By makayla Hawker and ella JohnsonAt the end of last year Mr. Wilson

left our school and we needed to find

    a new principal. Mrs. Martin

stepped up to be our principal until

we could find someone fantastic to

take her place. After a long, hard

search we finally found the fantastic

person that we were looking for. His

name is Simon Clarke. He came

    from Balmacewen Intermediate. He

is quite tall and slim. He is sporty.

He is handsome. By the way, Mr

Clarke told us to say those things!

    Mrs Martin enjoyed being our

principal. She was popular and did a

    great job.

They could head under Room 7sRoom on the Broom, through Room 12s Mucus Monster, towards Room8s Zog, over Room 11s Great Wall of China from Cleversticks, or upthe stairs towards Rapunzel in her tower and Room 4s Gentle Giant.Other highlights of the expo were Room 6s Dot and Ish, Room 10sArt and Max, Room 5s Dazzle the Dinosaur, Room 1s Lester andClyde and The Lorax, Room 9s Horton Hatches the Egg, Room 3sThe Quiltmakers Gift and The Quiltmakers Journey, Room 2asHighwayman, and Room 2s Rangi and Papa. The expo certainly had WOW factor with everyone entering the hallimpressed by the high standard of work. Adventure Masterswas lots of fun physical activities. There were six activities andeverybody was able to do them all. The activities were: archery, teambuilding activities, geocaching, escape and evasion, search and rescue, and abseiling. The children found Adventure Masters awesome becauseit was a new and exciting experience, and they learnt a lot of new

skills. On the second night they had sock wars and a cookout. For thecookout they cooked their own sausages and damper. On the third day, the year six children were split into two groups. One group went to McKerrows Pond to do sailing and kayaking whilethe other group visited the Moeraki lighthouse to see penguins andseals. TouchThis term some year three four five and

six are playing touch Rugby. Touch is avery common sport in the Summer.

Touch is played down at the Oval. There

are 6 touch teams there is 3 yr 5/6 teams

and 3 yr 3/4 teams. The touch teams

    have done well so far.

Touch is played with 6 players on the

field at a time .The team has to pass the

ball amongst its players and try to get a

try at the try line .

The other team has to defend the try line.

They have to stop a try being scored by

touching the team that has the ball. They

get 6 touches and the ball is then turned

    over to the other team.

Touch Rugby is played in term one and

    four.

Touch Rugby is so much fun if you

havent played it give it a go next year.

MiniballThere were two year 3/4 teams in

miniball for 2011. The names of the

teams were the Legends and the

    Demons. The Demon's season was

excellent with no loss. The Legendswon most of their games but lost some

too. The two teams practiced at 1:00 on

    Thursdays.

Mr Reid, teacher of Room 2a, was the

coach of the Legends. The team thought

that Mr Reid was a really good coach.

    William Edwards, Dylan Fisher, and

Henry Dickson were assistant coaches. The team really appreciated their hard

    work and training.

KiwisportsSome students from Otago Girls came

ant taught us some fun sports. We got to

do things like netball, cricket, and rippa

rugby. We had a great time playing lots

of different games and we learn't new

stuff. We got to have some serious fun.

At the end we played a real game of the

sport we had been learning about. It was

    really enjoyable and we really

appreciated Otago Hirls for teaching us

    these wonderful sports.

School SwimmingUsually twice a year the school goes to

swimming lessons. The Seniors go toMoana Pool and the Middles and Juniors

go to Dunedin North Intermediate. We

are pretty lucky to go swimming because

New Zealand has heaps of water around

it and kids need to learn how to swim so

they can stay safe. The Seniors have

been swimming two or three times a

week in the term 4 block. The Juniorsgo swimming for eight days in a row.

The seniors walk down to Moana Pool

and the Juniors take the bus to DNI.

    School swimming is fun.

    Dog Safety

    By Madison Room 9

Today we learnt about dog safety. Here are some

    ways to keep safe:

Stay still and cover your face if a dog runs

    up to you.

If you want to pat someones dog, ask if

    you can.

Curl up in a ball so a big dog doesnt trip

    you.

During maths and art, room 2used a monochromatic colourscheme (shades and tints ofone colour) to produce their

    cubist heads artwork inspired

by Pablo Picasso. In theseartworks geometric shapes

are reconstructed in amathematical way, using

    straight lines and right angles.

    On Tuesday the 1

    st

ofNovember we brought oursoft toys to school. They got

to sit at the back of the cornerarea. It was fun seeing

everybodys toy. Every toylooked like it was loved. We

brought them to school so wecould draw them. We used

pencils to sketch them. It wasquite hard to get our drawingsclose to what our toys looked

    like.By Room 11
