Welcome back to term 4 at Kootingal Public School. This promises to be a jampacked term full of activities for students, staff and community.

We commence our term with our Bright Stars Transition program for children entering Kindergarten in 2020. This program operates over the first five weeks of the term. Mrs Lawrence, our Kindergarten teacher, is no doubt well prepared for these impending children and the children are just as eager.

Good luck to our Open Boys Softball team who will take on the might of the west in Wee Waa Public School in Narrabri next Tuesday 22nd October. Thank you to our P&C who have again supported the students by assisting the school to subsidise the cost of transportation for our children. The children have been training hard each Monday afternoon and we wish them all the best in their sporting endeavours next week.

This week our P&C conducted their first monthly meeting of the term. At this meeting the P&C again pledged further funding towards the purchase of class sets of texts for the primary classrooms in years 3 to 6. A total of $3000 was given towards this initiative. A further sum of just under $900 was given for the purchase of electric sharpeners for each primary classroom. Thank you to our P&C for their continued generous support of both the students and staff.

Kootingal Public School would like to welcome Miss Brooke Semmler to the teaching staff. Miss Semmler will be assisting me on the 3/4T class and working on a Mathematics intervention program. Miss Semmler completed her practicum at Kootingal Public School a couple of years ago with Mrs Purdy and it is lovely to see Miss Semmler back in a teaching capacity at Kootingal Public School.

Also on the teaching front, Mr Scott Cracknell gained interim approval with the Department of Education and is now assisting Kootingal Public School as a casual teacher when needed. While we will miss Mr Cracknell‘s presence as a School Learning and Support Officer we know our children will enjoy him just as much as a teacher.

This Friday our nominations for candidacy in the 2020 School Captain process for Year Five closes. I look forward to meeting with our potential candidates in the coming weeks. It is important to note that this is an election for School Captains and the Vice Captains only. The election of the Student Representative Council (SRC) members will occur in 2020.

Thank you to Peel High School who attended our school this week to speak with the children in Year Five regarding Selective High School applications and the associated process. It is always good to hear directly from a selective high school about the process and the benefits of the selective stream at Peel High School.

This week the focus for PBL is the expectations when using the handball wall and multipurpose sports court. These expectations are mostly underpinned by the core value Safe.

At Monday’s afternoon assembly, our students were well versed in the types of things that are not permitted in these areas. Our main focus for the week is about the sharing of these spaces and consideration for everyone. The lesson focuses on learning in a practical sense with classes moving to this area and participating in a variety of games.
