AFTER weeks in which no work could be car-ried out on thebattered causeway linkingPara-dise Beach and Aston Bay, Environmental Af-fairs has finally given permission for the See-koei River mouth to be opened.
Once opened, repair work on the causewaycan continue.“The contractor had to move off site because
thewater levelswere toohightowork.Environ-mental Affairs has since given permission forthe Seekoei River mouth to be opened so thatthe water level can drop,” said municipalspokesperson Laura-Leigh Randall.“This permission is, however, subject to cer-
tain conditions being met first. These include
the submission and approval of a detailedworkplan by the municipality, with input from thelocal Environmental Affairs office.“We cannot at this stage say how long this
processwill takeaswearenot theonlyroleplay-ers.Weare,however, intenton finalisingevery-thing as soon as possible.”Randall said that the causeway is still closed
to both drivers and pedestrians.“We’vereceivedreports thatmotoristsarere-
movingthebarriersandcrossingthecauseway.We urge them not to do this - it is not safe tocross.Anyonewhodefies the closure and cross-es the causeway, does so at own risk.”
.Theproject,whichwill seethestructuralre-pair of the causeway across the Seekoei RiveratacostofR2 011 500, is fundedfromthedisasterfund secured from the provincial government.

klagte in verbandmet die oortreding vanmu-nisipale bestuurswette.Landdros Louis Claassen het Woensdag in
die Baaise handelshof gesê die beskuldigdesmoet deeglik daarvanbewuswees dat langter-myngevangenisstraf nie uitgesluit is indienhulle skuldig bevind sou word nie.Die drie mans, met blinkleerskoene, het
ontspanne gelyk en grappies onder mekaargemaak terwyl hulle gewag het om om borg-tog aansoek te doen.Die advokaat vir die staat, Leigh-Anne Pil-

TWO major championship events willbe hosted by the Fish River Sun Hoteland Country Club this year in Augustand September respectively.
They are the SASKA East Coast Kara-te Open (SECKO) Championship, andthe combined World Union of Karate-doFederations (WUKF) Africa Invitation-al and SASKA National Champion-ships.
It is the seventh year that the FishRiver Sun will be hosting the SECKOKarate Championships, which drawskarateka from the entire region. The of-ficial event is run under the auspices ofthe South African Shotokan KarateAcademy (SASKA) and East Cape Sho-tokan-Ryu (ECSR).
The championship has grown to be-come one of the largest annual by invita-tion only all-style karate events in theEastern Cape, attracting more than 400competitors. The SECKO Champion-ship will take place on Saturday, August3.
Eastern Cape clubs from Queens-town, East London, Despatch, Uitenha-ge, Cradock, Somerset East, Port Alfred,and Kenton on Sea, Grahamstown, FortBeaufort, King Williamstown and PortElizabeth will be battling it out for tophonours in the SECKO Championships.
The World Union of Karate-do Federa-tions (WUKF) Africa Invitational andSASKA National Championships willbe held from Thursday, September 26 toSunday, September 29.
