stepped forward to fill her shoes as Member-at-Large.

The only other difference you’ll notice on the ballot you will receive in the mail is that there will be no name listed

for President, as I’ve got the 7-year itch and no one has stepped forward to fill my shoes. Please write in your best

friend!

Mike’s Mammoth Weekend

Ski Trip ReportBy Mike Zullo [email protected]

Hi Skiers and Boarders, March conditions were good again and gave us three consecutive epic Mammoth

bluebird days with calm conditions and good snow throughout the mountain. Tan made corned beef and

cabbage and Catherine made soda bread to celebrate the Irish in all of our weekenders. New member

Barbara Lee suffered an upper arm fracture but will not need surgery. Hope she heals quickly. Roberto

bruised some ribs but was able to ski down the mountain.

There are still a couple of spots available for the final trip on April 11-14. Snow is still good and

temperatures are rising. Contact me if you would like to go.

Mike Zullo 562-685-3241 [email protected]

Unfortunately, our hike to Fish Canyon Falls, in Duarte, is cancelled. It was closed due to damage from the

2016 fires and recent heavy rains.

Week Trips with Mark Malan

Several snowboarders and Skiers hit the slopes on arrival and made multiple runs Sunday afternoon.

Monday was more sliding with juicy Sierra Cement in the afternoon. Heard reports of great powder in

the trees.

Monday Rose fractured her arm. Always with a good attitude she never got bummed out, even when

condo-bound. After Apre Ski meetup we went to visit Rose and experience Nia’s Maggies. Fun people.

Tuesday I had a rapid-moving Geriatric Collision. The 78 yr. old guy new nothing about the 15 foot rule,

or about staying with someone after you knock ‘em down. Eye looked bad for a while as the

goggles were pressed into the face. Without a helmet, I could be dead… man it hurt.

Wed had rain and electric storms and the lifts closed in the afternoon. At about 5pm the snow started

sticking vs. turning to water. Late at night it stopped. Many of the first-day contingency took in 3 or 4

freshies before boarding the bus, as the Blue Bird day was intoxicating. Cars had about 4” on their roofs

and the trees were heavily laden just like when we arrived.

Stay Tuned for August Ski Trip, Mark

Get Loose with Lance - Social

By Lance Liebl [email protected]

As I mentioned in my last article, March would not have a social activity because

the club skied Squaw Valley and Mammoth. I went to Mammoth with my friend Dave Lopez. The last time Dave

and I skied was two years ago in Canada, with the ski club. We were surprised, this past March, how well we skied.

Dave and I are the oldest active skiers in the club. This year I am skiing free and Dave will have the same status

next year. Dave said he will definitely go to Mammoth next year to take advantage of finally skiing free.

As you know, LBSC has a Saturday night dinner at the club condo. Mike Zullo, VP of Weekend Trips made the

evening special. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with corned beef and cabbage and boiled red potatoes.

Catherine made a traditional soda bread that complemented the dinner. Look for the group picture that Mike

takes with his cell phone camera on a tripod so that he run down the stairs to be in the picture.

On Saturday April 27th, we will be having a Game night party hosted by Rose Molina. Watch for a flyer with details.

I would appreciate it if members be diligent in sending me their RSVP for this event.

On Saturday, May 18th will be having our Annual banquet, where we introduce our old and new Board

Members. This will be at Malainey’s Grill, located in Long Beach. On Saturday June 15th, we will have wine tasting

along Naples Canal, in Gondolas. In July, we will have a barbecue at the home of Lisa and Brian Maloney. Date

to be determined. In August, we have our final barbecue at Casa Lopez, Dave Lopez home. Date to be determined.

As you see, this club offers a variety of events for club members. I encourage all members to bring their friends to

attend our events with the intention they join.

RACING WITH ERIC By Eric Hartman [email protected]

For those looking to improve their overall fitness, Lightning Velo

Bicycle Club is offering training for the Tour of Long Beach (May

11th). Sessions will be held Saturday’s at 7:30 until May 4. All rides will start at El Dorado Park Library on

Studebaker. The training will be centered around how to ride in a group, rules of the road, how to change

a flat, nutrition, and, of course, fitness. The rides will get progressively longer leading up to the event.

The Tour of Long Beach has three different rides 30 mile, 62 mile (metric century), and a 100 mile option.

Training will be tailored to the distance you are hoping to complete on May 11. Go to

touroflongbeach.com for details and to sign up.
