shirt called “jareta or buche”, adorned with pleats and embroidered with flower motifs. The petticoat or skirt is made of wool, chintz, or “cambaya”, depending on the region. The underskirt, called “nagua” is worn below the skirt, or “enagua”, and it used to be made of plain fabric, all of which is finished with cowhide strapped “huaraches”, or sandals. The “Enredo” is a costume with pre-Hispanic origins, which is still used in the community of Santiago, Mexquititlán. The shawl, or rebozo, was and still is an indispensable garment, featured in the daily life of women in the municipalities.

sinaloaThe traditional costume used to celebrate traditional dances is made in plan fabric. Women display Amapa ornaments (a characteristic flower of the state’s mountain range), representing the art of ceramics in their dress. Men wear a palm leave hat made in the municipality of El Fuerte, worn by the remaining mayos, plus a shirt still worn by the workers, or “labradores”, along with a red bandana.
